  • This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between sound color and physical propertiessuiting fabrics. Rustling sounds of 23 suiting fabrics by sound generator developed for this study were recorded and analysed through FFT analysis. Three sound color factor(ΔL Δf. LPT) were obtained.Physical properties of specimens were measured by KES-FB. Level range(L) showed significant correlation with tensile resilience(RT) and thickness (T). Frequency difference(Δf) showed significant correlation with tensile linearity(LT), shear properties(G, 2HG, 2HG5), compressional energy(WC), and weight(W). Total sound pressure (LPT) showed significant correlation with elongation at maximum load (EM), tensile linearity(LY), and tesile energy(WT). By stepwise regression LPT was found to be explained by EM, MIU, RC, LT significantly.

  • For the total description of mechanical behaviors of elastomers, it is necessary to know the so-called rheological constitutive equation i.e. the strain-energy density function (W) in case of elastomers, which necessitates biaxial tensile results of elastic body. This paper first describes the experimental results of biaxial tensile measurements on poly(siloxane) model networks. W was estimated from its differential form i.e. the $1^{st}$ differential of W is stress. The W was found to reproduce the experimental stress-strain results, and the W estimated for silica filled poly(siloxane) networks suggest a different behavior between conventional precipitated silica and in situ formed silica. The difference suggests the different surface property of the two silicas.

  • This study was conducted to determine the prevention effect of poly-gamma-glutamic acid (${\gamma}-PGA$) on tissue damage induced by gamma irradiation for development of xenograft. Porcine tendons were treated at various doses of ${\gamma}-PGA$ (0.1, 0.5, 1 and 5%) and then gamma-irradiated (30 kGy). Prevention effects on tissue damage were measured as the result of tensile strength, hydroxyproline contents and viscosity of ${\gamma}-PGA$. Tensile strength was remarkably decrease in gamma-irradiated porcine ligament, but increased by ${\gamma}-PGA$ treated one. Among the ${\gamma}-PGA$ treatment doses, 1% treated group showed the highest values of tensile strength compared to non-treated group. Hydroxyproline contents was significantly increased by gamma irradiation, but decreased by the ${\gamma}-PGA$ treatment. Particularly, 1 and 5% ${\gamma}-PGA$ treated group were exhibited lower values of hydroxyproline contents than other group. In the result of viscosity, gamma-irradiated ${\gamma}-PGA$ (1%) was remarkably increased. Base on the results, it demonstrated that gamma irradiation induces severe alteration of mechanical property and collagen contents on porcine ligament, but ${\gamma}-PGA$ can effectively prevent these tissue damage.

  • In the case of a crack propagation, a portion of the work of inelastic deformation near the crack tip is dissipated as heat. In order to understand the thermal effect on fracture toughness, tensile test was carried out using thermocouples to monitor the variation of temperature with SA516 Gr70. The experimental results show that the temperature of specimen was increased $3.6^{\circ}C$ at static load condition. And the thermal effect was investigated connected with the steady-state stress in the vicinity of a crack propagation in the elastic-plastic C-T specimen theoretically. And fracture toughness, the energy to make crack surfaces, presented correctively. The fracture toughness with considering heat at the blunting of the crack tip ws lower about 19.3% than that of ignoring heat. So, it is resonable to apply the fracture toughness with considering thermal energy and it would be good explanation for constraint effect depending on the configuration in the presence of excessive plasticity.

  • Due to certain geological characteristics (high thickness, rocky properties), some underground coal mines require the use of explosives. This paper explores the effects of fragmentation of different decks detonated simultaneously in a single borehole with the use of numerical analysis. ANSYS/LS-DYNA code was used for the implementation of the models. The models include an erosion criterion to simulate the cracks generated by the explosion. As expected, the near-borehole area was damaged by compression stresses, while far zones and the free surface of the boundary were subjected to tensile damage. With the increase of the number of decks in the borehole, different changes in the fracture pattern were observed, and the superposition effects of the stress wave became evident, affecting the fragmentation results. The superposition effect is more evident in close distances to the borehole, and its effect attenuates when the distance to the borehole increase.

  • Reinforced concrete (RC) does not provide sufficient resistance against impacts and blast loads, and the brittle structure of RC fails to protect against fractures due to the lack of shock absorption. Investigations on improving its resistance against explosion and impact have been actively conducted on high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composites (HPFRCCs), such as fiber-reinforced concrete and ultra-high-performance concrete. For these HPFRCCs, however, tensile strength and toughness are still significantly lower compared to compressive strength due to their limited fiber volume fraction. Therefore, in this study, the tensile behavior of slurry-infiltrated fiber-reinforced cementitious composites (SIFRCCs), which can accommodate a large number of steel fibers, was analyzed under static and dynamic loading to improve the shortcomings of RC and to enhance its explosion and impact resistance. The fiber volume fractions of SIFRCCs were set to 4%, 5%, and 6%, and three strain rate levels (maximum strain rate: 250 s-1) were applied. As a result, the tensile strength exceeded 15 MPa under static load, and the dynamic tensile strength reached a maximum of 40 MPa. In addition, tensile characteristics, such as tensile strength, deformation capacity, and energy absorption capacity, were improved as the fiber volume fraction and strain rate increased.

  • The aims of this study was to determine the mechanical properties of steel-fiber reinforced concrete under direct tensile loading, and also to insestigate the mechanism fiber reinforcement in order to improve the possible applications of steel-fiber reinforced concrete. In this study the major variables of experimental investigation were fiber conntents, and the lengths and diameters of fibers. The major results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. The strength, elastic modulus and energy absorption capability of steel-fiber reinforced concrete under direct tensile loading were improved as increasing of fiber contents. 2. The direct tensile strength of steel-fiber reinforced concrete was not influenced by the lengths of fiber, but was decreased as increasing of fiber diameters. 3. The direct tensile strength of steel-fiber reinforced concrete was not influenced by the fiber aspect-ratio, but this was because the fiber contents were below the critical value of fiber content. 4. The correlation of direct tensile strength and combined parameter, Vf l/d, was not good. 5. Mutiple cracking and post-crack resistance were investigated at stress-strain curves in direct tensile test. 6. The effect of fiber reinforcement can be influenced by fiber orientation and the bond strength between fiber and matrix. 7. The improvement of mechanical properties of steel-fiber reinforced concrete under direct tensile loading can be theoretically explained by the concept of composite materials.
