Accurate block shape assessment is critical for ship manufacturing and a careful assessment of the shape of a fabricated block against the design shape is a core issue. However, in current fabrication practice, the shape of each block is evaluated manually using rigid body transformation. This manual evaluation process entirely depends on workers' experiences and knowledge and makes automation of block shape assessment difficult. In this paper we propose a computation method on the registration for shape assessment of a block during the fabrication process and for evaluation of its completion against the design shape. A conversion on matching method by adding DOF(degree of freedom) restriction is required to reach the goals. We test our method using a real block quality assessment data to demonstrate its applicability to real ship manufacturing process.

This study discusses data collection, calculation of wind and wave-induced resistance, and speed-power analysis of an 8,600 TEU container ship. Data acquisition system of the ship operator was improved to obtain the data necessary for the analysis, which was accomplished using SPA (Ship Performance Analysis, Park et al., 2019) in conformation with ISO15016:2015. From a previous operation profile of the container, the standard operating conditions of mean draft were 12.5 m and 13.6 m, which were defined with the mean stowage configuration of each condition. Model tests, including the load-variation test, were conducted to validate new ship performance and for the speed-power analysis. The major part of the added resistance of container ship is due to the wind. To check the reliability of wind-resistance calculation results, the resistance coefficients, added resistance, and speed-power analysis results using the Fujiwara regression formula (ISO15016:2015) and Computational fluid dynamics (Ryu et al., 2016; Jeon et al., 2017) analysis were compared. Wind speed and direction measured using an anemometer were used for wind-resistance calculation and the wave resistance was calculated using the wave-height and direction-data from weather information. Also, measured water temperature was used to calculate the increase in resistance owing to the deviation in water density. As a result, the SPA analysis using measured data and weather information was proved to be valid and able to identify the ship's resistance propulsion performance. Even with little difference in the air-resistance coefficient value, both methods provide sufficient accuracy for speed-power analysis. The differences were unnoticeable when the speed-power analysis results using each method were compared. Also, speed-power analysis results of the 8,600 TEU container ship in two draft conditions show acceptable trends when compared with the model test results and are also able to show power increase owing to hull fouling and aging. Thus, results of speed-power analysis of the existing 8,600 TEU container ship using the SPA program appropriately exhibit the characteristics of speed-power performance in deal conditions.

Recently, the fuel charge is accounted for very high in the navigation cost. Therefore Shipowner is tried to find method for reducing oil consumption. ERCS(Energy Reduced Cooling System) is one of the method. The ERCS algorithm operates to decrease a power consumption of main sea water cooling pump through inverter control. We have developed ERCS controller with algorithm. The ERCS controller consists of CPU board, Digital I/O board, A/D board, D/A board and LCD/SW board. We tested with dummy signal to confirm the algorithm working correctly and achieved the good results. Before soon we will test under real condition in the ship and expect to get the result as forecasted.

This paper considers the development of safety operation guideline for onboard A-Frame system used to operate heavy-work ROV using dynamic simulation. Onboard A-Frame is affected by ship's behavior and large inertia by the marine environment. For this reason, safety operation guidelines are required for the safety of workers who operate ship-mounted equipment. In order to develop a guideline, it is necessary to evaluate the safety loads through real sea experiment. However, simulation method is used instead since it is difficult to conduct experiments in sea. Therefore, a procedure for safety operation analysis based on dynamic simulation that can consider ship behavior and marine environment and a safety operation table were proposed in this study. And the construction of safety operation table and guide for safety operation using the applied load and safety factor analysis results were considered.

The Combat Computer Consoles installed in surface ships should endure harsh environment such as vibration from engine or propeller and shock from underwater explosion. Generally, commercial isolation mounts are selected and used for anti-vibration and anti-shock design. In this research, the environment of the Combat Computer Console was analyzed first. Selected proper mount was modeled and computer simulation was performed to emulate the environment test. The real environment test was conducted with a manufactured Combat Computer Console. The test results were same as the simulation and satisfied the performance requirements. The computer simulation proved to be a useful design tool to predict the performance before the final environment test.

A methodology of constructions a mathematical cost model for an activity constituting ship hull assembly process is proposed. The relationship between number of workers and processing time required for an activity can be formulated using an work study method, then manhours and shop floor area-hours required are calculated accordingly. The costs for unit manhour and unit shop floor area-hour respectively are calculated by distributing the overall annual cost of the company to the overall production resources consummed during the year. A general procedure of implementing the methodology has been demonstrated through a test on an exampled activity drawn from a real process.

In this study, the motion control techniques allied to the test ship NARAE are summarized and the results of sea trials are resented. NARAE adopted a hybrid hull form with lower hull and submerged foils. This type of ship has a substantial instability in heave, pitch and roll modes at the foil-borne stage due to little restoring force, so an active control is indispensable to keep the stability. 4-hydraulic actuators with servo valves were installed to drive foils, and several sensors were used to measure the motion of the ship. PID controller was adopted as a motion controller, and for the real-time control, Pentium-class industrial PC was used. Sea trials including take-off, landing, and banked turn maneuvering were carried out for a period of over 3 months and quite satisfactory results were obtained.

In this study, an experimental investigation has been made of the applicability of outer-layer vertical blades to real ship model. After first devised by Hutchins and Choi (2003), the outer-layer vertical blades demonstrated its effectiveness in reducing total drag of flat plate (Park et al., 2011) with maximum drag reduction of 9.6%. With a view to assessing the effect in the flow around a ship, the arrays of outer-layer vertical blades have been installed onto the side bottom and flat bottom of a 300k KVLCC model. A series of towing tank test has been carried out to investigate resistance (CTM) reduction efficiency and improvement of stern wake distribution with varying geometric parameters of the blades array. The installation of vertical blades led to the CTM reduction of 2.15~2.76% near the service speed. The nominal wake fraction was affected marginally by the blades array and the axial velocity distribution tended to be more uniform by the blades array.

The aim of study is to develop a dual driven ship berthing/deberthing system with $360^{\circ}$ steerability. A large ship used bow thruster, side thruster and pod propulsor etc. when approaching to a pier. But as marine leisure boats become large-scaled, the number of accidents is recently increasing what caused a ship to crash into a ship and a ship to crash into mooring facilities during berthing/deberthing on a marina. To solve the problem, the control responsiveness of a joystick connected with two motors and a propeller was checked and torque was increased by the electromagnetic design of magnetic gear. A sea trial test was carried out to investigate a performance of the developed system in the real sea.

It needed the calculation of the required tugboat's power to move the damaged vessel to the safe area for reducing the additional damages. In this paper, it was verified the theoretical calculation method on the required power of tugboat through the 93m real ship tests. From the experiments, it was considered that the theoretical calculation method was sufficient to estimate the required power of tugboat. The resistance of the locked propeller was relatively big portions compared with other static resistances such as air resistance, frictional resistance and residual resistance. And dynamic resistance induced by swing movement and yawing was continuously occurred and it also was great effects on the total resistance. In the future, the safety factor will be considered and the exact prediction of ship's resistance will enhance the efficiency of tugboat because of the minimization of safety factor.
