  • In the research of brain computer interface (BCI) technology, one of the big problems encountered is how to deal with some people as called the BCI-illiteracy group who could not control the BCI system. To approach this problem efficiently, we investigated a kind of spectral EEG characteristics in the prior resting state in association with BCI performance in the following BCI tasks. First, spectral powers of EEG signals in the resting state with both eyes-open and eyes-closed conditions were respectively extracted. Second, a convolution neural network (CNN) based binary classifier discriminated the binary motor imagery intention in the BCI task. Both the linear correlation and binary prediction methods confirmed that the spectral EEG characteristics in the prior resting state were highly related to the BCI performance in the following BCI task. Linear regression analysis demonstrated that the relative ratio of the 13 Hz below and above the spectral power in the resting state with only eyes-open, not eyes-closed condition, were significantly correlated with the quantified metrics of the BCI performance (r=0.544). A binary classifier based on the linear regression with L1 regularization method was able to discriminate the high-performance group and low-performance group in the following BCI task by using the spectral-based EEG features in the precedent resting state (AUC=0.817). These results strongly support that the spectral EEG characteristics in the frontal regions during the resting state with eyes-open condition should be used as a good predictor of the following BCI task performance.

  • The balanced scorecard(BSC) framework is a tool for strategic decision making and task support that aims for efficiency in performance management and strategy execution. BSC evolved from an old performance management practice, which tended to be limited to a finance-only perspective, to a new system of corporate management looking at corporate tasks from a multi-dimensional, future-inclined value perspective. This form of BSC amounts to a framework capable of driving management innovation and renewing the ways in which companies conceive their strategy and perform their operations. Since BSC draws integrally on user participation, it can be expected that users' satisfaction with BSC systems is an important factor in systems' success or failure. However, previous studies of the BSC system have not yet considered it as a theoretical model, specifically examining BSC system and task characteristics. To date, only a few studies have put forward plans for the implementation and use of BSC systems, and these studies have the common limitation of failing to consider the circumstances or theoretical structure of the companies for which a BSC system is being proposed. This paper then begins to fill some of this gap by characterizing the BSC system from the perspective of contingency theories. Contingency theories can be particularly useful in the Korean context in exploring how different companies use the BSC system in ways determined by their unique environmental characteristics, which may also determine the performance factors behind the application of a company's particular BSC system. In order to provide concrete suggestions for implanting and using the BSC system from a contingency theory perspective, this study sets out to determine the relationships between the contingency variables affecting BSC system performance and BSC system property variables(in given cases) through an empirical analysis. The study takes into account the perspective from which contingency theory is to be applied in individual cases, sets contingency and BSC property variables with reference to the BSC system user's environment and BSC system's character, and frames initial hypotheses concerning corporate structure and environmental variables and BSC system performance variables with reference to previous studies. A survey was then conducted on users in Korean companies that have implemented the BSC system in order to verify the research model and understand results.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine, at the team level, the relationship between shared leadership and team work engagement and team psychological capital which have rarely been introduced into academic leadership research in Korea. This study tested the impact of shared leadership on team work engagement and the mediating role of team psychological capital between the two variables. And also, this study tested moderating role of task characteristics between shared leadership and team psychological capital. A total of 421 employees of 100 teams in 16 companies in South Korea participated in this study. The SPSS 23.0 statistical program was used in this study to analyze and statistically process the collected survey data. The result showed that high level of shared leadership positively influence team work engagement and team PsyCap works as mediator in the relationship between shared leadership and team work engagement. This results means that shared leadership is a crucial factor to facilitate team's psychological capital toward team's work engagement. However, Task characteristics had no moderating effect between shared leadership and team PsyCap. Finally, theoretical and practical implications of the study results have been discussed along with limitations and future direction of the study.

  • This paper reviews issues and methodological status of system dynamics and suggest some research agenda for its development in Korea. After reviewing some characteristics of system dynamics approach, including dynamic feedback perspective and endogenous point of view, the paper pointed out methodological characteristics of system dynamics. It seems to be the most notable characteristics of System Dynamics that it use both quantitative and qualitative approach in explaining and modelling reality. Besides, System Dynamicists rely more heavily on refutationism than instrumentalism and this allows System Dynamicists follow more strict way of scientific inquiry. For the development of System Dynamics in Korean academic circle, developing training program and curriculum, networking scattered System Dynamicist all over the country, would be the most important task.

  • The purpose of this study was three-folded to suggest the Simplifying Conditions Method (SCM) as a means of task analysis and sequencing of instructional content, to develop teaching-learning materials by analyzing part of the geological time scale of the earth science and finally to analyze the effectiveness of this method. SCM began by simplifying a complex task into the basic components by eliminating various complexities, which produced a simple representative of the entire task. The next step was to relax conditions on the basic version one by one, thereby gradually introducing progressively more complex tasks to the students. This sequential strategy enabled students to understand the task holistically and to acquire authentic skills from very onset of the course. Moreover, Early mastery of skills enhances the effectiveness and efficiency of instruction. The result of this study revealed that instruction through SCM was more effective in developing students' self-directed learning characteristics and academic achievement than instruction through sequential task analysis methodology.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare rock descriptors used by students in two different task contexts and to suggest the characteristics of a task suitable for learning of rocks. Twenty-four 3rd grade students were given descriptive and inferential tasks about three types of sedimentary rocks, and the rock descriptors used by the students were analyzed from a resources-based view (RBV) about students' conceptions. The result showed that the number of students using everyday descriptors to describe properties of the rocks and the frequency of using the everyday descriptors decreased in the inferential task. It was also revealed that the students using disciplinarily more appropriate descriptors were more likely to infer the process of rock formation in scientifically valid ways. By contrast, student inferences lacking scientific validity were mostly those that used everyday descriptors to express properties of the rocks. Based on these findings, it was concluded that inferential tasks would be suitable for student learning of rocks which is to be authentic to the essential features of earth science practices.
