A Multi-Dimensional Issue Clustering from the Perspective Consumers' Interests and R&D (소비자 선호 이슈 및 R&D 관점에서의 다차원 이슈 클러스터링)

  • The volume of unstructured text data generated by various social media has been increasing rapidly; therefore, use of text mining to support decision making has also been increasing. Especially, issue Clustering-determining a new relation with various issues through clustering-has gained attention from many researchers. However, traditional issue clustering methods can only be performed based on the co-occurrence frequency of issue keywords in many documents. Therefore, an association between issues that have a low co-occurrence frequency cannot be discovered using traditional issue clustering methods, even if those issues are strongly related in other perspectives. Therefore, issue clustering that fits each of criteria needs to be performed by the perspective of analysis and the purpose of use. In this study, a multi-dimensional issue clustering is proposed to overcome the limitation of traditional issue clustering. We assert, specifically in this study, that issue clustering should be performed for a particular purpose. We analyze the results of applying our methodology to two specific perspectives on issue clustering, (i) consumers' interests, and (ii) related R&D terms.

Reorganizing Social Issues from R&D Perspective Using Social Network Analysis

  • The rapid development of internet technologies and social media over the last few years has generated a huge amount of unstructured text data, which contains a great deal of valuable information and issues. Therefore, text mining-extracting meaningful information from unstructured text data-has gained attention from many researchers in various fields. Topic analysis is a text mining application that is used to determine the main issues in a large volume of text documents. However, it is difficult to identify related issues or meaningful insights as the number of issues derived through topic analysis is too large. Furthermore, traditional issue-clustering methods can only be performed based on the co-occurrence frequency of issue keywords in many documents. Therefore, an association between issues that have a low co-occurrence frequency cannot be recognized using traditional issue-clustering methods, even if those issues are strongly related in other perspectives. Therefore, in this research, a methodology to reorganize social issues from a research and development (R&D) perspective using social network analysis is proposed. Using an R&D perspective lexicon, issues that consistently share the same R&D keywords can be further identified through social network analysis. In this study, the R&D keywords that are associated with a particular issue imply the key technology elements that are needed to solve a particular issue. Issue clustering can then be performed based on the analysis results. Furthermore, the relationship between issues that share the same R&D keywords can be reorganized more systematically, by grouping them into clusters according to the R&D perspective lexicon. We expect that our methodology will contribute to establishing efficient R&D investment policies at the national level by enhancing the reusability of R&D knowledge, based on issue clustering using the R&D perspective lexicon. In addition, business companies could also utilize the results by aligning the R&D with their business strategy plans, to help companies develop innovative products and new technologies that sustain innovative business models.

Individual Interests Tracking : Beyond Macro-level Issue Tracking (거시적 이슈 트래킹의 한계 극복을 위한 개인 관심 트래킹 방법론)

  • Recently, the volume of unstructured text data generated by various social media has been increasing rapidly; consequently, the use of text mining to support decision-making has also been growing. In particular, academia and industry are paying significant attention to topic analysis in order to discover the main issues from a large volume of text documents. Topic analysis can be regarded as static analysis because it analyzes a snapshot of the distribution of various issues. In contrast, some recent studies have attempted to perform dynamic issue tracking, which analyzes and traces issue trends during a predefined period. However, most traditional issue tracking methods have a common limitation : when a new period is included, topic analysis must be repeated for all the documents of the entire period, rather than being conducted only on the new documents of the added period. Additionally, traditional issue tracking methods do not concentrate on the transition of individuals' interests from certain issues to others, although the methods can illustrate macro-level issue trends. In this paper, we propose an individual interests tracking methodology to overcome the two limitations of traditional issue tracking methods. Our main goal is not to track macro-level issue trends but to analyze trends of individual interests flow. Further, our methodology has extensible characteristics because it analyzes only newly added documents when the period of analysis is extended. In this paper, we also analyze the results of applying our methodology to news articles and their access logs.

  • This paper provides emerging technology issue and institutes of LED fusion industry based on the efficient quantitative analysis of a large amount of newspaper articles and papers for the decision-making of new business planning and core strategy. In addition, market opportunities and market entering strategies of main LED fusion industries are proposed. In the future, it is required to analyze and complement the quantitative analysis result by LED fusion industry experts and to build emerging issue database.

  • Main issue for embodiment of smart factory in small-medium manufacturing business(SMMB) is to whether might be successful or not in achieving a goal, exact materializing for smart factory related technology, and in seeking possible solutions for limited capacity to invest and develop technology. It is required for effective driving of manufacturing innovation 3.0 paradigm that ensures expertise to push forward technology policy based on value chain level of SMMB, and ensures detailed action plans by investment priority and development of core technology against global trend. This paper focuses to suggest countermeasure strategy and task through analysis of advanced technology and patent trend about industrial IoT(IIoT) and cyber physical system(CPS), and support embodiment of smart factory in underlying manufacturing innovation 3.0 scheme.

An Optimality-Theoretic Analysis of 'It'-Extraposition in English

  • The Extraposition phenomenon in English has been analyzed mainly through two approaches: a derivational approach under the Principles & Parameters framework (P&P) and a representational approach under the early Minimalist framework (MP). The first one tries to understand the phenomenon as a result of the movement of a Big Subject first to the end of a sentence which is then followed by the insertion of an expletive 'it' to the empty Subject position. On the other hand, the second one tries to understand it by way of assuming a Big Subject originally base-generated at the end of a sentence which is followed by the insertion of an expletive 'it' to the empty Subject position. The two approaches, however, are not free from theoretical defects at all: the full derivational approach was under controversy in terms of (1) the failure of the Binding Theory and (2) its inability to suggest anything about the marginal reading issue. On the while, the representational approach has been argued (1) to violate the thematic hierarchy that should be kept in D-structure, and (2) to be also unable to suggest the slightest difference in marginal reading issue as the first one. In this paper I focus mainly on analyzing the 'It'-Extraposition phenomenon in the Optimality Theory. I will show that by way of (i) some newly developed constraints such as Subj., and AHSubj. and (ii) a constraint hierarchy of Subj.>>AHSubj., the controversies of 'It-Extraposition' such as (1) the analysis of construction and (2) the very closely related issue of 'marginal reading issue' can be explained properly.

  • This is to study that effects in a company's success with using the new information technology. Here It was confirmed that an existing information technology resulted in a positive bias in managers' thought of new technology had been effected in success. This is more stronger among managers who had greater amounts of experience with the existing technology and among managers whose companies did not engage in proactive information seeking about new information technologies. Even though it has demonstrated that manager's understanding of a strategic issue have and important impact on organizational actions, the research on strategic issue has gotten little attention to the determinants of those interpretations. This suggests that an prior experience of information technology will be affected in manager's strategic issue about applying new IT.

Suggestions for SME Policy for Sustainable Development

  • This article is a suggestion for SME policy in Korea for the attention of the senior policy-experiencer of the whole nation, the Advisor to the President of Korea. This article is written from the perspective of technology policy experts, not SME experts. In spite of many SME policies, the issue of SMEs in Korea is worsening, not being resolved. Technology-oriented policies are effective for each company, but the role of SMEs is gradually decreasing in the Korean economy. Reflecting on this fact, I would like to suggest measures that include long-term, but social as well as educational. The solution I suggested is coexistence since sustainable growth through SMEs is not just an economic or social issue. It is a matter of survival. I propose four types of coexistence: corporate, local, human, and coexistence with nature. Getting coexistence works requires a change in social norms that mobilize even education.

  • Recent paradigm in technology shifts from object-based technology to environment-based technology. Issue here is interaction among humans and the world around humans, which is natural and artificial "space." Holistic interactions based on "Mom (embodiment)" suggest a good starting point for exploring this issue. Soft engineering, "Mom," holistic interactions, tangible space, ubiquitous computing, science of emotion, and interactive media are key concepts in interactive technology. Interactive tangible media "iT_Media" is proposed to explore and synthesize these ideas. Interactive technology initiative (ITI) is an interdisciplinary research group to search for the proper technology and the proper way of implementing technology: "interactive technology" or "soft engineering." Some experimental activities conducted by ITI are presented in this session, "Interactive Technology."
