  • In this paper, we introduce a sparse recovery algorithm applied to a radar signal model, based on the compressive sensing(CS), for the formulation of the radar signatures, such as high-resolution range profile(HRRP) and ISAR(Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar) image. When there exits missing data in observed RCS data samples, we cannot obtain correct high-resolution radar signatures with the traditional IDFT(Inverse Discrete Fourier Transform) method. However, high-resolution radar signatures using the sparse recovery algorithm can be successfully recovered in the presence of data missing and qualities of the recovered radar signatures are nearly comparable to those of radar signatures using a complete RCS data without missing data. Therefore, the results show that the sparse recovery algorithm rather than the DFT method can be suitably applied for the reconstruction of high-resolution radar signatures, although we collect incomplete RCS data due to unwanted interferences or jamming signals.

  • For the autonomous navigation of an unmanned ground vehicle in the rough terrain and combat, the dust environment should necessarily be overcome. Therefore, we propose a robust obstacle detection methodology using laser range sensor and radar. Laser range sensor has a good angle and distance accuracy, however, it has a weakness in the dust environment. On the other hand, radar has not better the angle and distance accuracy than laser range sensor, it has a robustness in the dust environment. Using these characteristics of laser range sensor and radar, we use laser range sensor as a main sensor for normal times and radar as a assist sensor for the dust environment. For fusion of laser range sensor and radar information, the angle and distance data of the laser range sensor and radar are separately transformed to the angle and distance data of virtual range sensor which is located in the center of the vehicle. Through distance comparison of laser range sensor and radar in the same angle, the distance data of a fused virtual range sensor are changed to the distance data of the laser range sensor, if the distance of laser range sensor and radar are similar. In the other case, the distance data of the fused virtual range sensor are changed to the distance data of the radar. The suggested methodology is verified by real experiment.

  • Modern radars such as the phase array radar can handle various tasks by generating a beam from a phased array antenna. Radar can be used for miscellaneous applications such as surveillance, tracking, missile guidance etc. Previous radar systems could handle only one task at a time. As such, multiple radars were required to perform simultaneous tasks. Multi-function radars can perform many tasks using only one radar system. However, the radar's resources are limited in this instance. To efficiently utilize time, it is necessary to properly schedule tasks in the radar's timeline. In this report, we investigate the efficiency of different scheduling tasks.

  • This paper describes the development of the ground penetrating radar (GPR) system using UWB impulse radar with 48 Channel array. GPR is an effective alternative technology to resolve th disadvantages of metal detectors. Metal detectors have a very low detection probability of non-metallic landmine and high false alarm rates caused by metallic materials under the ground. In this paper, we use the mono-cycle pulse waveform with about 600 ps pulse width to obtain high resolution landmine microwave images. In order to analyze performances of this system, we utilize indoor test facility that made up of rough sandy loam which representative Korean soil. The mimic landmine models of metal/non-metal and anti-tank/anti-personnel landmines buried in DMZ (demilitarized zone) of Korea are used to analyze the detection depth and the shape of the mines using microwave image.

  • To detect targets for autonomous navigation of unmanned ground vehicle, mounted sensors are required to work all-weather condition. In this point of view, the FMCW radar is quietly appropriate. In this paper, we present development results of target signal simulator for multi-beam type FMCW radar. A target signal simulator make pseudo target signals which simulates multiple moving targets. And we describe how to make hit information for each target in multi-beam type radar. The developed methods are utilized for target tracking device. Moreover it can be applied to similar target signal simulator.

  • In this paper, the effects of phase noise on the radar system were analyzed in terms of 3 point of view. The impact(s) on the compressed pulse waveform, the FMICW(Frequency Modulated Interrupted Continuous Wave) radar performance and the receiver sensitivity were investigated. From the investigation, it was indicated that the phase noise over 10 kHz offset frequency makes the side lobe level of compressed pulse worse. Also it was founded that the FMICW radar performance, especially at the noise level of range profile, is related to the phase noise. Finally, the investigation showed that the phase noise at local oscillator affects the receiver sensitivity.

  • This paper describes Data Acquisition & Analysis System(DAS) for analysis of the multi-function radar. There are various information - beam probing data, clutter map data, plot data, target tracking data, RT tracking data, radar signal processing data, interface data - this device saves. The most important thing of data analysis is that a researcher gets a view of the whole data. The DAS intergrates with all of the data and provides overall information on the time matters occur. This is very useful advantage for approaching the matter easily. System algorithms of multi-function radar are improved by using this advantage. As a result of, range blank region have fallen about 72% and it is able to keep track in jammer environment.

  • An architecture for multiple radar tracking systems can be broadly categorized according to the methods in which the tracking functions are performed : central-level tracking and distributed tracking. In the central-level tracking, target tracking is performed using observations from all radar systems. This architecture provides optimal solution to target tracking. In distributed tracking, tracking is performed at each radar system and the composite track information is formed through track fusion integrating multiple radar-level tracks. Track-to-track fusion and track-to-track association are required to perform in this architecture. In this paper, issues and recent research on the two tracking architectures are surveyed.

  • In this paper, we describe the design, fabrication, and test results of a W-band FMCW radar for the metal target detection under the ground clutter environment. In order to detect metal targets on the ground, we used a single cassegrain antenna with the beamwidth of $1.45^{\circ}$ which forms pencil-beam footprint on the ground. A log envelope detector was applied to improve radar performance in the severe ground clutter known as Weibull and log normal clutter. The designed FMCW radar can acquire altitude information from the ground clutter with $\sigma_0=-23dB$ at the height of 160m. The fabricated W-band FMCW radar transmits 11 dBm power and the dynamic range of the receiver is from -106dBm to -30dBm. The performances of the fabricated sensors were tested out in the fields and detected a car target of 200m apart on the grass.

  • This paper presents an analysis of the short-range radar noise adjusting the angle of the radar reflector for the handicapped aids and suggests a complementary filter that combines a moving average filter with a heuristic algorithm to remove the radar noise. It also shows the effectiveness of the suggested filter by comparing the experiments results between the Kalman filter and the suggested filter.
