  • Selective Catalytic Reduction is effective in the reduction of NOx emission. This research focused to evaluate the performance of a urea-SCR system and was conducted in two procedures. One is SCR reactor test using model gas in order to provide an optimal injection condition itself. In this step, some parametric study on emission temperature, space velocity, aspect ratio and the formation of urea spray were made by using flow visualization and Computation Fluid Dynamics techniques. The basic simulation results contributed in determining the layout for an actual engine test. The other is an engine performance and emission test. The urea injector was placed at the opposite direction of exhaust gases emitted into an exhaust duct and an optimal amount of a reducing agent is estimated accurately under different engine loads and speeds. Furthermore, the variation of NOx emission and applied amount of urea was investigated in terms of modes under the condition of with and without SCR, and other emissions such as PM, CO and NMHC were evaluated quantitatively as well. This research may provide fundamental data for the practical use of urea-SCR in future.

  • Modeling of physically non-linear behavior becomes more and more important for the analysis of SFRC structures in practical applications. From this point of view we will present an effective, three-dimensional constitutive model for SFRC, that is also easy to implement in commercial finite element programs. Additionally, the finite element analysis should only require standard material parameters which can be gained easily from conventional experiments or which are specified in appropriate building codes. Another important point is attaining the material parameters from experimental data. The procedures to determine the material parameters proposed in appropriate codes seem to be only approximations and are unsuitable for precise structural analysis. Therefore a finite element analysis of the test itself is used to get the material parameters. This process is also denoted as inverse analysis. The efficiency of the proposed constitutive model is demonstrated on the basis of numerical examples and their comparison to experimental results. In the framework of material parameter identification the idea of a new, indirect tension testing procedure, the "Modified Tension Test", is adopted and extended to an easy-to-carry-out tension test for steel fiber reinforced concrete specimens.

  • The demands of high-strength steel have been steadily increased to reduce the weight of vehicles. Although the TRIP steel has been the promising candidate material for the purpose, high strength hinders the application due to the susceptibility to hydrogen delayed fracture in the corrosive environment. Moreover, the testing method was not specified in the ISO standards. In this work, the test method to evaluate the susceptibility of hydrogen delayed fracture was studied by slow strain rate testing technique. The four test experimental parameters were studied : strain rate, hydrogen charging time, holding time after hydrogen charging, and holding time after cadmium plating. The steel was fractured by hydrogen in case the strain rate was in the range of $1{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}5{\times}10^{-7}/sec$. It was confirmed that the slow strain rate test is effective method to evaluate the susceptibility to hydrogen delayed fracture. The holding time over 24 hrs after hydrogen charging, nullified the hydrogen effect, that is, the specimen was no more susceptible to hydrogen after 24 hrs even though the specimen was fully hydrogen-charged. Moreover, cadmium electroplating could not prevent from diffusing out the hydrogen from the steel in the experiment. The effective experimental procedures were discussed.

  • This study aims to measure the effects of real interest rate (RIR), gross domestic savings (GDS), and net exports (EN) shocks on Indonesia's economic growth (EG). The focus on Indonesia is unique due to the abundant resources available in the nation, but they are unsuccessful in boosting economic growth. This study applied a quantitative method to comprehensively analyze the correlation between variables by employing Vector Autoregression Model (VAR) combined with Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). Various procedures are preformed: Augmented Dickey-Fuller test (ADF), Optimum Lag Test, Johansen Cointegration Test, Granger Causality Test, as well as Impulse Response Function (IRF) and Error Variance Decomposition Analysis (FEVD). The data were collected from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank from 1986 to 2017. The findings of the study indicated that economic growth responded positively to real interest rate shocks, which implies that when the real interest rate experiences a shock (increase), the economy will be inclined to growth. While, economic growth responded negatively to gross domestic savings and net export shocks. Policymakers are expected to consider several matters, particularly the economic conditions at the time of formulating policy, so that the prediction effectiveness of a policy can be appropriately assessed.

  • Boiler high-temperature pipelines such as main steam pipe, header and steam drum in fossil power plants are degraded by creep damage due to severe operationg conditions which are high temperature and high pressure for an extended period time. Such material degradation leads to various component failures causing serious accidents at the plants. Conventional measurement techniques such as replica method, electric resistance method, and hardness test method have such disadvantages as complex preparation and measurement procedures, too many control parameters, and therefore, low practicality and they were applied only to component surfaces with good accessibility. In this paper, artificial creep degradation test and ultrasonic measurement for their creep degraded specimens have been carried out for the purpose of evaluation for creep damage which can occur in high-temperature pipeline of fossil power plant. Absolute measuring method of quantitative ultrasonic measurement for material degradation was established, and long term creep degradationtests using life prediction formula were carried out. As a result of ultrasonic tests for crept specimens, we confirmed that the sound velocity decreased and the attenuation coefficient linearly increased in proportion to the increase of creep fractiin(${\phi}$c).

  • This study describes a test method for evaluating the ice friction and abrasion performance of polar coatings. The evaluation methods of physical properties of general coatings for ocean-going vessels and polar coatings for ice-going vessels were investigated and their limitations were analyzed. We have also reviewed previous researches related to the development of polar paints and confirmed the necessity of developing test techniques. A flat steel plate was coated with several types of commercial coating, and cold model ice was used to cause ice friction and abrasion events between coated surface and ice. For evaluation of ice friction and abrasion performances, test procedures such as measurement of coating surface roughness, measurement of frictional force using model ice, implementation of ice abrasion and drying of coating surface were developed. The friction and abrasion characteristics of each coating are analyzed and summarized through the change of friction force and roughness data according to the progress of ice abrasion.

  • Outlier detection methods without performing a test often do not succeed in detecting multiple outliers because they are structurally vulnerable to a masking effect or a swamping effect. This paper considers testing procedures supplemented to a clustering-based method of identifying the group with a minority of the observations as outliers. One of general steps is performing a variety of t-test on individual outlier-candidates. This paper proposes a sequential procedure for searching for outliers by changing cutoff values on a cluster tree and performing a test on a set of outlier-candidates. The proposed method is illustrated and compared to existing methods by an example and Monte Carlo studies.

  • This study aims to investigate the bow thruster performance of the research vessel "NARA" by full-scale maneuvering trials. The thruster test method refers to ITTC's recommended procedures and guidelines. Turning tests with the bow thruster are performed at speed conditions of 0, 2, and 4 knots. The test results indicate that the Rate of Turn (ROT) increased when the ship is in a higher speed condition. Due to the position of the propeller and the housing of the bow thruster, there is difference in the efficiency of the bow thruster according to the turning direction. Zigzag tests with the bow thruster were conducted at speed conditions of 2 and 4 knots. At speeds above 4 knots, it seems difficult to change the course only with the bow thruster.
