Broadband planar dipole with a t-shaped slit for digital TV Reception (t형 슬릿을 갖는 디지털 TV 수신용 광대역 평면 다이폴)

  • In this paper, a design method for a broadband planar dipole antenna for the terrestrial digital television (DTV) reception is studied. The proposed antenna is an asymmetrical planar dipole consists of a rectangular patch with an embedded t-shaped slit, and the antenna shape is printed on a side of an FR4 substrate. The effects of geometrical parameters on the antenna performance are examined, and the parameters are adjusted to operate in the DTV frequency band of 470-806 MHz. The prototype antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a size of $260mm{\times}30mm$. The performance of the antenna is tested experimentally to verify the results of this study.

  • This paper attempts to conceptually examine the potential of IPTV(Internet Protocol Television). First, this paper reviews the concept of a bridging telecommunication service and a gap-filling telecommunications service. Second, the current status of various emerging telecommunications services including mobile WiMax, called WiBro, and both satellite and terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting service, called DMB are comprehensively analyzed. Based on those analysis, this paper analyzes whether IPTV is regared as a bridging telecommunications service or a gap-filling telecommunications service and examine the potential growth possibility of IPTV. Finally, the suggestions for policy makers are discussed.

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) has meanwhile become part of several telecommunicati ons standards, such as satellite and terrestrial digital audio broadcasting(DAB), digital terrestrial TV broad casting(DVB), asymmetric digital subscriber line(ADSL) for high-bit-rate digital subscriber services on twisted-pair channels, and broadband indoor wireless systems. In his paper, we show that OFDM signals contain sufficient structure to accomplish blind channel estimation using second order statistics only. This method doesn't require redundancy as cp in transmitter. And the result is compared with PSAM channel estimation as least square, linear minimum mean square, singular value decomposition.

  • Recently, HD transmission was commonplace in the case of the terrestrial broadcasting, furthermore, 4k UHD broadcasts are also being pilot and such as HD contents are common even in smart-phones. Like this, through both the content and audience are in the situation to take advantage of the HD mobile TV, only QVGA video contents are being transmitted in the terrestrial DMB broadcasting. In this paper, introduction plan of HD DMB service for activation of DMB industry will be described in terms of technical, institutional, and policy to overcome the limitations of such as DMB broadcasting. Due to the introduction of HD DMB, high quality contents will be provided to audience and the advertising revenue DMB broadcasters increased so that the market share of DMB in mobile broadcasting be recovered.

  • With the start of terrestrial digital broadcast, we can view HD digital contents in TV. Also we can record, play, redistribute digital contents over the various way. Therefore the protection of Digital Contents Right became the important issue. In this paper, we implement a manager that prevents indiscriminate digital contents redistribution of the terrestrial digital broadcast contents. For protection of Digital contents Right, we use BF(Broadcast Flag) that we can control viewing or copy digital contents with.

  • In this paper, we describe a 1/4 rate robust modulation algorithm for Enhanced-xVSB system which is fully backward compatible with ATSC 8-VSB standard. Laboratory test results of proposed Enhanced-xVSB 1/4 rate mode is shown a significantly improved reception performance under multipath as well as AWGN channel. We suggest an Enhanced-xVSB terrestrial broadcasting system for in-band Pedestrian/Portable TV broadcasting service.

  • This paper analyzes the demand characteristics of DMB services using survey data. According to a Logit analysis, the willingness to adopt the services is higher if the would-be user is male, is better informed with the service, is watching TV longer, and is spending more for the telecommunications services. And the survey results tell us that for the stimulation of the service, efforts should be made to increase the level of public awareness of the services. The survey response from the would-be DMB users shows that the respondents who value the nationwide coverage and the numbers of channel are more inclined to use the satellite DMB service. On the other hand, the service charge and the availability of the terrestrial broadcasting channel for the time being does not seem to influence the intention of using the terrestrial DMB service. It could be interpreted that the potential user are deciding whether to use the service more by the quality and contents of the service rather than by the cost of the service.

Audio Transcoding for Audio Streams from a T-DTV Broadcasting Station to a T-DMB Receiver

  • We propose an efficient audio transcoding algorithm that can convert audio streams from terrestrial digital television broadcasting service stations to those for terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting hand-held receivers. The proposed algorithm avoids the complicated psychoacoustic analysis by calculating the scalefactors of the bit-sliced arithmetic coding encoder directly from the signal-to-noise ratio parameters of the AC-3 decoder. The bit-allocation process is also simplified by cascading the nested distortion control loop. Through subjective evaluation, it is shown that the proposed algorithm provides comparable audio quality to tandem coding but it requires much smaller complexity.

  • This paper describes theories and implementation techniques of a digital high-definition television(HDTV) modem based on 32-QAM for terrestrial broadcasting. We proposed a digital demodulation scheme and a symbol timing recovery structure based on the band edge component maximization(BECM) method. The adaptive equalizer has 256 complex taps to remove the multipath of delays ranging from -2.mu.s~+24.mu.s with a new T/2-spaced blind equalization algorithm. computer simulation results reveal that the proposed algorithm outperforms other conventional blind equalization algorithm a digital HDTV modem with 4.91MHz symobol rate is implemented by utilizing the proposed algorithms. All processings for modem operations such as demodulation, estimation of symbol timing phase error, adaptive equalization, and carrier recovery except IF signal processing and sampling phase control part of the AD converter are done in digital domain. Especially, the carrier recovery loop can track a carrier offset of upto .+-.350KHz.

  • The Korean domestic media environment is seeing a rapid and dynamic change. Consumer media behavior is shifting from TV to smartphones, and from traditional media, such as terrestrial TV and cable, to intelligent Internet-based media, such as OTT channels and social media. This affects the profit structure of each media company and the competition among them, furthermore, the competitiveness of media services. In this regard, we propose a domestic UHD activation plan after evaluating the competitiveness of each media based on the analysis of the changes in the domestic media environment and the status of UHD services.
