Ternary blend fibers (TBFs) based on melt blends of PEN, PET, and TLCP were prepared by melt blending and spinning to achieve high performance fibers. The reinforcement effect and the TLCP fibrillar structure resulted in the improvement of mechanical properties for TBFs. Molecular orientation was an important factor in determining the tensile strength and modulus of TBFs. Another part of this research is silica nano-particle filled PEN composites were melt-blended to improve mechanical and physicalproperties, and processability. The tensile modulus and strength were improved adding silica nano-particles to the PEN. The decreased melt viscosity by the fumed silica resulted in the improvement of the processability. The fumed silica may act as a nucleating agent in the PEN matrix.

Polypropylene (PP) has been received great attention as a next-generation high-voltage power cable insulation material that can replace cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). However, the PP cannot be used alone as an insulation material because of its high elastic modulus and vulnerability to impact, and thus is mainly utilized as a form of a copolymer with rubber phases included in the polymerization step. In this paper, a soft PP-based blend was prepared through melt-mixing of impact PP, polyolefin elastomer, and propylene-ethylene random copolymer. The elastic modulus and impact strength of the blend could properly be decreased or increased, respectively, by introducing elastomeric phases. Furthermore, the blends showed a high storage modulus even at a temperature of 100℃ or higher at which the XLPE loses its mechanical properties. In addition, the blend was found to be effective in suppressing the space charge compared to the pristine PP as well as XLPE.

This study presents the experimental results of frost durability including resistance to freezing-thawing and surface scaling of concrete. Mixing design was proportioned with the various water-binder ratio between 0.37 and 0.47 and three different binder compositions corresponding to Type I cement without any supplementary cementitious materials(OPC), Type II cement with 50% blast-furnace slag replacement(BFS50), and ternary cement with Type III cement, 15% fly ash, and 35% slag replacement (BFS35%+FA15%). Test results showed that the mixing design with BFS50% and BFS35%+FA15% exhibited higher durability factor than that made with OPC only. Finally, the use of blend cement containing slag can be used effectively in terms of frost durability of the concrete exposed to severe condition under coastal environment like as flying salt, sea water spray, etc.

The research analyzes and investigates conventional concrete, hydration heat, set, and mechanical properties by making high flowing self-compacting concretes of binary blend and ternary blend as one of evaluations about the properties of the hydration heat of high flowing self-compacting concrete with a strength of 30, 50, and 70 MPa. In addition, it estimates concrete adiabatic temperatures by calculating a thermal property value of powder obtained by measuring a heat evolution amount for powder used in concrete, a thermal property value of concrete obtained by conducting a simple adiabatic temperature test, and a normal thermal property value of material used in concrete, using a simple equation. Moreover, it analyzes and investigates the hydration heat property of high flowing self-compacting concrete and the thermal stress caused by hydration heat by conducting a 3D temperature stress analysis for the hydration heat and the adiabatic temperature obtained by temperature analysis, using MIDAS CIVIL 06 program.

Presently, mass concrete structures are being built in federal and private projects of civil infrastructures and building structures. The hydration heat of mass concrete structures is the most important factor in the quality of concrete matrix and construction period. Moreover, internal cracks caused by hydration heat degrades durability, water tightness, and strength of concrete. To reduce hydration heat, it is necessary to blend belite cement (${\beta}-C_2S$) with industrial by-products (i.e. granulated slag and fly ash). In this experiment, 14 levels of binary binders and 4 levels of ternary binders were used to understand the effect of different replacement ratio on hydration heat, strength and microstructure (i.e. SEM and XRD) of mortar. Cumulative hydration heat at 28 days for the binary and ternary binders was affected by replacement ratio of fly ash and/or granulated slag. As fly ash content increased, hydration heat decreased. As granulated slag content increased, reduction rate of the hydration heat was lower than when fly ash was used. Especially, the hydration heat of ternary binder blended with 40% flyash and 30% granulated slag showed about 50% of hydration heat from using belite cement (P). The study results showed that the temperature rise of concrete matrix can be decreased by using blended belite binders producing low hydration heat and reasonable strength.
This review will be concentrated on the spray characteristics of bioethanol and its derived fuels such as ethanol-diesel, ethanol-biodiesel in compression ignition (CI) engines. The difficulty in meeting the severe limitations on NOx and PM emissions in CI engines has brought about many methods for the application of ethanol because ethanol diffusion flames in engine produce virtually no soot. The most popular method for the application of ethanol as a fuel in CI engines is the blending of ethanol with diesel. The physical properties of ethanol and its derivatives related to spray characteristics such as viscosity, density and surface tension are discussed. Viscosity and density of e-diesel and e-biodiesel generally are decreased with increase in ethanol content and temperature. More than 22% and 30% of ethanol addition would not satisfied the requirement of viscosity and density in EN 590, respectively. Investigation of neat ethanol sprays in CI engines was conducted by very few researchers. The effect of ambient temperature on liquid phase penetration is a controversial topic due to the opposite result between two studies. More researches are required for the spray characteristics of neat ethanol in CI engines. The ethanol blended fuels in CI engines can be classified into ethanol-diesel blend (e-diesel) and ethanol-biodiesel (e-biodiesel) blend. Even though dodecanol and n-butanol are rarely used, the addition of biodiesel as blend stabilizer is the prevailing method because it has the advantage of increasing the biofuel concentration in diesel fuel. Spray penetration and SMD of e-diesel and e-biodiesel decrease with increase in ethanol concentration, and in ambient pressure. However, spray angle is increased with increase in the ethanol percentage in e-diesel. As the ambient pressure increases, liquid phase penetration was decreased, but spray angle was increased in e-diesel. The increase in ambient temperature showed the slight effect on liquid phase penetration, but spray angle was decreased. A numerical study of micro-explosion concluded that the optimum composition of e-diesel binary mixture for micro-explosion was approximately E50D50, while that of e-biodiesel binary mixture was E30B70 due to the lower volatility of biodiesel. Adding less volatile biodiesel into the ternary mixture of ethanol-biodiesel-diesel can remarkably enhance micro-explosion. Addition of ethanol up to 20% in e-biodiesel showed no effect on spray penetration. However, increase of nozzle orifice diameter results in increase of spray penetration. The more study on liquid phase penetration and SMD in e-diesel and e-biodiesel is required.
We investigated the electronic property and atomic structure for chalcopyrite (CH) AlxGa1-xAs semiconductor by using first-principles FPLMTO method. The CH-AlxGa1-xAs exhibits a p-type semiconductor with a direct band-gap. For low Al concentration unoccupied hole-carriers are induced, but for high Al concentration it is formed a localized bonding or anti-bonding state below Fermi level. The hybridization of Al(3s)-Ga(4s, or 4p) is larger than that of Al(3s)-As(4s, or 4p). And the Al film on As-terminated surface, Al/AsGa(001), is more energetically favorable one than that on Ga-terminated (001) surface. Consequently, the band-gap of CH-AlxGa1-xAs system increases exponentially with increasing Al concentration. The change of lattice parameter is shown two different configurations with increasing Al concentration. The calculated lattice parameters for CH-AlxGa1-xAs system are compared to the experimental ones of zinc-blend GaAs and AlAs.
Compatibilization of blends based on poly(phenylene ether) (PPE) and polyamide (PA) has been practiced with the incorporation of a copolymer formed by grafting polystyrene onto polybutadiene latex (g-BS) which is further functionalized with maleic anhydride (MAH) (g-BS*) to impart reactivity with amine groups of PA. The major focus has been placed on the effect of the various structural factors in g-BS8 on the phase morphology and mechanical performance of the blends. For the balance of impact strength and heat resistance, it was important to locate g-BS n particles inside of the PPE phase, which was accomplished by the proper control of the molecular weight and amount of PS in g-BS*. For g-BS*'s having constant molecular weight and amount of PS, the reduction of MAH content or increase of rubber particle size in g-BS* resulted in the increase of domain size and consequently loss in mechanical properties. Based on the comparison made with the conventional PPE/PA blend comprising MAH grafted PPE as a compatibilizer, it was confirmed that the comparable level of mechanical performance can be achieved by an appropriate g-BS* type material with improved whiteness index.
Poly(p-hydroxybenzoate) (PHB)/poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) 8/2 thermotropic liquid crystalline copolyester, poly(ethylene 2,6-naphthalate) (PEN), and PET ternary blend was spun to fiber by melt spinninB process, and tensile properties of the fibers were measured. The matrix of the fibers, PET and PEN, were dissolved in ο-chlorophenol at 55$^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours, and the liquid crystalline polymer fibrils were observed using a scanning electron microscope. Halpin-Tsai equation for modulus calculation of short fiber reinforced composite and the rule of mixture for continuous reinforcement composite were modified, and the tensile modulus were calculated and compared with experimental modulus. To minimize difference between the theoretical and the experimental moduli, dimensionless viscosity constant (K) was given and used to modify two equations. The theoretical tensile modulus using the newly modified equations presentel a similar to the experimental tensile modulus of composite, and the modified equations presented a unique way to determine the tensile modulus of the liquid crystalline polymer reinforced thermoplastic composites.
A variety of polycarboxylate ether (PCE)-based superplasticizers are commercially available. Their influence on the rheological retention and slump loss in respect of concrete differ considerably. Fluidity and slump loss are the cardinal features responsible for the quality of concrete. These are related to the dispersion of cement particles and the hydration process which are greatly influenced by type of polycarboxylate ether (PCE)-based superplasticizers. On the backdrop of relatively less studies in the context of rheological retention of high strength self-consolidating concrete (HS-SCC), the experimental investigations were carried out aiming at quantifying the effect of the six different PCE polymers (PCE 1-6) on the rheological retention of HS-SCC mixes containing two types of Ordinary Portland Cements (OPC) and unwashed crushed sand as the fine aggregate. The tests that were carried out included $T_{500}$, V-Funnel, yield stress and viscosity retention tests. The supplementary cementitious materials such as fly ash (FA) and micro-silica (MS) were also used in ternary blend keeping the mix paste volume and flow of concrete constant. Low water to binder ratio was used. The results reveal that not only the PCEs of different polymer groups behave differently, but even the PCEs of same polymer groups also behave differently. The study also indicates that the HS-SCC mixes containing PCE 6 and PCE 5 performed better as compared to the mixes containing PCE 1, PCE 2, PCE 3 and PCE 4 in respect of all the rheological tests. The PCE 6 is a new class of chemical admixtures known as Polyaryl Ether (PAE) developed by BASF to provide better rheological properties in even in HS-SCC mixes at low water to binder mix. In the present study, the PCE 6, is found to help not only in reduction in the plastic viscosity and yield stress, but also provide good rheological retention over the period of 180 minutes. Further, the early compressive strength properties (one day compressive strength) highly depend on the type of PCE polymer. The side chain length of PCE polymer and the fineness of the cement considerably affect the early strength gain.
