신앙구조(信仰構造)를 통해 본 사찰공간(寺刹空間) 구성(構成)에 관한 연구(硏究) (A study on the Buddist Temple Space through the religious composition)

  • Buddhist Architecture should be set for worship and an ascetic life, which is its main function as it is a religious facility and its space and form can be considered as means to achieve efficiently a religious function. Every religion concludes its religious function through its ideas and form of faith based on scriptures and religious precepts. The thing should be paid attention to from this point of view is how Buddhist doctrines are reflected on the architecture and the background recognition about the fundamental doctrines and religious system should be preceded to clarify it. Existing researches have studied the characteristics of Buddhist temples on the point of functional view and architectural spacial view through phenomenal ways. Though fruitful results bore about the Korean space through that way, more internal viewpoint is required to clarify the fundamental regularities and spatial concepts indwelling in temple architecture. Considering what structural elements were required to compose one space in traditional Korean architecture is the fundamental subject and important. This thesis searches architectural characteristics through inquiring about the main building and annexes and understanding symbolic characteristics about the arrangement of the Buddhist statue and solemn things in the Buddhist temples of tangible cultural assets or above located in Seoul area.

프레아피투 사원 평면도 복원을 통한 유구 간 상관관계 고찰 -앙코르 유적 "프레아피투 사원" 연구 (1)- (A Study on the Correlation among Historic Remains of the Preah Pithu through the Floor Plan Restoration -A Study of Preah Pithu Monument in Angkor (1)-)

  • We surveyed Preah Pithu monument group site in Angkor. We made the map of present condition throughout the actual measurement and 3D scan. And we restored the floor plan, and completed the map of site placement. During this processing, we confirmed the middle axis of temples and studied the relation of temples and made clear the order of sites. Throughout this studying, we verified the middle axis of sites is not matched in Preah Pithu monument group. It is different aspect comparing with general Khmer religion architectures which were built with the planification belonging to strong royal authority and shared main axis through whole sites. In other words, we can estimate that Preah Pithu monument group was not built with planification rather than expanded as occasional demand during the process of actual use.

경관 특성 파악에 있어서의 시퀀스적 시점장 선정과 전방위 화상정보의 유효성 검증에 관한 연구 (A Study of Selecting Sequential Viewpoint and Examining the Effectiveness of Omni-directional Angle Image Information in Grasping the Characteristics of Landscape)

  • Relating to grasping sequential landscape characteristics in consideration of the behavioral characteristics of the subject experiencing visual perception, this study was made on the subject of main walking line section for visitors of three treasures of Buddhist temples. Especially, as a method of obtaining data for grasping sequential visual perception landscape, the researcher employed [momentum sequential viewpoint setup] according to [the interval of pointers arbitrarily] and fisheye-lens-camera photography using the obtained omni-directional angle visual perception information. As a result, in terms of viewpoint selection, factors like approach road form, change in circulation axis, change in the ground surface level, appearance of objects, etc. were verified to make effect, and among these, approach road form and circulation axis change turned out to be the greatest influences. In addition, as a result of reviewing the effectiveness via the subjects, for the sake of qualitative evaluation of landscape components using the VR picture image obtained in the process of acquiring omni-directional angle visual perception information, a positive result over certain values was earned in terms of panoramic vision, scene reproduction, three-dimensional perspective, etc. This convinces us of the possibility to activate the qualitative evaluation of omni-directional angle picture information and the study of landscape through it henceforth.

A half-century of rocking isolation

  • The uplifting and rocking of slender, free-standing structures when subjected to ground shaking may limit appreciably the seismic moments and shears that develop at their base. This high-performance seismic behavior is inherent in the design of ancient temples with emblematic peristyles that consist of slender, free-standing columns which support freely heavy epistyles together with the even heavier frieze atop. While the ample seismic performance of rocking isolation has been documented with the through-the-centuries survival of several free-standing ancient temples; and careful post-earthquake observations in Japan during the 1940's suggested that the increasing size of slender free-standing tombstones enhances their seismic stability; it was George Housner who 50 years ago elucidated a size-frequency scale effect that explained the "counter intuitive" seismic stability of tall, slender rocking structures. Housner's 1963 seminal paper marks the beginning of a series of systematic studies on the dynamic response and stability of rocking structures which gradually led to the development of rocking isolation-an attractive practical alternative for the seismic protection of tall, slender structures. This paper builds upon selected contributions published during this last half-century in an effort to bring forward the major advances together with the unique advantages of rocking isolation. The paper concludes that the concept of rocking isolation by intentionally designing a hinging mechanism that its seismic resistance originates primarily from the mobilization of the rotational inertia of its members is a unique seismic protection strategy for large, slender structures not just at the limit-state but also at the operational state.

'ㅁ'자형(字形) 중층요사(重層寮舍)의 건축특성(建築特性)에 관한 연구(硏究) (A Study on the Architectural characteristics of the ㅁ-shaped Yo-Sa with two stories)

  • This study is on architectural characteristics of the existing ㅁ-shaped Yo-Sa with two stories in Buddhist temple. The Yo-Sa has had the function of space for not only monasticism but also living of buddhist priests and been one of the important spaces in Buddhist temple from the beginning of it. The Yo-Sa with two stories appeared mostly in the later Chosun Dynasty, so the origin of the Yo-Sa with two stories is thought that it might relate to the circumstances of temples in the later Chosun Dynasty. Having got in the period of Chosun Dynasty, Buddhism lost the power that he has enjoyed since Korea Dynasty was established and the economic power of temples as well. Because of a change for the worse, the Buddhist priests should manage with reduced income and combine many buildings with various functions into a singular to overcome their circumstances. Therefore a waekened economic power might be a primary factor which urged to change form of Yo-Sa from one-storied to two-storied. The ㅁ-shaped Yo-Sa with two stories have the Dae-Bang-Chae for worship, Seung-Bang for Buddhist's living room in the bottom floor and garnering spaces to store up the agricultural produce, miscellaneous article, etc in the top floor. The composition methods depend on the condition of the lay of land, intentional design, and so on. Therefore, the ㅁ-shped Yo-Sa with two stories shows the diversity of space composition and architectural characteristics.

영암사지(靈巖寺址) 금당의 목조 가구구조(架構構造) 복원에 관한 연구 (A Research on the Reconstruction of Wooden Frame Structure of Kumdang in Yongamsaji)

  • The purpose of this study is to reconstruct the wooden frame structure of Buddhist temple, Kumdang in Youngamsaji which assumed to be built in the 9th century of Unified Silla Dynasty. The remaining site of Kumdang in Youngamsaji is investigated thoroughly with a particular attention to bay size and column distribution. The five ancient Buddhist temples which were built in the same period also have the same frame type as Youngamsaji Kumdang. These five ancient Buddhist temples and Kumdang in Youngamsaji are meticulously investigated in terms of their bay sizes and measuring modules. The framework schema is devised as a conceptual tool to conjecture wooden frame structures of Buddhist temple. A theoretical differentiation between frame type and frame structure is attempted to formulated a wooden frame structure as a stepping-stone for the reconstruction of traditional wooden building. The wooden frame structure of 9C Kumdang in Youngamsaji mainly follows the oldest Korean wooden pavilion, Muryangsujeon in Busuk temple, with a hip and gable roof. The wooden frame structure of 9C Kumdang in Youngamsaji is reconstructed through 3D computer modeling to such an extent that every wooden components of the structure can be 3D printed. The reconstruction also takes reference from the Cai-Fen system in Yingzao Fashi.

사찰불전의 전간개방 창호 형식변화에 관한 연구 (A Study On the Transformation of types of Windows and Doors with Full-Openable Bay size in Korean Buddhist Temples)

  • A transitional trend of architectural elements which would happen naturally in a building may be a cue to the changes of the times. In this respect, this study is to investigate the transformation of types of windows and doors with the full-openable bay size in Korean Buddhist Temples and search for transitional process on types of windows and doors according to the flow of the times. As the results of this study, the following conclusion could be obtained. 1. The type of bunhap(connected door frame) Deul E-Yul-Gae doors + Deul E-Yul-Gas (life up) single windows would be changed from windows of a bay just beside a on the transition that the whole would be altered into the same type. 2. The type of Bunhap (connected door frame)Deul E-Yul-Gae doors + Bunhap (connected door frame) Deul E-Yul-Gae doors would be changed into Bunhap swinging doors that the whole of windows and doors could be opend very easily. 3. The type of Bunhap swinging doors + Bunhap swinging doors would be seen in the transition that windows and doors would be altered separately due to the exchange from window and doors of one of a middle bay or a bay just beside a middle bay to swinging doors and etc.

장승의 기원과 옹중석 (The Origin of Changseung and Ongjung Stone)

  • 우리가 '장승'이라고 부르는 조형물들은 그 기원이나 역사, 또는 기능이 서로 달라 엄밀한 구별이 필요하다. 이 글은 장승의 기원과 함께 역사적인 변화과정을 더듬어 이 구조물이 갖는 두 가지 다른 측면을 구분하고 이에 기초하여 소위 '석장승'의 다양한 기원과 기능을 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 고려시기에 사찰에서는 장생, 또는 관련 석물을 세웠는데, 이 중 '통도사국장생석표'는 석표(石標)라기보다는 석비(石碑)의 기능을 갖는다. 석비에 음각된 명문을 보면 이전의 판아(判兒)처럼 다시 세우라고 하였는데, 판아란 역귀(疫鬼)를 쫓는다는 종규(鍾郡)를 말한다. 명문 내용은 통도사의 영역을 장생으로 표시하였다는 것이다. 허목의 "월악기(月嶽記)"에 실려 있는 한준겸(韓浚謙)의 기사를 보면 도갑사 국장생의 규모가 매우 커서 이러한 추정을 가능케 하며 '국장생'이나 '황장생'이라고 새긴 입석은 장생이 아니라 표석, 즉 장생표(長生標)임을 알 수 있다. 조선시대에 들어와 이정(里程) 기능을 하는 후를 장생으로 부르게 되었는데 이는 사찰 장생과는 달리 나무로 만들어 사찰 장생의 생(生) 자에 나무 목(木) 변을 붙인 것으로 판단된다. 그리고 요즈음과는 달리 조선시기에는 비보 성격을 갖는 사찰 석상이나 읍성풍수물을 장승이라고 부른 경우는 찾을 수 없다. 예를 들면 제주도 '돌하르방'을 두고 장승이라고도 불렀다는 역사적 근거는 없다. "탐라기년(耽羅紀年)"에 의하면 제주목사 김몽규(金夢奎)가 성문 밖에 옹중석(翁仲石)을 세웠다고 했는데, 옹중석은 대개 고대 제왕(帝王)이나 대신(大臣)의 능묘 앞에 세운 석인상(石人像)을 지칭하는 말이다. 옹중석은 엽승[壓勝]을 위한 풍수물로도 나온다. "광주읍지(光州邑誌)"(1899년간)에는 수구(水口)를 만들고 석옹중 2기를 마주 세워 그 기를 진압하였다는 기사가 나온다. 전라북도 부안읍치의 동쪽과 서쪽에 각각 2기씩 세워진 석물에는 '상원주장군(上元周將軍)'과 '하원당장군(下元唐將軍)'이라는 명문이 있는데, 읍성풍수물인 이것 역시 석장생이나 장승, 또는 당산으로 불릴 이유는 없다. 도교적인 개념인 상원(上元)과 하원(下元)이 붙은 주장군이나 당장군은 이후 사찰 석상의 명문으로 자주 등장하고, 이후에는 이표 장승에도 붙는다. 사모를 쓴 북한산성 옹중석을 지금은 볼 수 없는 것처럼 많던 옹중석들은 어딘가에 묻혔을 것이다. 그 와중에도 제주의 옹중석과 부안 읍성의 석상은 위치 이동이 적어 옹중석의 기능을 확실하게 알 수 있다. 이 시기에 설립된 석상들은 고려시기에 조성된 장생(長生)과 기능상 가장 관련이 깊은 듯하다. 즉, 과거의 장생처럼 18세기 초중반의 석상들은 읍성, 또는 사찰의 비보물이면서 동시에 경계를 표시하는 기능을 하였을 것으로 보인다. 사찰 석상의 설립시기는 양전사업이 전국적으로 실시된 때이기도 하지만 속세에서는 산송(山訟)이 활발해지는 때라 사찰에서는 비보와 함께 영역 표시를 위해 석상들을 세웠을 것으로 보인다. 현재 장승으로 통칭되는 목인과 석상들은 각자가 서로 다른 시대에 서로 다른 이유로 세워진 것들이다. 그 출발은 고려시기 사찰의 장생(長生)으로 비보물이면서 동시에 사찰의 영역을 표시하는 석물, 또는 석상이었다.

법주사와 선암사의 국지 기상 및 미세먼지 특성 비교 (Comparison of Characteristics of Local Meteorological and Particulate Matter(TSP) on the Beopjusa Temple and Seonamsa Temple)

  • 건조물문화재의 생물피해 관련하여 먼저 기상요소를 직접 측정하고 국지 기상 특성을 파악하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 본 연구는 목조 건축물, 석조 건축물 생물피해가 확인되고, 지역적 기후 차이가 뚜렷한 충북 보은 법주사와 전남 순천 선암사를 비교 대상으로 기상요소 10가지 항목을 관측하였고 미세먼지(TSP)를 포집 분석하였다. 또한, 기상요소-미세먼지 간, 기상요소 간 상관성 분석을 실시하였다. 법주사의 국지 기상 특성은 일사량, 자외선량, 증발량이 많고 풍속이 빠르며 미세먼지 농도가 높은 반면 선암사의 국지 기상 특성은 기온, 습도, 이슬점온도, 기압이 높고 강수량, 강수일수가 많았다. 미세먼지의 원소분석결과, 선암사는 해염 입자가 추가로 발견되었고, 법주사에 비해 생체 입자와 철함유입자의 월별 빈도가 높게 나타났다. 상관성 분석 결과, 법주사는 풍속이, 선암사는 습도가 주요 기상인자로써 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 이상의 결과로 선암사의 기상 특성은 각종 생물 성장에 유리하므로 건조물문화재의 생물학적 손상에 영향이 더 클 것으로 예상된다.
