  • A pose estimation process from medical images is calculating locations and orientations of objects obtained from Computed Tomography (CT) volume data utilizing X-ray images from two directions. In this process, digitally reconstructed radiograph (DRR) images of spatially transformed objects are generated and compared to X-ray images repeatedly until reasonable transformation matrices of the objects are found. The DRR generation and image comparison take majority of the total time for this pose estimation. In this paper, a fast DRR generation technique based on GPU parallel computing is introduced. A volume ray-casting algorithm is explained with brief vector operations and a parallelization technique of the algorithm using Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) is discussed. This paper also presents the implementation results and time measurements comparing to those from pure-CPU implementation and open source toolkit.

  • The MIA 1906, s.78(4) provides that it is the duty of the assured and his agents, in all cases, to take such measures as may be reasonable for the purpose of averting or minimising a loss. In many cases the statutory duty will be unimportant, since rights, duties and liabilities declared by the Act or implied into marine insurance contracts by law may be modified by agreement, and many contracts contains a sue and labour clause which effectively reproduces and/or to modifies the statutory duty. The effect of such contractual provisions will, of course, be a matter of construction, though modern sue and labour clauses tend to reflect the principles contains in section 78. However, it must not be assumed that the terms of all contractual sue and labour clauses are, or will remain, identical, either with each other or with the statutory duty. The purpose of this study is to clarify the ambit of sue and labour.

  • Objective: To build a basis of strategy for development of herbal drug as a preventive medicine during dynamic innovation of Korean Oriental medicine. Methods: Via telephone interview, 101 subjects prescribed with deer antler were asked to provide us their reflections about five topics: points of satisfaction, physical improvement, improved symptoms, annual times of taking restorative herbal medicine, and aspect of complaints about taking the herbal drugs. Results: Around 68% of subjects usually take a restorative herbal medicine with deer antler less than once per year. 63% of subjects were satisfied with herbal restoratives. They answered the physical energetic feeling (52%) as the most benefit while expensive price (43%) as the most frequent complaint. Conclusion: Scientifically designed restorative herbal medicine needs to be developed for competitiveness of Korean Oriental medicine as a preventive medicine. In addition, more reasonable price and confirmative data for safety and quality control should be equipped in Korean Oriental medical market.

  • This paper presents the method of sail-resistivity estimation using the backpropagation(BP) neural network. Existing estimation programs are expensive, and their estimation methods need complex techniques and take much time. Also, those programs have not become well spreaded in Korea yet. Soil resistivity estimation method using BP algorithm has studied for the reason mentioned above. This paper suggests the method which differs from expensive program or graphic technology requiring many input stages, complicated calculation and professional knowledge. The equivalent earth resistivity can be presented immediately after inputting apparent resistivity through the personal computer with a simplified Program without many Processing stages. This program has the advantages of reasonable accuracy, rapid processing time and confident of anti users.

  • Coordination in natural language is often syntactically explained by the rule schema X \longrightarrow X′ and X", where X′ and X" refer to expressions of a like syntactic type. While this schema does explain a lot of instances of coordination, it is well known that this schema also gives rise to serious structural ambiguity, leading not only to numerous unintended interpretations but also to a high degree of unnecessary computational complexity. In order to identify intended interpretations, we need to take into account a number of clues at all the levels of morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics/discourse. In this paper, we propose, with an accompanying data analysis, principles of symmetry and coherency for an effective and reasonable identification of intended interpretations from coordination-bearing sentences.

  • Recently infrared cameras have been widely used to diagnosis degradation status of the power substitution system. At the place of high magnetic field, however, electronic parts of infrared camera take a place problem that is not reasonable working due to high magnetic field. In this paper, technique of design for reflector is proposed to perform degradation diagnosis without damage of infrared camera in a power substation system including the rectifier that is able to impact to the infrared camera by high magnetic field.

  • Several formulae have been proposed to estimate the viscous resistance of ships by wake surveys. Both the total head and the velocity should be measured. The integration of he total head loss shows over estimations of the resistance by about 10%. Therefore measurements of the velocity are required, which need much more works. A simple method is suggested in this paper to take accout of the velocity-defect from the measured total head. It gives reasonable estimations of the viscous resistance within the experimental accuracy. Experimental data of a low-drag body of revolution in the wind-tunnel and Series 60 model, CB=0.6 in the tank are used to verify the suggested formula.

  • This pilot study aimed to set up a reasonable method for measuring body segments parameters and finding out some useful body segments parameters to diagnose Sasang constitutions. In this study, we have tried to take a secure effort in measuring and diagnosing of Sasang constitutions based on the consensus among Sasang constitution experts. And we also have tried to find out some useful body segments parameters based on the actual data. We measured 9 clinically meaningful body lengths specified by Sasang constitution experts and analyzed these parameters statistically according to each Sasang constitution. We have found that Taeeumin female's ratio of foot length to height was significantly large and Soyangin's ratio was significantly small, but more data are needed to confirm this finding.

  • Traditionally, the Process Planning problems and the Scheduling problems have been considered as independent ones. However, we can take much advantages by solving the two problems simultaneously. In this paper, we deal with the enlarged problem that takes into account both the process planning and the scheduling problems. And we present a solution algorithm for the problem assuming that the given process plan data is represented by AND/OR graph. A mathematical model(mixed ILP model) whose objective is the minimization of the makespan, is formulated. We found that we can get the optimal solutions of the small-size problems within reasonable time limits, but not the large-size problems. So we devised an algorithm based on the decomposition strategy to solve the large-scale problems (realistic problems) within practical time limits.

  • In construction work, safety accidents often occur in combination with unstable physical and human conditions during preparation and execution of work. In Korea, the accident rate is higher to that of any country in the world. Therefore, it is necessary to take measures by fundamental prescription. In this paper, in the case of construction safety management, we tried to find a reasonable alternative through a questionnaire survey to apply to subcontracting and small-scale construction. In conclusion, workers who are well aware of the task could be able to reduce the accident rate by deploying them as safety management officers after receiving the training.
