  • Constructionarium Ltd is a not-for-profit organisation which delivers a residential, experiential, immersive learning opportunity to university students from across the built environment education sector. Since 2002, the Constructionarium education model has been available to students in engineering, construction management and architecture at a purpose built, 19-acre multi-disciplinary training facility in Bircham Newton, England simulating real site life and reflecting site processes, practices and health and safety requirements. The unique approach of Constructionarium puts experiential learning and sustainability at the heart of everything. In a week, students develop a practical understanding of the construction process, develop transferable skills, build a team and are exposed to the latest in sustainable technologies. Experiential learning is what differentiates a Constructionarium project from regular field trips or site visits. At Constructionarium the focus is on learning by participation rather than learning through theory or watching a demonstration. The projects cannot be replicated in a classroom or on campus. Using the hands-on construction of scaled down versions of iconic structures from around the world, students learn that it requires the involvement of the whole construction team to successfully complete their project. Skills such as communication, planning, budgeting, time management and decision making are woven into a week-long interrelationship with industry professionals, academic mentors and trades workers. Working together to enhance transferable skills brings the educational environment into the reality of completing an actual construction project handled by the students. Constructionarium has used this transformational learning model to educate thousands of students from all over the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia. Texas A&M University in the United States has sent multiple teams of students from its Department of Construction Science every operational year since 2016.

  • With the development of science and technology, modern submarines are equipped with high technology devices and multi-functioned precise armaments, consequently, acquisition cost as well as maintenance cost of the submarines are getting higher and higher. However, tight defense budget forces navy to significantly reduce military operating and maintenance costs. In this study, the maintenance and operating costs of submarine Jangbogo-II are estimated through M&S (Modeling and simulation) methodologies in order to reasonably and consistently work out the requirement verification system of Jangbogo-II. The maintenance and operating costs of Jangbogo-II along the next 25 years are estimated as 312.65 billion won via engineering analysis methods while 312.69 billion won from PRICE Model, which shows only 0.04 billion won differences as a whole. This study is expected to be able to provide meaningful decision making data for not only short and/or mid term operating planning but military budgeting.

  • In container terminals ship loading plan for efficient loading is made before the ship arrives. But after the ship arrives sometimes real loading state of the ship is different from planned loading state. Or sometimes the plan is not available. Hence ship loading plan must be adjusted immediately and that algorithm must be studied. In this study we organize the situations said before. And we present realtime ship loading plan method. The method is suitable for the situations, rational, and immediately able to use.

  • The purpose of this study was to subdivide the shoes market in Korea and to evaluate the size and competitive strength of each segment. In order to implement the purpose of this study, the data of 300 respondents were analyzed using CBC(Choice-Based Conjoint measurement) and mixture model. The part-worth utilities were then used to predict the impact of price change on the choice probability using the legit model. As a result, the mixture model showed the optimal segments number and the shoes market in Korea was divided into 4 segments. Each segment was identified by distinctive characteristics such as brands, price and demand for comfortable shoes. Also, as a result of grasping the competitive structure and the competitive strength by sub-markets, one group was sensitive to price according to each competitive situation, whereby the choice probability was greatly influenced, and the other group on the contrary. This study made it clear that discrimination between brands whose profits Increase sharply if price is lowered and brands whose profits do not increase even if price is lowered can help brand managers with their decision-making on price lowering.

  • Purpose: The present study was done to discover the structure of universal actual experiences 'Considering tomorrow' of health and quality of life among North Korean refugees in terms of the socio-cultural context of South Korea. Method: The research question was 'what is the structure of the actual experience of 'Considering tomorrow?', which was examined based on the Parse's human becoming research method. Five North Korean adult refugees were recruited from a National Reconciliation Committee in Seoul/Incheon. The data was gathered from dialogues and collected from February, 2006 to November, 2006. Results: The structures found in this study were: 'hope for future life by taking responsibility and having harmony with South Koreans, by forming an integrated identification; having a chance for positive engagement, by attaining human freedom and hope; feeling respected, by assimilating self to the new world; getting freedom back, by facing a new challenge and preparing self for a new social role; overcoming cultural differences with fortified hardiness for survival, by making a decision for a life course with individual growth. In addition, conceptual integration was that 'Considering tomorrow is transforming the enabling-limiting values'. Conclusion: Health professionals need to know North Korean refugees' psychological difficulties, expectations of treatment, help seeking behavior, and expectations from mainstream culture. Additionally, understanding North Korean refugees' needs for reality, health education and a multi-disciplinary team approach are necessary to improve their health.

  • Potential and capabilities of GIS in planning and decision-making is widely known as an experimental tool, but its existence in real-world application is yet to realize. GIS originated in the field of cartography and even at today it is mainly used as a tool for map production. Number of reasons could bring forward for this shortcoming. Limited real-world applications could be a significant one among them. This paper describe an attempt to use GIS technology in Lao PDR where a study team was involved in formulating a Master Plan for national healthcare system. A database was created for the whole country with spatial and descriptive data gathered from various sources. Attempt was made to demonstrate the potential of GIS by using the database for identifying healthcare status, distribution of resources, recognizing deprived areas and locating areas for future investments based on accessibility and social status. The approach justified the investment on a GIS system and introducing the system in the planning sector from grass-root level to central level.

  • The purpose of this study is to prove the global OTT, Netflix's organizational resilience (OR). For this, we review previous literatures regarding Netflix's OR and the theoretical logic of the OR. Then, we investigate Netflix's organizational culture (OC), corporate structure and business strategies based on the five levers of the OR. As a result, the first lever, the coordination makes Netflix to get rid of the inner wall by creating Netflix terms like 'sunshining,' and 'postmortem,' which makes their employees extraordinarily candid with each other. The second lever, the cooperation provides employees with understanding customers by sharing company and service information openly and broadly through transparent board system, billboard advertising, etc. The third lever, the clout allows Netflix to encourage independent decision-making by their employees. Netflix customers are under scrutiny and served 24/7 via live chat or phone by supporting a high-performance workplace. The fourth lever, the capabilities are related to Netflix's keeping highly effective people and it establishes a culture of highly motivated employees. The "dream team" policy is run by what is known as the "keeper test." The last lever, the connections make Netflix to forge external strategic partnership to stay agile. There is no rule for partnering with key content producers by allowing creative freedom to them.

  • Although most patients prefer dying at home, patients whose condition rapidly becomes critical need care in the intensive care unit (ICU), and it is rare for them to die at home with their families. Therefore, interest in hospice and palliative care for patients in the ICU is increasing. Hospice and palliative care (PC) is necessary for all patients with life-threatening diseases. The following patients need palliative care in the ICU: patients with chronic critical illnesses who need tracheostomy, percutaneous gastrostomy tube, and extracorporeal life support; patients aged 80 years or older; stage 4 cancer patients; patients with specific acute diseases with a poor prognosis (e.g., anoxic brain injury and intracerebral hemorrhage requiring mechanical ventilation); and patients for whom the attending physician expects a poor prognosis. There are two PC models-a consultative model and an integrative model-in the ICU setting. Since these two models have advantages and disadvantages, it is necessary to apply the model that best fits each hospital's circumstances. Furthermore, interdisciplinary decision-making between the ICU care team and PC specialists should be strengthened to increase the provision of hospice and palliative care services for patients expected to have poor outcomes and their families.
