Fashion Changes in Subcultural Styles (2) -Focus on the Teddy Boys Style- (하위문화맥락에서 본 패션형태의 변화(2) -Teddy Boys를 중심으로-)

  • This paper is the second part of a series of the research about the Teddy boy style which is to examine various fashion changes in subcultural styles in 1900s. The main concern of this research is to investigate the creation and meaning of the Teddy boy style, how it interacted with the elements of class and generation and how the materials needed by the group constructed and appropriated into the visible systematic cultural form of correspondence. The Teddy Boys are the first recognized members of the British youth culture, which is known as the new Edwardian because of their dress. They had created the concept of the "teenagers," which forms the basis of the sense of a "generation" in the 20th century. The Teds set the style that would be used and modified in the following generations. They adopted the Edwardian style of the upper class, and changed it into their own style by modifying it and adding to it some other elements. The Teddy boys style is a special version of the sartorial appropriation encountered in the sphere of the fashion history. It actually began immediately after the war by the upper class youth far from the working class neighborhood. In the late 1953, the elitist aura surrounding the Edwardian suit was suddenly shattered. Within just a few months, the Edwardian suit became a source of social anxiety and the focus of a symbolic battle. Although the Edwardian look had initially went back to the upper class root, it became a symbol of rootlessness. In appropriation of this image, The Teddy boys were also rejecting the sartorial conformism of the English working class with its modest tradition. In this respect, the Teds effected the ascent or fall of the working class in the area of fashion. The Teds dress was not a merely borrowed fashion, but was a bastard fashion in the form of American trends, the Zoot suit. At this time members of the working class possessed only work dress for the week and waist suits for the Sunday outings. Teds broke this pattern, and developed the working class dandyism of wearing clothes simply to show off. The results were that they succeeded in opening the teen market, and popularizing a working class style for the first time in British history. The Teds became the first British street style with ties music, and remain as an symbol of the rising of a new age of values and styles.f values and styles.

  • Teddy bear is a typical rag doll which has been loved by people all over the world for more than 100 years based on its cute and friendly image. In addition, as it has been together for a long time with us, it is considered as a friend of people with memories of all ages and sexes, not just animal doll. Teddy bear has been developing its appearance and character continually playing a role as the symbol of society and issues of an era beyond toys, however it still remains in the image of stuffed toys. Therefore, more advanced teddy bear characters should be created in line with the current environment and market conditions that are undergoing major changes based on the Internet and smart phones. Thus, the concept of the character and the recent development of the market were reflected and the meaning and current image of teddy bears were analyzed to develop new teddy bear stories, worldviews, and characters through design process. And it was created 3D characters, videos, and SNS channels through the developed 3D character design and motion design. Furthermore, we want to take a look at the direction in which Korea's character business can develop in accordance with global changes and suggest the possibility of entering as a character powerhouse.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF GRAZING BEHAVIOUR OF TEDDY GOATS VERSUS THALLI SHEEP

  • Experiment involved range vegetation classified into three major classes: Xerophytic trees, shrubs and grasses. Among them samples of major plant species were collected and analysed for chemical composition. The experimental animals 20 each of Thalli sheep and Teddy goats, located at Livestock Experiment Station Rakh Kharewala district Layyah (Pakistan) were randomly drawn from the main flock. The grazing pattern data were collected from one animal of each species. The observations regarding the grazing behaviour, breeding efficiency and carcass quality were also determined. It was found that overall preference index of Teddy goats were higher for Khabble (Cynodon dactylon) indicated by percent of the total number of bites made on different plant species, while the bites on Lumb (Aristida plumose), Mahabbat booti (Cenchrus biflorus), Dhaman (Cenchrus ciliaris) and Karera (Elionorus hirsutus) were found to be 1.28, 6.74, 0.32 and 3.87 percents. The browsing species as a whole were utilized more during the draught period. Among the grasses, sheep heavily utilized Khabble grass, with overall bite percentage of 89.27. Within browsing species Wan (Salvadora oleoides) and wind fallen dry leaves of Wan were considerably picked by the sheep showing 1.19 and 3.49 overall bite percentage respectively. The overall daily growth rates & dressing percentage for Teddy goats and Thalli sheep were 48.33, 39.00 and 51.00, 46.00 percent respectively. Moreover, among the experimental animals 50 percent goats exhibited signs of oestrus where as none of the sheep came into heat during the study period.

  • The mean birth weight and weaning weight estimated from 777 kids from 30 bucks of Teddy goats were $1.67{\pm}0.31$ and $8.50{\pm}2.18kg$, respectively. The estimates of heritability of birth weight and weaning weight by half sib correlation method were $0.048{\pm}0.022$ and $0.101{\pm}0.012kg$, respectively. The high heritability estimates of birth weight indicates that selection on the basis of individual's own record will be effective. The low estimates of heritability of weaning weight indicates more emphasis should be given to improve environmental conditions for better achievement.

  • We investigate the decaying incompressible MHD turbulence by including the effect of the expansion and contraction of background medium. In such an environment, incompressible MHD turbulence has two kinds of time scale. One is the eddy turn-over time (teddy), the other is the expansion/contraction time (texp-cntr). The turbulence is expected to behave differently according to the relationship between the two time scales. For instance, for teddy < texp-cntr, the turbulence would be decay more or less as in a static medium. On the other hand, for teddy > texp-cntr, the effects of expansion and contraction would be dominant. We examine the properties of turbulence in these two regime cases. Based on it, we derive a scaling for the time evolution of flow velocity and magnetic field. (i) In the decay effect dominant case, the velocity and magnetic field scale as $\sqrt{{\rho}v}{\sim}a^{-3}$, $b{\sim}a^{-2.5}$(expanding media) and $\sqrt{{\rho}v}{\sim}a^{-2}$, $b{\sim}a^{-1.5}$(contracting media). The total energy and residual spectra follow the $E^T_k{\sim}k^{-5/3}$, $E^R_k{\sim}k^{-7.3}$ in the inertial range. (ii) In the expanding and contracting dominant case, the velocity and magnetic field scale as $\sqrt{{\rho}v}{\sim}a^{-2.5}$, $b{\sim}a^{-2}$ (expanding/contracting media). The Kinetic and magnetic energy spectra follow the $E^K_k{\sim}a^{-5}$, $E^M_k{\sim}a^{-4}$. We have confirmed that scaling of velocity and magnetic filed is almost the same from the analytic estimates and computational models

Impact of Environmental Factors on Birth Weight in Teddy Goat

  • The data 1241 birth, weights of Teddy goats maintained at Livestock Production Research Institute, Bahadurnagar, Okara, Pakistan, during 1975-1990 were used for this study. The mean birth weight during study period ranged from $1.55{\pm}0.06$ to $1.78{\pm}0.09kg$ with and over all mean of $1.66{\pm}0.031kg$. It was found that year of birth, type of birth, sex of kid and age of dam had significant (p < 0.01) effects on birth weight while the effect of season was found to be non-significant. It was inferred that single born kids were significantly heavier than twins and twins were heavier than triplets. The mean values of birth weight for male and female kids were $1.70{\pm}0.032$ and $1.61{\pm}0.03kg$ respectively. The birth weight was found to be the highest in 8 year age group that was $1.82{\pm}0.016kg$ and the lowest in one year group $(1.55{\pm}0.02kg)$.

  • 본 연구에서는 스케치를 기반으로 한 3D 모델의 어셈블링 기법을 제안한다. 본 연구에서 제안하는 시스템은 Teddy 모델링 시스템[4]을 기본으로 하여, 다양하고 복잡한 형태의 오브젝트의 모델링을 보다 단순한 오브젝트들의 합성을 통해 해결한다. 제안하는 시스템은 두 개 이상의 3D 모델을 생성하는 멀티 페이지 기능을 제공하며, 두 개 이상의 메쉬를 조립하여 하나의 메쉬를 만드는 조립 모드를 제공한다. 여기에서 두 개의 메쉬를 보다 직관적이고 쉽게 조립하기 위해 스케치 기반의 객체 조합 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 시스템을 사용하면 복잡한 형태의 오브젝트를 보다 쉽고 빠르게 제작할 수 있다.

Interactive Human Intention Reading by Learning Hierarchical Behavior Knowledge Networks for Human-Robot Interaction

  • For efficient interaction between humans and robots, robots should be able to understand the meaning and intention of human behaviors as well as recognize them. This paper proposes an interactive human intention reading method in which a robot develops its own knowledge about the human intention for an object. A robot needs to understand different human behavior structures for different objects. To this end, this paper proposes a hierarchical behavior knowledge network that consists of behavior nodes and directional edges between them. In addition, a human intention reading algorithm that incorporates reinforcement learning is proposed to interactively learn the hierarchical behavior knowledge networks based on context information and human feedback through human behaviors. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through play-based experiments between a human and a virtual teddy bear robot with two virtual objects. Experiments with multiple participants are also conducted.

  • This study aims at providing useful fundamental information to re-establish the theories of modern fashion by examining the origination and genealogy of street style. The street styles focusing on caucasoid have a variety of genealogies such as western type, beat, teddy boy, hippie, skinhead, punk, neuron-mantic, indie kid, riot grrrl, grunge and techno cyber punk. In the same period, on the contrary, the streets styles focusing on negroid are zootie, hipster, modernist, rude boy, two-tone, rastafarian, funky, B-boy, fly girl, raggamuffine, bhangra, and acid jazz, which are seen as the culture of the large cities formed along Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean sea like England, America and Jamaica. These have root as the main fashion in western society. Ironically, most of the subculture concentrated on the whites were racists. Because of such a reason, the street styles have been formed as resistance culture that was unable to sympathize with their society and characteristics by distinguishing the whites and the colored people. Zootie or hipster that is one of the street fashion styles was formed in the 1940-50s, while the colored people who lived in the west Indies migrated to England or America. As a minimal modernist style called Ivy look in US, in that time, anti-culture formed by teenagers in whitey, teddy boy and mods fashion can be strictly different from the zootie and hipster. The colored people's street styles of the 1960s developed into aggressive and hard forms from the rude boy and two-tone while their resistance toward the whites was stronger. The rastafarian style researched the peak as the colored people's traditional ethnic characteristics or resistance intention for their freedom in the 1970s. From such aspects, the colored people tried to maintain their unique traditional characteristics. However, their individual values surged by the coming young generation excluded the colored people's characteristic street styles. Focusing on gender, violence and private success among their major concerns, the raga muffin style that represents multi-races and multi-cultures was formed. The jazz style in the 1990s showed cold post-modernistic eclecticism different from that of the 1940s-50s. Simultaneously, the various classes appeared their street styles by emphasizing on each personality. Now that we are living in multi-cultural society, a human race or nationalism concept is getting obscurer. There is no obvious boundary line in the differences between human race and its fashion.

  • In this paper, It is examined the patterns of fashion style in the history of subcultural clothing from 1930s to 1960s, focusing on the way each generation resisted the main stream through its styles. The subcultural styles examined and classified in this study are mainly British and American, with a few European and Western Indian styles included. This study understands subcultural style as a way of deviate or resistant expression within a society. The patterns of subcultural styles presented in this study are based on their form of resistance, and they are classified as follows: The pattern is revision, which tries to revise and change the given form by adding new elements. There are two kinds of revision, one is dressing up, which dresses for success, and the other is minimal dressing. Zoot, caribbean, western, teddy boy, rockabilly style are included here. As minimal dressing, there are hipster, beatnik, modernist, mod, rude boy style. In conclusion, it can be said that subcultural style puts the foremost importance on individual freedom. The new and significant development can be found in the fact that subcultural style emerges as a dominating force in our culture. This implies that the energy of a subculture is essential as a formative force of a fashion world.
