  • Structural capacity of water channel fabricated of concrete including blast furnace slag were investigated in this paper. An experimental study was consisted of materials test and structural test of concrete water channel. The mechanical properties of concrete including blast furnace slag were investigated. Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) was used as basic binder and the effect of the replacement of blast furnace slag for OPC was investigated. Experiments were performed to measure mechanical properties including compressive strength, elastic modulus and modulus of rupture. Test results show that the compressive strengths and modulus of ruptures of mixtures containing blast furnace slag were equivalent to those of OPC concrete. In addition, the structural capacity of concrete water channel with up to the replacement ratio of blast furnace slag of 45% was greater than the required strength in KS specification.

  • Electric Arc Furnace Dust (EAF Dust) Is residual dust produced during the manufacturing of metal products from heavily heated electric arc furnace. Many researches have focused on recycling and reusing EAF Dust for industrial and construction purposes. However, most of these researches were aimed at obtaining useful heavy metal powders by treating toxic metallic materials in EAF Dust. Also, few researches dealt with using EAF Dust as admixture in concrete mixture (i.e., slag dust). In this study, EAF Dust is used as admixture in concrete mixture content considering economical feasibility and construction applicability. The concrete specimens mixed with EAF Dust is then tested in compression and tension to study its strength and ductility as well as its failure mechanism. The compression and tension (by split cylinder test) test results are compared to the results from the specimens without EAF Dust to understand the chemical stability and mechanical characteristic of concrete specimens with EAF Dust. For the experiment, 6 types of admixture added concrete were studied: ⑴Combination of EAF Dust and blast-furnace slag in 1 to 1 ratio, ⑵Combination of EAF Dust and blast-furnace slag in 1 to 2 ratio, ⑶EAF Dust only, ⑷blast-furnace slag only, ⑸fly ash only, and ⑹no admixture. The experimental results show that the strength of EAF Dust added specimen has lower early age strength but higher 28 day strength when compared to other specimens. Also, the Elastic Modulus of EAF Dust is higher(28 days) than other specimens. The study results prove that EAF Dust can be used as an effective admixture in concrete for specific usages.

  • In this study, We have investigated leaching characteristics of heavy metals for recycled plastic composites containing EAF(Electric Arc Furnace) dust & EAF slag. EAF dust & EAF slag used that is generated in the 3 steel-making compaines in domestic. The physical and chemical properties of EAF dust & slag was examined by measuring specific surface area. porosity, oil absorption test and chemical wetting analysis etc. Results of total analysis indicated that EAF dust, slag contained significant amount of hazardous metals such as Cu, Pb, Cd and Cr. But, In the leaching test of the recycled plastic composites containing EAF dust, slag by Korean Standard Leaching Procedure, composites shows much lower leaching concentration of heavy metals. It was concluded that the recycled plastic composites containing EAF dust, slag showed good physical and chemical characteristics. This means that the EAF dust, slag can be effectively used as a functional filler.

  • The aim of this study is to evaluate the applicability of Granulated Blast Furnace Slag to the development of the Powdered Ready-mixed Shotcrete. First of all, after accomplishing SEM analysis and Leaching Test, the laboratory and field experiments for evaluating the utility of Granulated Blast Furnace Slag were performed. As a result of SEM and Leaching test, the environmental stability was confirmed. That is, non-detection of harmful lists and dense shotcrete structure result from mixing Granulated Blast Furnace Slag. As a result of lab. and field test, Blast Furnace Slag is superior to Plain Batch in improving strength and durability. And it will be able to improve to some extent the problem caused by the delayed reaction of existing Granulated Blast Furnace Slag with alkali activated material. Also the proper amount of Granulated Blast Furnace Slag is estimated to be under 30%. Finally, it is possible that Granulated Blast Furnace Slag can apply to economical recycling and development of the Ready-mixed Shotcrete for its price is only about 5% of Silica-finne's price.

  • Concrete with ground granulated blast-furnace slag can be affected by frost attack because the reaction of hydration is slow at the early age. In this study, therefore, the freezing and thawing test has been carried out to investigate the freezing and thawing resistance on concrete with ground granulated blast-furnace slag. The freezing and thawing test has been performed on concrete a blended cement, which was substituted by ground granulated blast-furnace slag with 4 kinds of ratio (non-admixture, 20%, 40% and 60%). And also tested on concrete added the AE agents to the concrete of same mix proportion to search the improvement effects about the resistance. As a result, the freezing and thawing resistance showed a tendency of reduction in proportion to the increase of the substitution ratio. For non-AE concrete, resistances of the freezing and thawing were very poor as the durability index indicated less than 5.8%. For AE concrte, resistance of the freezing and thawing were excellent as the durability index indicated more than 80.9%.

  • Electric arc furnace steelmaking dust has various physicochemical properties as volatile components generated in the melting process of steel scraps in an electric arc furnace, which is captured in oxide form as fine powder by reacting with oxygen in the air. In order to efficiently recycle these electric arc furnace dust, a kinetic basic experiment and a pilot production test were carried out in parallel. As a result, it was found that the electric arc furnace dust contain a large amount of Cl and alkali components, thus it was expected that the compounds have a great adverse effect on the actual operation for the recycling. It was confirmed that the volatilization behavior was progressing actively at $1100^{\circ}C$ and the electric arc furnace dust was melted at $1250^{\circ}C$. These results are the same as a result of pilot test for the formation behavior of zinc oxide and reduced iron. These results should be useful as basic data for designing the recycling plant of the electric arc furnace dust and establishing the operating conditions.

  • This study is performed to evaluate the flexural performance of reinforced concrete columns with electric arc furnace oxidizing slag aggregates. Electric arc furnace slag is a by-product obtained from the process of refining scrap steel. The electric arc furnace slag can be used as a concrete aggregate, because it mainly consists of CaO and $SiO_2$, similar to natural rocks and minerals. Three rectangular columns with various types of aggregate were cast to test in flexure. All of the test specimens had a cross-section of $250{\times}250$mm and a height of 1,500 mm in test region. The specimens were designed to apply reversed cyclic antisymmetric moment and constant axial force. The experimental results showed that the specimens with electronic arc furnace oxidizing slag aggregates had superior flexural performance than the specimen with natural aggregates.

  • This paper presents an algorithmic type computing technique of process coefficient in predicting model of temperature for reheating furnace and also suggests a design method of neural network model to find an adequate value of process coefficient for arbitrary operating conditions including test conditons. The proposed neural network use furnace temperature, line speed and slab information as input variables, and process coefficient is output variable. Reasonable process coefficients can be obtained by an algorithmic procedure proposed in this paper using process data gathered at test conditons. Also, neural network model output equal process coefficient under same input conditions. This means that adquate process coefficients can be found by only computing neural network model without additive test even if operating conditions vary.
