  • Temperature variation during silicon wafer baking is mainly due to natural convection caused by temperature difference between silicon wafer and upper plate. Several cases are tested and calculated numerically to improve temperature uniformity. The temperature difference and velocity magnitude in the flow cell is reduced for a small gap between the wafer and upper plate because the natural convection force is suppressed in the small space. The uniform temperature distribution can be obtained with controling the incoming flow distribution from the upper plate. An alternative method is the adiabatic wall condition on the upper plate to maintain the temperature uniformity within $0.3^{\circ}C$ on the water plate.

  • Low Rayleigh number thermal convection in a fluid layer confined between two-infinite horizontal walls kept at spatially sinusoidal temperature distributions, T_L=T_m+\Delta T\sin \kappax,\;T_U=T_m+\Delta T\sin(\kappax-\beta)$, is theoretically investigated by a regular perturbation expansion method. For small wave numbers, an upright cell is formed between the two walls at $\beta$=0. The cell is tilted, as the phase difference increases, and a flow with tow counter-rotating eddies occurs at $\beta=\pi$. when the wave number is large, isolated eddies are formed near the lower and upper walls, for all the phase differences. There exists a wave number at which maximum heat transfer rate at the walls occurs, at each of the phase differences. And the wave number increases with increase of the phase difference. for a fixed wave number, the heat transfer rate decrease with increase of the phase difference.

  • Condition based maintenance(CBM) for the preventive diagnosis of important equipments related to safety or accident in power plant is essential by using the suitable methods based on actual power plant conditions. To improve the reliability and accuracy of the measured value at the minute leak situation, and also to monitor continuously internal leak condition of power plant valve, the development of a diagnosis and monitoring technique using multi-measuring method should be performed urgently. This study was conducted to estimate the feasibility of multi-measuring method using three different methods such as acoustic emission(AE) method, thermal image measurement and temperature difference$({\Delta}T)$ measurement that are applicable to internal leak diagnosis for the power plant valve. From the experimental results, it was suggested that the multi-measuring method could be an effective way to precisely diagnose and evaluate internal leak situation of valve.

  • A numerical solution using finite difference method to evaluate the thermal buckling of simply supported FGM plate with variable thickness is presented in this research. First, the governing differential equation of thermal stability under uniform temperature through the plate thickness is derived. Then, the governing equation has been solved using finite difference method. After validating the presented numerical method with the analytical solution, the finite difference formulation has been extended in order to include variable thickness. The accuracy of the finite difference method for variable thickness plate has been also compared with the literature where a good agreement has been found. Furthermore, a parametric study has been conducted to analyze the effect of material and geometric parameters on the thermal buckling resistance of the FGM plates. It was found that the thickness variation affects isotropic plates a bit more than FGM plates.

  • An algorithm for detection of yellow sand aerosols has been developed with infrared bands. This algorithm is a hybrid algorithm that has used two methods combined. The first method used the differential absorption in brightness temperature difference between $11{\mu}m\;and\;12{\mu}m\;(BTD1)$. The radiation at $11{\mu}m$ is absorbed more than at $12{\mu}m$ when yellow sand is loaded in the atmosphere, whereas it will be the other way around when cloud is present. The second method uses the brightness temperature difference between $3.7{\mu}m\;and\;11{\mu}m(BTD2)$. This technique is sensitive to dust loading, which the BTD2 is enhanced by reflection of $3.7{\mu}m$ solar radiation. First the Principle Component Analysis (PCA), a form of eigenvector statistical analysis from the two methods, is performed and the aerosol pixel with the lowest 10% of the eigenvalue is eliminated. Then the aerosol index (AI) from the combination of BTD 1 and 2 is derived. We applied this method to Multi-functional Transport Satellite-l Replacement (MTSAT-1R) data and obtained that the derived AI showed remarkably good agreements with Ozone Mapping Instrument (OMI) AI and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aerosol optical depth.

  • The one of critical factor in gas turbine engine performance is high turbine inlet gas temperature. Therefore, the turbine rotor has so many problems which must be considered such as the turbine blade cooling, thermal stress of turbine disk due to severe temperature gradient, turbine rotor tip clearance, under the high operating temperature. The purpose of this study is to provider the temperature distribution and heat flux in turbine disk which is required to considered premensioned problem by the Finite Difference Method and the Finite Element Methods on the steady state condition. In this study, the optimum aspect ratio of turbine disk was analysed for various heat conductivity of turbine disk material by Finite Difference Method, and the effect of laminating method with high conductivity materials to disk thickness direction by Finite Element Methods in order to cool the disk. The laminating method with high conductivity material on the side of the disk is effective.

  • We measured change of peripheral skin temperature and mean skin temperature when the upper arm and thigh are pressured in order to know the effect of skin pressure applied by clothing on blood circulation. After release from pressure, we observed also recovery condition. At the same time, we examined relation between pressure and a feeling of thightness. Three physiques of healthy females, namely slender, standard and plump, served as subjects. We used continuous restraint method with skin pressure applied by experimental fabric for 10 min. As a result of this experiment, we obtained following findings. 1. The significant difference was marked at the pressure, measuring time and physique with change of skin temperature under upper arm restraint. The peripheral and mean skin temperature decreased with the lapse of restraint time. A remarkable tendency observed according to the increase of restraint pressure. Recovery condition after release from pressure not yet recovered to original state, for all after a lapse of 10 min. 2. The significant difference was marked at the pressure, measuring time and physique with change of skin temperature under thigh restraint, especially different physique was remarkable among them. The peripheral skin temperature decreased or decreased. Recovery condition after release from pressure was the same upper arm. 3. Main factor affecting the evaluation of a feeling of tightness was restraint pressure. The value of pressure sensation made remarkable declined after a lapse of 10 min restraint time. Individual differences, however, were shown in pressure sensation.

  • A numerical analysis has been performed for natural convection in an air conditioner duct system. The governing equations were solved a finite volume method using a SIMPLE algorithm. In the calculation mode of duct, the room temperature was preserved at $25.0^{\circ}C$ and duct wall temperature had a temperature of 15, 20.0, 22.5, 23.75, 26.25, 27.5 30 and $35^{\circ}C$. The results of velocity vectors and contours have been represented for various parameters. Based on the numerical data, the relationships between temperature difference and flow rate into room was represented. In the case of $T_\gamma>T_\omega$, the equation for temperature difference and flow rate was $Q=0.0285\triangleT^0.4005$, and in the case of $T_\gamma>T_\omega$, the equation was $Q=0.0099\triangleT^0.4752$. The duct system has an important relation to room temperature and duct wall temperature.

  • The effects of ambient air temperature on the clothing ventilation were investigated numerically by a finite difference method. Numerical analysis using a 2-dimensional model comprising the air space between the skin and the clothing was conducted under the assumption that the clothing ventilation occurred only through the openings not through the fabric. The larger the temperature difference between the skin and the surroundings, the more apparent the thermal boundary layer As the ambient air temperature decreased, the air flow and the rate of the return of oxygen concentration to the atmosphere level in the clothing increased. Convection was dominant under low ambient air temperature, whereas conduction was dominant under high ambient air temperature. The ventilation rate was faster in the clothing microenvironment of the body part than that of the arm part.
