Integrated Management of Geographic Data and Vehicular Images in Geographic Information Systems

  • In this paper, we design and implement an integrated management system for geographic data and vehicular images using a Geographic Information System (GIS). Integrated management of geographic data and vehicular images is very important to manage and to provide them to users effectively because of a large volume of vehicular images. To manipulate these data together, we consider a vehicular image as a polygon which is a type of popular geographic data types. The polygon represents a region in which spatial objects appear the vehicular image.

  • Telematics is a compound word derived from telecommunication and informatics, which provides wireless data service such as traffic information, living information, remote control, maintenance and etc. in a vehicle using GPS(Global Positioning System) and telecommunication. Telematics acceptance was investigated to analyze characteristics of telematics service and its market by using a theoretical technology acceptance model based on literature review. In this paper, valid factors, influencing telematics service acceptance, have been drawn in terms of user ease-of-use, usefulness and service characteristics. Modified measuring variables were used by referring to previous researches.

  • The LBS (Location-Based Services) are valuable information services combined the location of moving object with various contents such as map, POI (point of Interest), route and so on. The must general service of LBS is route determination service and its applicable parts are FMS (Fleet Management System), travel advisory system and mobile navigation system. The core function of route determination service is determination of optimal route from source to destination in various environments. The MODB (Moving Object Database) system, core part of LBS composition systems, is able to manage current or past location information of moving object and massive trajectory information stored in MODB is value-added data in CRM, ERP and data mining part. Also this past trajectory information can be helpful to determine optimal route. In this paper, we suggest methods to determine optimal route by querying past trajectory information in MODB system and verify the effectiveness of suggested method.

  • With the proliferation of vehicles and advancement of Information Technology, the technology of Telematics, which provides valuable services to people by collecting and analyzing the information from drivers, vehicles and Telematics environments (e.g. traffic information, road condition, weather information, etc.), has been a hot research area in IT and automotive recently. As the information technology revolution brings more and more assistance for driver information processing becomes increasing important. Therefore, drivers' workload is very essential factor for safety driving in Telematics environment. For managing drivers' workload effectively, ETRI haven been developing vehicle and driver management system which can collect data from drivers and vehicle in realtime and analyze the data to manage drivers' and vehcles' status since 2007. This technology will apply to commercial vehicle telematics such as texi or truck management system in the future for increasing driving safety. In this presentation, I would like to explain what we had developed so far and discuss future direction.

  • In this paper, a telematics service platform, which supports the management and diagnosis of automobile and controls the automobile's convenience equipment is designed and implemented. Using the service platform, telematics software can be developed independent of the lower part of automobiles's network devices, each hardware devices, and wireless network devices. The platform classifies each device's service and provides it with the fixed form of API(Application Programming Interface). This API consists of the wireless connection for a mobile device, the CAN network for controlling an automobile, the receiving part of GPS data for location base service, and the message parser for different data formats of different network.

  • A small sized device with computing, communicating, sensing capability is changing our life. It will be deployed in the world and acquire a lot of data from the world. It is used for various applications such as military surveillance, environmental monitoring, structure health monitoring, building management, asset tracking, etc. In this paper we focus on USN middleware for asset tracking. A mobile asset is moving here and there within a specific area. The USN middleware tracks the mobile assets in real-time by using sensor nodes and notify their current positions to a user. To achieve the goal, the USN middleware provides some features related to the positions of mobile assets.. They are storing location data by using 3D indexing method, retrieving them by using spatio-temporal query, making trace of an asset, and retrieving the history data of an asset. In the paper, we developed USN middleware to adapt the requirements of asset tracking. It can help users increase the efficiency of their business related to mobile assets and make a valuable decision.

  • A demand on the spatial data management has been rapidly increased with the introduction and diffusion process of ITS, Telematics, and Wireless Sensor Network, and many different people use the digital map that offers various thematic spatial data. Spatial data for digital map can manage to tile-based and feature-based data. The existing tile-based digital map management systems have difficult problems of data construction, history management, and updating based on a spatial object. In order to solve these problems, this paper proposed the data model for the feature-based digital map management system that is designed for feature-based seamless map, history management, real-time updating of spatial data, and analyzed the validity and utility of the proposed model.

  • Telematics system includes the "vehicle remote diagnosis technology", "driving pattern analysis technology" which are commercially attractive in the real life. To implement those technologies, we need vehicle signal interface, vehicle diagnosis interface, accelerometer/yaw-rate sensor interface, GPS data processing, driving pattern analysis, and CDMA data processing technique. Based on these technologies, we analyze the error existence by diagnosing the EMS(Engine Management System), TMS(Transmission Management System), ABS/TCS, A/BAG in real time. And we are checking about a driving pattern and management of the vehicle, which are sent to the information center through the wireless communication. These database results will make the efficient vehicle and driver management possible. We show the effectiveness of our results by field driving test after completing the H/W & S/W design and implementation for vehicle remote diagnosis and driving pattern analysis.

  • The development of GIS and Location-Based Services requires a high-level database that will be able to allow real-time access to moving objects for spatial and temporal operations. MODB.MM is able to meet these requirements quite adequately, providing operations with the abilities of acquiring, storing, and querying large-scale moving objects. It enables a dynamic and diverse query mechanism, including searches by region, trajectory, and temporal location of a large number of moving objects that may change their locations with time variation. Furthermore, MODB.MM is designed to allow for performance upon main memory and the system supports the migration on out-of-date data from main memory to disk. We define the particular query for truncation of moving objects data and design two migration methods so as to operate the main memory moving objects database system and file-based location storage system with.

  • The high prices and lack of information for satellite images prevent researchers from studying remote sensing and most non-professional people can't have the simple and easy solutions for the manipulation of satellite images. 'Satellite Imagery Information Management Center'(SIMC) project which is promoted by ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) from 2002 to 2005 in Korea have the purpose to provide the satellite images freely to the public domain and the solutions for the above mentioned problems. Our project have the following five systems; Data Acquisition System, Data Preservation System, Integrated Solution System, Technology Development System, Operation Plan System. Data Acquisition System collects the satellite images such as LANDSAT, IKONOS, etc. Data Preservation System consists of database which registers the diverse satellite images. Integrated Solution System gives the user of public domain for the web service which search, order and transfer the satellite images. Technology Development System has the many processing technologies for the satellite images. Finally, the Operation Plan system has the role to plan the future of our SIMC project. In this paper, we will give the result of SIMC Project for each five systems during the fast four years from 2002 to 2005.
