Development of Heat-treatment Furnace with Maximum Uniform Zone using Gas-phase Condensing Heat Exchange (기상응축 열교환을 이용한 고정밀 등온 가열로 개발)

  • A horizontal tube furnace with a wide uniform-temperature zone was developed using isothermal characteristics of a heat pipe. The heat pipe heating system consists of a concentric annular shaped stainless-steel container, sodium as a working fluid and a screen mesh wick structure. The performance test of the heat pipe revealed that temperature changes along seven consecutive positions of the heat pipe outer wall were less than${\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$, thereby ensuring the high isothermal property. The isothermal property of the heat pipe-adapted tube fumace was investigated and compared to a conventional non-heat pipe type tube furnace. The temperature distribution measurement showed that the uniform temperature zone, in which temperature change is less than${\pm}$1$^{\circ}$C, of the heat pipe employed tube furnace system was about three times longer compared to the conventional tube furnace system.

  • Currently, research on construction materials using industrial by-products is being conducted in the Inhan construction industry due to CO2 emissions during the cement production process and a shortage of aggregates. Among these, research has been conducted to use steel furnace slag as an aggregate by reducing the reactivity of free-CaO, which has the characteristic of expanding through open storage, aging, and rapid cooling. However, research on the use of powder as a cement admixture or substitute is insufficient. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the properties of fresh mortar using steel furnace slag powder. The mixing ratio of steel furnace slag powder was divided into three levels: 0, 20, and 40 (%), and the test items were flow and unit weight. The experimental results showed that as the mixing ratio of steel furnace slag powder increased, flow and unit weight tended to increase. Therefore, it is expected to have a positive effect on improving workability or strength as a cement admixture.

A Study on the Compact Regenerative Burner Development (compact 축열 버너 개발 연구)

  • For the compactness of regenerative combustion, self regenerative combustion and embedding regenerator inside furnace are proposed. The Self Regenerative burner system was developed to enhance thermal efficiency and Low Nox emission. In the twin regenerative system, two burner heads are generally used for preheating and exhausting combustion mode. But self regenerative burner system use only single nozzle body for regenerative combustion. Also two kind of regenerator, internal and external type, were designed to operate conveniently in both large and small furnace. According to test result, the self regenerative combustion system gives strong internal exhaust gas recirculation that reduce NOx emission significantly. NOx was measured as 50ppm(5% O2, 1290C furnace temperature). Also it is found that the fuel saving rate due to the self regenerative burner system reach to 30-40%. Thus it can be concluded that self regenerative mild combustion system appears to provide a reasonable regenerative burner for compactness and high performance as compared with conventional twin regenerative burner system. Also in the RT Application , compact twin regenerative burner was developed with the help of embedding regenerator inside furnace.

  • In recent years, the creation of waste recycling society has been required to cope with the traditional ways of waste treatments. In accordance with the package recycling law in force, calls for the developments of new waste treatment techniques suitable for 21st century are growing higher. A new ash melting furnace system named Eco Burner Ash Melting Furnace System has been developed. It is a burner type ash melting system in which the fluffs made of the plastics segregated from municipal solid wastes are directly fired at high temperature in the furnace. This system provides an economical ash melting system because plastic wastes or paper scraps that have heretofore been considered hard to recycle are used in compensation for fossil fuel. In this paper, we describe the ash melting test results obtained from a substantiative facility.

  • We have evaluated the toxicity of interior materials for the railway passenger car by checking the release of $CO_2$, CO, NOx, SO2, HCl, HF, HBr, HCN. The NOx is one of the most effective for the determination of Toxic Index R value. It is generally known that the mechanism of thermal NOx generation without the Interior Material nitrogen source. This study started from the idea to check the NOx difference according to the furnace temperature. But from the results, it was revealed that NOx is not so sensitive for the furnace temperature in case of solid burning. Other gases such as HCN, CO were more changeable to the furnace Temp. We reported the test result as for toxicity index r(x).

Rheological Properties of Cement Pastes Blended Finex-Slag Powder (파이넥스 슬래그 미분말을 혼합한 시멘트 페이스트의 유동특성)

  • In this study, rheological properties of cement pastes containing ground Finex-slag (4000, 6000, 7000 c$m^2$/g) were investigated bymini-flow test and coaxial cylinder viscometer. And also blast furnace slag(4000, 6000, 7000 c$m^2$/g) were used for comparison. According to the experimental results, Finex-slag and blast furnace slag showed very similar trend in the rheological properties of the cement pastes. The fluidity of cement pastes blended Finex-slag and blast furnace slag powder were improved by high replacement ratio. In the relationship of plastic viscosity and yield stress appeared the tendency of the proportion greatly. And in the relationship of plastic viscosity, yield stress and mini-flow appeared the tendency of the inverse proportion.

  • In this study, the optimum mix proportions of rain garden structure concrete were decided and the mechanical properties were evaluated. Experimental parameters were blast furnace slag, hwang-toh, recycled aggregates and natural jute fibers. The target compressive strength and chloride ion penetration were more than 24 MPa and less than 1000 coulombs, respectively. The response surface method was used for statistical optimization of experimental results. The optimal mixing ratios of the blast furnace slag, hwang-toh, recycled coarse aggregate and jute fiber volume fraction were determined 59.98 %, 8.74 %, 12.12 % and 0.2 %, respectively. The compressive strength, flexural strength and chloride ion penetration test results of optimum mix ratio showed that the 24.56 MPa, 3.88 MPa and 999.08 columbs, respectively.

Experimental study on combustion characteristics of oxy-fuel glass melting furnace (순산소를 이용한 유리 용해로의 연소특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The results of a series of experiments executed by using two pilot-scale oxy-fuel burners are presented. The oxy-fuel burners are designed for maximum capacity of 50,000kcal/hr, 200,000kcal/hr and installed in the test furnace. The effects of turn-down ratio, excess oxygen ratio, nozzle exit velocity, injection angle, and swirl vane angle on the combustion characteristic are investigated. Temperature distributions are measured using R-type and Molybdenum sheathed C-type thermocouple at various points of the flame. The results showed that maximum temperature and mean temperature increase with the increase of turn-down ratio and momentum. The maximum flame temperature was increased about 35% compared to the case of equivalent air operated condition. In addition, optimum burner type, excess oxygen ratio and nozzle characteristics are obtained for this oxy-fuel glass melting furnace.

Development of Reinforcement Grout Materials Using Blast Furnace Slag Powder and Aramid Fiber (고로슬래그 미분말과 아라미드 섬유를 이용한 보강그라우트재 개발)

  • The grouting method is utilized to reinforce and waterproof poor grounds, enhance the bearing capacity of structures damaged resulting from settlement due to elevation and vibration or differential settlement, and for cutoff. The purpose of this research is to enhance the compressive strength of grout materials by using aramid fiber and develop a high-strength ground improvement method by using blast furnace slag powder. In this regard, this study has conducted a uniaxial compression test after checking the high charge (higher than 50%) of the ratio of blast furnace slag powder and cement at 100:0, 70:30 and 40:60%, adding the aramid mixture based on 0, 0.5 and 1.0% of the cement and furnace slag powder weight and creating sand gels based on surface oiling rate of 0.7 and 1.2%. For the environmental review evaluation, a heavy metal exudation test and a pH test measurement have been conducted. The experiment results showed that 1% increase of aramid fiber led to 1.3 times greater uniaxial compression intensity. As for the hexavalent chrome, a 30% increase in blast furnace slag powder led to approximately 50% decrease in heavy metal exudation. However, the pH test revealed that a 30% increase in blast furnace slag powder resulted in approximately 0.5 increase in pH. Further research on the pH part is needed in the future.

Analysis of Possibilities of Rapid Appraisal of Blast Furnace Slag Cement Fineness Quality Using the Hydrometer Method (Hydrometer법을 이용한 고로슬래그 시멘트의 분말도 신속 품질 평가 가능성 분석)

  • Recently in the construction industry there has been an increasing use of increasing replacement of cement with blast furnace slag cement(BS), an industrial by-product, to reduce environment load and production costs, and other increasing uses of BS cement. However in the case of BS being delivered in RMC factories, only score reports submitted when the are delivered are relied upon and ways to test the quality of fineness is inadequate. Therefore this study gave many changes to various cements and BS fineness to test the variations of BS as a cement, then used the correlation between this and the density value in the Hydrometer method to test the possibility for rapid appraisal of quality fineness of BS cement. Results showed that if the one fifth graph of the density and fineness correlation were to be used, a rapid appraisal of BS cement fineness quality would be possible.
