Temperature Field Measurements of Hele-Shaw Convection Cell Using a Holographic Interferometry (홀로그래픽 간섭계를 이용한 Hele-Shaw Convection Cell 내부 온도장 측정)

  • Variations of temperature field in a Hele-Shaw convection cell (HSC) were measured using a holographic interferometry with varying Rayleigh number. Experimental results show a steady flow pattern at low Rayleigh numbers and a time-dependent periodic flow at high Rayleigh numbers. Especially, the period of oscillation at Ra = 6.35 × 106 was 62 seconds. Two different measurement methods of holographic interferometry, double-exposure method and real-time method, were employed to measure the temperature field variations of HSC convective flow. In the double-exposure method, unwanted waves can be eliminated and reconstruction images are clear, but transient flow structure cannot be observed clearly. On the other hand, transient flow can be observed and reconstructed well using the real-time method. However, the fringe patterns reconstructed by the real-time method contain more noise, compared with the double-exposure method. The two holographic interferometer techniques employed complementary in this study were proved to be useful fur analyzing the temperature field variations of unsteady thermal fluid flows.

  • In present measurement of moisture contents is used as one of method for estimating degradation of transformer. Most of people use Karl-Fischer titration method for detection moisture contents but this measurement is inconvenient method because we must analyze transformer oil-paper after dismounting transformer and sampling in field. Therefore we don't directly investigate them in field. In this paper we will introduce Recovery Voltage Method(RVM) that is new method for estimating measurement in field though dismounting facility. For measure of moisture contents using RVM in accordance with accelerated thermal aging we have made experimental test cell and aged at a temperature up to 140C for 300 hours. And we have been measured at intervals of 100 hours using RVM 5462 made in fetter company.

  • The magnetic field standards, facilities and capabilities available at NPL for the calibration of magnetometers and gradiometers and the measurement of the magnetic properties of materials will be introduced. The details of the low magnetic field facility will be explained and the capabilities this facility enables for the characterisation and calibration of ultra-sensitive room temperature magnetic sensors will be presented. Building on core material capabilities that are compliant with the IEC 60404 series of written standards, the example of a standard permeameter that has been modified for the measurement of strips for real world conditions is discussed. This was incorporated into a stress machine to measure the DC properties of the soft magnetic materials used by the partners of a collaborative industry led R&D project at stress levels of up to 700 MPa. The results for three materials are presented and the changes in the properties with applied stress compared to establish which material exhibits favourable properties.

  • This study carried out field observations of measuring thermal environment, especially evaluating amount of water evaporation at roof Pond by field observations during the summer. Thermal environment measuring was categorized as air temperature, water temperature of roof pond, surface temperature, globe temperature, short and long wave radiation, net radiation, and amount of water evaporation by water level measurement. Results from this study could be used as fundamental for reducing heat Island phenomena.

  • Magnetic refrigeration is based on the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) - the ability of some materials to heat up when magnetized and cool down when removed from the magnetic field. The available techniques for studying the MCE we: (1) direct measurements by monitoring the change in the material's temperature during the application or removal of the magnetic field; and (2) indirect calculations from the experimental data of magnetization and/or specific heat as a function of the temperature and magnetic field. The MCE of gadolinium (Gd) has been demonstrated by direct measurements of temperature change, and isothermal magnetic entropy changes and adiabatic temperature changes have been calculated.

  • Amorphous semiconductor from As 30 Te 48 Ge 10 Si 12 was prepared, and studied electron microscopy, X-ray analysis and resistivity measurement. It's resistivity is 1.56*106 .ohm.-cm when small ampule is used for preparing sample it is found that no phase separation has occurced by electron microscopy, and that phase transition temperature is 232.deg. C by differential Thermal Analysis. The specimen showed threshold switching that the low resistance state occur at critical electric field and the resistance recover at low applied field. Critical electric field of the switching is 105 V/cm at room temperature. Threshold voltage secreace exponentially with increasing ambient temperature and at that each voltage resistance of the switching device increase exponentially. According to the series resistance and applied vottage current slope on the V-I curve is varied. When applied voltage is decreased after switching, the resistance of the switching device is increased. By this result the origin of the switching is the Joule's heating.

  • Rises of current level at power applications, such as transformer, motor, power cable need for using stacked HTS tapes. In this paper, we measured rises of temperature and tap voltage in 4-stacked HTS tapes under over-current condition. We measured 4-stacked HTS tapes properties under over-current condition with a little temperature rise as well as a large temperature rise. Rises of temperature and tap voltage are measured by using E-type thermocouples and voltage taps, respectively. According to the results of measurement, rises of tap voltage under over-current condition with a large temperature rises depends on rises of temperature.

  • The inverse problem of determining unknown inlet temperature in thermally developing, hydrodynamically developed two phase laminar flow in a parallel plate duct is considered. The inlet temperature profile is determined by measuring temperature in the flow field. No prior information is needed for the functional form of the inlet temperature profile. The inverse convection problem is solved by minimizing the objective function with regularization method. The conjugate gradient method as iterative method and the Tikhonov regularization method are employed. The effects of the functional form of inlet temperature, the number of measurement points and the measurement errors are investigated. The accuracy and efficiency of these two methods are compared and discussed.

  • The effects of substrate material on the local heating performance of microheaters are studied by both numerical analysis and experiment. Transient conduction analysis shows that the substrate material with low thermal conductivity is critical to the local heating and fast response. A measurement technique for surface temperature field in microscale is newly proposed, which uses temperature sensitive fluorescent dye coated on the surface. The measured surface temperature fields on microheater arrays fabricated on different substrates are presented.

  • In this paper, multi-functional measurement module for RTD and 4-20mA Analog input is presented. As you know, In many industry field, RTD has been used for measuring a temperature. Although It have good properties such as wide measurement range, accuracy, the hardware or software compensation methods were applied to better linearity in many applications. According to this paper, a simply approximation method and various measuring technique are proposed to compensate large lead's resistance influence in RTD temperature measurements. As the experiment and simulation results, it is proved that the proposed method has good performance of measuring temperature. Additionally, with the CAN based communication, remote monitoring and parameter setting functions are realized.
