  • Forest fires occur the world over, with large-scale fires constantly breaking out. A suppressant a type of forest fire chemical is widely used to respond to fires rapidly and effectively. In general, suppressants used for fires have been divided into dry powder, liquid, foam, and gel type, according to physical form and use. This study has conducted toxicity tests relating to phytotoxicity(Pinus densiflora seed germination rate and mortality of containerized seedling), and soil organism toxicity(earthworm acute toxicity tests), of these suppressants, with the loaded stream suppressant for direct forest fire extinguishing a Loaded Stream and foam concentrates generally being used in Korea. From the results of the tests, the loaded stream and the foam concentrate had an effect on the toxicity levels. In the case of the loaded stream type, it was observed that toxicity indicating a 100% lethality rate was found among all toxicity test methods. Therefore, it is determined that forest ecology environmental toxicity impact assessments related to the suppressant used to extinguish forest fires are necessary in the near future.

  • The aim of this study is that a theoretical formula for estimating the one-dimensional longitudinal dispersion coefficient is derived based on a transverse distribution equation for the depth averaged stream-wise velocity in open channel. In "Part I. Theoretical equation for stream-wise velocity" which is the former volume of this article, the velocity distribution equation is derived analytically based on the Shiono-Knight Method (SKM). And then incorporating the velocity distribution equation into a triple integral formula which was proposed by Fischer (1968), the one-dimensional longitudinal dispersion coefficient can be derived theoretically in "Part II. Longitudinal dispersion coefficient" which is the latter volume of this article. The proposed equations for the velocity distribution and the longitudinal dispersion coefficient are verified by using observed data set. As a result, the non-dimensional longitudinal dispersion coefficient is inversely proportional to square of the Manning's roughness coefficient and the non-dimensional transverse dispersion coefficient, and is directly proportional to square of the aspect ratio (channel width to depth).

  • The present study numerically investigated the effect of the advance ratio on the wake characteristics of the marine propeller in the propeller open water test. Therefore, a wide range of the advance ratio(0.2${\kappa}-{\omega}$SST Model are considered. The three-dimensional vortical structures of tip vortices are visualized by the swirl strength, resulting in fast decay of the tip vortices with increasing the advance ratio. Furthermore, to better understanding of the wake evolution, the contraction ratio of the slip stream for different advance ratios is extracted from the velocity fields. Consequently, the slip stream contraction ratio decreases with increasing the advance ratio and successively the difference of the slip stream contraction ratio between J=0.2 and J=0.8 is about 0.1R.

  • The application of high velocity air jets to heat transfer surface has tremendous engineering potential in various industries. The impinging jets are therefore widely used for their enhanced transport characteristics, especially for drying of continuous materials such as sheet, film, carpets, forming materials and pallets. This paper presents the drying characteristics of plate type material and performs the test with the change of operating conditions in conveyer band dryer using the impinging jet nozzles. The factors influencing drying rate were confirmed, also the design data of band dryer using the impinging jet was obtained.

  • A scalable satellite broadcasting system is designed to guarantee quality of multimedia service cooperatively utilizing both Ku Band and Ka band. In the system, video streams are separated into a base layer and an enhancement layer, and are transmitted over the two channels, Ku Band and Ka band, respectively. A basic quality of service using the base layer stream can be provided even when the enhancement layer stream over Ka band channel is unavailable by rain attenuation. A rain fall model is simulated using Barlett-Lewis Pulse model and is used in the operation test of the implemented sacalable satellite broadcasting system.

  • The main point source of pollution of the Keumho river in Taegu, Korea, stems from waste from the areas of industrial complexes . Although it is widely accepted that pollutants in waste water negatively effects general water quality, it is difficult to evaluate the effluent effect because of varying conditions in ambient water and inconclusive knowledge of causative pollutants. To analyze the water in relation to the industrial effluent in the area, pH. temperature, conductivity, and Microtox toxicity of various river samples were measured. Water samples were collected every 2 hours for 36 hours from Keumho river and Dalseo stream. Data from continuous monitoring for 36 hours showed that effluent in Keumho river originated from Dalseo stream, which is near adjacent to industrial complexes. Change in toxicity and other factors tested during the 36 hours indicated that continuous monitoring was necessary for a satisfactory effluent toxicity test Furthermore, in addition to water quality monitoring, it was concluded that sediment toxicity also needed to evaluate effluent effects.

  • We have studied the effect of head of the line blocking (HOLB) on session initiation protocol (SIP) session establishment delays. Our results are based on experiments performed in a test bed and on the public Internet. We used the stream control transmission protocol (SCTP) as a transport for SIP because SCTP can be configured to suffer or to avoid HOLB. Our experiments show that the effect of HOLB on session establishment delays generally starts to be significant starting at fairly low packet loss rates. However, there are scenarios where network conditions are good enough to make the effect of HOLB insignificant.

  • The side jet effects between jet flow and free-stream on a missile body were investigated by experimentally and numerically for modeling aerodynamic coefficients in pitch plane. K-factors for normal force and pitching moment were introduced to estimate the side jet effects. The main parameters of the jet interaction phenomena were angle of attack, jet pressure ratio, Mach number and jet bank angle. The K-factors for normal force coefficient and pitching moment coefficients in pitch plane were analysed.

  • In this paper, we describe the structure and the test results of a Bluetooth baseband module we have developed. The module has a distributed buffer, i.e. FIFO, for data stream. Bus interface of the module is designed on the basis of interface of microprocessor widely used and the external interface is designed to consider chips connected directly. Since the module performs as many hardware efficient tasks as possible, processing load of microprocessor is very small. It can also be controlled either by software or by hardware for flexibility. The fully synthesizable baseband module was fabricated in a $0.25\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology occupying $2.79\times2.8{\textrm{mm}^2}$ area. And an FPGA implementation of this module is tested for file and bit-stream transfers between PCs.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the acid producing potential of geological materials such as pit wall, waste rock and stream sediments near the abandoned Imgi mine. The 17 samples used in this study were collected and then treated by static test such as Acid Base Accounting and etc. Samples of pit wall and waste rocks with high S content display a NAGpH values below 4.5 and net acid potential. Therefore some cost effective measures such as capping and groudwater flow barriers, will be required to reduce the impacts of ARD from the waste rock impoundment and the pit wall on near the stream.
