Analysis of Life-Cycle Cost for Urban Transit System using RAM (RAM을 고려한 도시철도시스템의 수명주기비용 분석)

  • This paper is concerned with the life-cycle cost(LCC) of the urban transit system which was developed by KRRI and is now under test in Gyeongsan, Korea. Its reliability, availability and maintainability(RAM) were analyzed. LCC is the core part of analyzing the total cost of acquisition and ownership of a system. LCC analysis of a system is the most effective when it is applied in the it's early design phase. In this paper, we present IEC 60300-3-3(Life Cycle Costing) in detail and propose how to apply LCC in assessing the urban transit system according to RAM process. This case study demonstrates that reliability management system is very effective in reducing the operating cost of subway corporations in Korea.

  • As a competition is introduced in the electricity supply industry, a congestion problem arises in the transmission network. The congestion causes the transmission cost to increase. One way to decrease the congestion cost is to control the transmission flow through the installation of FACTS(Flexible AC Transmission system). This paper deals with the optimal site of the FACTS for reducing the congestion cost using a shadow price which is one of the economic signals for the systems. Test results show that the site of the FACTS(UPFC) is optimal to minimize the congestion cost by the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper applied Elite-based Simplex-GA hybrid approach combined with Muptipop-GA (ESGA) to determining the location, size and number of capacitors to improve voltage profile and minimize power losses in unbalanced distribution systems. One of the main obstacles in applying GA to complex problems has been the high computational cost due to their slow convergence rate. To alleviate this difficulty, ESGA approach was developed that combines Elite-based Simplex-GA hybrid approach with Muptipop-GA. The objective function formulated consists of two terms: cost for energy losses and cost related to capacitor purchase and capacitor installation. The cost function associated with capacitor placement is considered as a step function due to banks of standard discrete capacities. Its efficiency was proved through the application in IEEE 13 bus and 34 bus test systems and was compared with several methods using GA.

  • Korea has been faced a difficult situation with regard to the cost of physical distribution(PD). The problem have arisen from the fact that Korean firms have far different cost structures of the PD according to its industry or business. High PD costs sometimes reduce firms' operating income and perceived competitive disadvantages not only in domestic but in world-wide business. In this research, we examine the factors affecting firm's PD cost by investigating financial and non-financial variables such as variable cost to sales ratio and number of employee of a firm. Analyses are performed to construct research models with t-test and the logistic regression estimation.

A development of map building sensor system for mobile robot using low cost photo sensor

  • Mobile robot has various sensors for describing the external world. The ultrasonic sensor widely applied to the most mobile robot to detect the obstacle and environment owing to low cost, its easy to use. However, ultrasonic sensor has major problems: the uncertainty information of sensor, false readings caused by specular reflection, multi path effect, low angular resolution and sensitivity to changes in temperature and humidity. This paper describes a sensor system for map building of mobile robot. It was made of low cost PSD (Position Sensitive Detector) sensor array and high speed RISC MPU. PSD sensor is cost effective and light weighting but its output signal has many noises. We propose heuristic S/W filter to effectively remove these noises. The developed map building sensor system was equipped on a mobile robot and was compared with ultrasonic sensor through field test.

  • The purpose of this article was to understand the individual proportion of quality costs which have been expended by manufacturing industries in Seoul and Kyunggido district. The collected data on 72 firms could be use for an empirical analysis and the ratio test was implementented with the questionnaires. The finding were as following : by conparison with the proportion of quality cost in typical manufacturing industrial of U.S., We concluded that total quality cost was occupied with a small portion of sale. Also as compared with the individual item of quality cost, it was noted that the proportion of prevention cost had increased in a relatively large company.

  • In this study, the theoretical methodology is presented for estimating cost function based on operating modes for Combined Cycle Power Plant. The proposed method has estimated cost functions using the relationship between the gas turbine heat input and the output ratio of the steam turbine. In order to verify the proposed method, a regression analysis was performed using the single cost function estimated by the existing performance test method and the cost function for each operating mode estimated by the proposed method. The results of case studies using the 2016 generator input and output data are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper describes a probabilistic annual congestion cost assessment of a grid at a composite power system derived from a model. This probabilistic congestion cost assessment simulation model includes capacity limitation and uncertainties of the generators and transmission lines. In this paper, the proposed probabilistic congestion cost assessment model is focused on an annualized simulation methodology for solving long-term grid expansion planning issues. It emphasizes the questions of "how should the uncertainties of system elements (generators, lines and transformers, etc.) be considered for annual congestion cost assessment from the macro economic view point"? This simulation methodology comes essentially from a probabilistic production cost simulation model of composite power systems. This type of model comes from a nodal equivalent load duration curve based on a new effective load model at load points. The characteristics and effectiveness of this new simulation model are illustrated by several case studies of a test system.

A Cost-Utility Analysis of Home Care Services by using the QALY (QALY를 이용한 가정간호서비스의 비용효용분석)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze economical efficiency of home care service by comparing a cost-utility ratio(CUR) between home care and hospitalization. Method: The analytic framework of this study was constructed in 5 stages: Identifying the analytic perspectives, measurement of costs, measurement of utility, analysis of CUR, and sensitivity test. Data was collected by reviewing medical records, home care service records, medical fee claims, and other related research. Result: The mean of the annual total cost was 23,317,636 Won in home care and 73,739,352 Won in hospital care. QALY was 0.389 in home care and 0.474 in hospital care, so CUR was 299,712,545 QALY in home care and 777,841,266 QALY in hospital care. Conclusion: The findings affirmed that home care had an economical efficiency in the aspect of utility compared to hospitalization. Therefore, the findings of this study can be used to develop a governmental health policy or to expand the home care system. In addition, the cost-utility analysis framework and process of this study will be an example model for cost-utility analysis in nursing research. Therefore, it will be used as a guideline for future research related to cost-utility analysis in nursing.
