Mediating Effect of Meta-cognition between Locus of Control and Self-efficacy

  • Meta-cognition is the knowledge and cognition of cognitive phenomena, including the control of ones own memory, comprehension, and thought processes. Meta-cognition is similar to self-awareness, which is the understanding of oneself, and affects people's attitudes and behaviors. This study demonstrated the mediating effect of meta-cognition between internal locus of control and self-efficacy. Internal locus of control refers to the steady faith that any outcome is related to one's own efforts. Self-efficacy is a collection of personal strong belief that one individual can achieve his or her own goals. In this study, if a person has a tendency to adopt an internal locus of control, meta-cognition is improved, and self-efficacy can in turn be increased if meta-cognition is improved. This study conducted an empirical analysis through questionnaires conducted on 260 university students. The results of the research demonstrated that there is a highly positive correlation between meta-cognition, control position, and self-efficacy. In addition, this study emphasized that positive meta-cognition with internal locus of control can lead to positive attitudes and behaviors, and positive results.

  • Developed countries that have experienced decline in productivity due to the economic crisis in the past have come to recognize the smart factory as an important means to strengthen the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry due to the increase in labor costs, the avoidance of the manufacturing industry, and the resolution of the shortage of skilled manpower. The necessity of nurturing manpower for self-maintenance was felt through identifying factors for successful smart factory introduction by companies and providing smart factory education. Therefore, the effects of educational satisfaction and operational competency on self-efficacy as a parameter and self-efficacy as a parameter were analyzed using research models and hypotheses to determine whether there was an effect between job satisfaction as a dependent variable. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the mediating effect of self-efficacy and self-efficacy on job satisfaction was found to have significant effects on operational competency and self-efficacy as parameters, as well as educational satisfaction and operational competency. The implication of this study is that continuous education and innovation activities are important in order to increase the business performance of companies, and through this, the manufacturing competitiveness of SMEs can be improved.

The Effect of Nursing Information Literacy Competency and Self-Directed Learning Ability by Nursing Students who have Experienced Clinical Practice on Self-Efficacy (임상실습을 경험한 간호대학생의 간호정보활용역량과 자기주도학습능력이 자기효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study attempted to identify the factors affecting self-efficacy of nursing information utilization and self-directed learning ability of nursing students who experienced clinical practice. The study involved 189 fourth-year nursing students from two universities in one region. Data were collected between April 24 and May 12, 2024. The results of the study showed a significant positive correlation between nursing information utilization and self-directed learning ability, and a significant positive correlation between nursing information utilization and self-efficacy. Self-directed learning ability was the strongest predictor of self-efficacy, explaining 23.0% of the variance. This suggests that nursing students with high self-efficacy are good at self-directed learning ability and nursing information utilization ability. Therefore, the development of various educational programs to enhance self-efficacy is required.

Nutritional Knowledge, Dietary Habits and Dietary Self-Efficacy of Childcare Major Students in Daegu (대구 지역 보육전공 대학생의 영양 지식과 식습관 및 식이자기효능감)

  • The purpose of this study was to develope nutritional teaching materials and programs for childcare major students by determining interrelations between nutritional knowledge, dietary habits and dietary self-efficacy. Out of 400 questionnaires distributed to the students majoring in childcare in Daegu, 354 were analyzed by SPSS WIN 12.0 program. The results were summarized as follows. Childcare major students' distributions of nutritional knowledge, dietary habits and dietary self-efficacy were approximately all middle levels. Nutritional knowledge scores were influenced by age and self-assessment of health. Childcare major students' dietary habits were influenced by age, the degree of satisfaction of diet, and the degree of interest in diet. Dietary self-efficacy of childcare major students was influenced by gender, satisfaction of diet, whether or not they were on a diet, recognition of the need for nutritional knowledge, and the degree of interest in diet. Nutritional knowledge and dietary habits were positively correlated with dietary self-efficacy of childcare major students. In short, childcare major students with higher nutritional knowledge scores had higher dietary self-efficacy. Further, childcare major students who had a regular diet and balanced dietary habits had stronger dietary self-efficacy.

Effect of Self-efficacy and Yangsaeng on Quality of Life in Hemodialysis Patients (혈액투석환자의 자기효능감, 양생정도가 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The study was done to identify the effects of self-efficacy and Yansaeng on quality of life (QOL) of 208 renal hemodialysis patients in Korea. Methods: This study employed a descriptive correlation design. Data were collected by self-report questionnaire. The questionnaires consisted of self-efficacy, Yansaeng, and quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF). Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Cronbach's a, and multiple regression. Results: The self-efficacy was significantly correlated with exercise while Yangsaeng had significant correlation with age and exercise. QOL was significantly influenced by gender, cause of disease, and exercise. Self-efficacy and Yangsaeng positively correlated to QOL. Self-efficacy and Yangsaeng influenced on QOL in 34.9% of the hemodialysis patients. Conclusions: QOL of hemodialysis patients was influenced by self-efficacy and Yangsaeng, which can be utilized as a beneficial nursing intervention.

Effect of Design Thinking-based STEAM Program for Primary and Secondary Students (초·중등학생을 위한 디자인적 사고기반의 STEAM교육 프로그램의 효과)

  • This study aims to investigate the effect of design thinking-based STEAM program for primary and secondary students. The design thinking-based STEAM program dealt with advanced scientific technology issues and it consisted of 8 topics. A questionnaire was developed to explore the change of Science concept awareness, Interest, Self-efficacy, Career consciousness of students through the program. The questionnaire consisted of following 4 areas, such as 'Science concept awareness', 'Interest', 'Career consciousness' and 'Self efficacy'. Pre-post test was conducted to 75 primary and secondary students. As a result of analyzing post-test compared to pre-test, 'Science concept awareness', 'Career consciousness' and 'Self efficacy' of students were improved. And the 'Interest' wasn't changed significantly. Through this research, it can be suggested that the design thinking-based STEAM program can be useful at school education to improve the Science concept awareness, Career consciousness and Self-efficacy of primary and secondary students. It is also proposed that further research of the various areas of interest and other affective variables will be needed.

Predicting Online Learning Adoption: The Role of Compatibility, Self-Efficacy, Knowledge Sharing, and Knowledge Acquisition

  • Online learning is becoming ubiquitous worldwide because of its accessibility anytime and from anywhere. However, it cannot be successfully implemented without understanding constructs that may affect its adoption. Unlike previous literature, this research extends the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology with three well-known theories, namely compatibility, online self-efficacy, and knowledge sharing and acquisition to examine online learning adoption. A total of 264 higher education students took part in this research. Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling was used to evaluate the proposed theoretical model. The findings suggested that performance expectancy and compatibility were significant predictors of behavioral intention, whereas behavioral intention, facilitating conditions, and compatibility had a significant and direct effect on online learning's actual use. The results also showed that knowledge acquisition, knowledge sharing, and online self-efficacy were determinates of performance expectancy. Finally, online self-efficacy was a predictor of effort expectancy. The proposed model achieved a high fit and explained 47.7%, 75.1%, 76.1%, and 71.8% of the variance of effort expectancy, performance expectancy, behavioral intention, and online learning actual use, respectively. This study has many theoretical and practical implications that have been discussed for further research.

How Can Self Love Lead to Spying on Ex-Partners on Facebook? -The Effects of Ego Factors on Facebook Surveillance -

  • In this study, we attempted to identify the personality traits that influence one's likelihood to stalk an ex-partner on Facebook. Specifically, we focused on self-concept-related traits, given that the motivations for using social network sites (SNS) are highly associated with the concept of self. These include self-esteem, narcissism, and self-efficacy. To assess these factors, we controlled for extraneous variables while assessing the predictive power of personality traits, such as Facebook usage, length of the relationship, and time since the break-up. The results of a self-administered, web-based survey (N=207) showed that self-esteem, narcissism, and self-efficacy are all traits that can predict the stalking of an ex-partner on Facebook. More specifically, we showed a negative association between self-esteem and one's likelihood to stalk an ex-partner on Facebook, while it showed positive relationships between Facebook stalking and both narcissism and self-efficacy.

The Effects of Community-Based Self-Help Management Program by Strengthening Self-Efficacy of Post Stroke Elderly Patients (재가 뇌졸중 노인환자에서 자기효능증진 전략을 이용한 자조관리프로그램의 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of self-help management program which strengthens self-efficacy for post stroke elders who attend day care center in Chongju. One group pretest-posttest design was used, and the subjects were 7 post stroke elders with hemiparesis. The self-help management program consisted of 5 sessions and each session included group education on stroke, ROM exercise, recreation and self-care strategies. Those strategies for encouraging and reinforcing self-efficacy provided verbal persuasion, performance accomplishment and vicarious experience. All subjects were questioned before and after the program about ADLs, IADLs, self-efficacy, self-care behavior and depression. The analysis of data revealed that the program was effective to increase the IADLs, self-efficacy and self-care behavior. However, there was no significant difference between pre and post ADLs and depression. The results indicated that this program may be adopted to improve the physical and psychological function of post stroke elderly patients in community settings.

Evaluation of an Individualized Education before Discharge and Follow-up Telephone Consultation on Self-efficacy for Kidney Transplant Patients (신장이식환자의 자기효능전략을 이용한 퇴원 시 개별교육과 추후 전화상담의 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was to develop and evaluate an individualized education program based on self-efficacy for patients with kidney transplantation in Korea. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The participants consisted of 43 patients who underwent kidney transplants at one hospital in Seoul, from July 2012 to April 2013. The experimental group received an individualized education based on self-efficacy in the hospital and follow-up telephone consultation in the 2nd and 3rd week after discharge. The control group received a routine discharge education. Knowledge, self-efficacy, and compliance related to kidney transplant were measured and analyzed by frequency, average, Mann-Whitney U test, Fisher's exact test, independent t-test, and ${\chi}^2$-test using SPSS WIN 20.0. Results: Significant differences were found in self-efficacy between the experimental group and the control group. But no significant differences were found in knowledge and compliance between two groups. The scores of several items on monitoring health status in compliance were higher in the experimental group than those of the control group. Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrate the fact that an education program based in self-efficacy for patients with kidney transplant would be effective in improving self-efficacy and the ability to monitor their health status.
