Mahalanobis Taguchi System을 이용한 사출 공정의 최적설계 (Optimal Design of Injection Molding Process using the Mahalanobis Taguchi System)

  • Warpage is a major defect frequently found in the injection molding process, and the reduction of warpage is a very challenging problem because of the uncontrollable factors, such as variations in the process parameters. Without any countermeasure against these noises, attempts to reduce the defects often lead to failure. In this research, a new robust design methodology, based on the Mahalanobis Taguchi System (MTS) to reduce warpage, is presented. The MTS performs the orthogonal array experiments and uses the signal-to-noise (SN) ratio of the Mahalanobis distance as a performance metric. The validity of the proposed method is illustrated through an optimal design of the injection molding process of a CPU base plate.

  • Robust design is an approach to reducing performance variation of quality characteristic values in quality engineering. Taguchi has an idea that mean and variation are handled simultaneously to reduce the expected loss in products and processes. Taguchi parameter design has a great deal of advantages but it also has some disadvantages. The various research efforts aimed at developing alternative methods. In the Taguchi parameter design, the product-array approach using orthogonal arrays is mainly used. However, it often requires an excessive number of experiments. An alternative approach, which is called the combined-array approach, was suggested by Welch et. al. ( 1990) and studied by others. In these studies, only single quality characteristic was considered. In this paper we propose how to simultaneously optimize multiple quality characteristics using desirability function when we used the combined-array approach to assign control and noise factors. An example is illustrated to show the difference between the Taguchi's product-array approach and the combined-array approach.

Robust Design of Credit Scoring System by the Mahalanobis-Taguchi System

  • Credit scoring is widely used to make credit decisions, to reduce the cost of credit analysis and enable faster decisions. However, traditional credit scoring models do not account for the influence of noises. This study proposes a robust credit scoring system based on Mahalanobis-Taguchi System (MTS). The MTS, primary proposed by Taguchi, is a diagnostic and forecasting method using multivariate data. The proposed approach's effectiveness is demonstrated by using real case data from a large Taiwanese bank. The results reveal that the robust credit scoring system can be successfully implemented using MTS technique.

크리깅 근사모델을 이용한 마이크로 자이로스코프의 구조설계 (A Structural Design of Microgyroscope Using Kriging Approximation Model)

  • The concept of robust design was introduced by Dr. G. Taguchi in the late 1940s, and his technique has become commonly known as the Taguchi method or the robust design. In this research, a robust design procedure for microgyroscope is suggested based on the kriging and optimization approaches. The kriging interpolation method is introduced to obtain the surrogate approximation model of true function. Robustness is calculated by the kriging model to reduce real function calculations. For this, objective function is represented by the probability of success, thus facilitating robust optimization. The statistics such as mean and variance are obtained based on the reliable kriging model and the second-order statistical approximation method.

  • This paper proposes an optimal design to improve the performance of the intake system by reducing the noise. We adapt the Taguchi method and column merging method for the above design. At the first stage of the design, the length and radius of each component of the current intake system are selected as control factors. Then the $L^{18}$ table of orthogonal array is used to get the effective main factors. At the second stage, the $L^{16}$ table of orthogonal array and the column merging method is combined to analyze subdivided significant factors. We know that the robust design with the column merging method provides better design for noise of intake system than the robust design itself.

  • Wood-PP composite materials were prepared by Taguchi robust design method with L9 orthogonal array to optimize experimental conditions. Tensile strength of the composite materials was considered as the main properties. Amount of wood powder and modifier of resin were chosen as significant parameters. As the result of Taguchi analysis in this study, the amount of wood powder was the most influencing parameter on the increase of tensile strength. The optimal conditions were determined and these results were good agreement with data analyzed by Taguchi robust design method.

  • The effect of manufacturing parameters such as molding and curing conditions on friction characteristics of friction materials was studied using a pad-on-disk type friction tester. Friction materials containing 15 ingredients were investigated for an optimal manufacturing condition for the best friction characteristics employing Taguchi robust experimental design. The main effects were different for mechanical properties and friction characteristics and were strongly influenced by manufacturing conditions. An optimum manufacturing condition was obtained to achieve the best friction characteristics concerning mechanical properties(hardness, porosity, wear resistance), friction stability, and change of rotor temperature.

  • 본 논문에서는 설계변수의 불확실성을 고려한 BLDC 전동기의 코깅 토크 저감 설계를 수행하기 위하여 개선된 다구찌법을 이용한 효율적인 강건 최적설계 기법을 제안하였다. 일반적인 강건 최적설계 문제를 처리할 때 발생하는 기존 다구찌법의 단점을 해결하기 위하여, 벌칙함수와 최적수준 탐색기법이 새로이 도입되었다. 제안된 설계기법의 타당성을 검증하기 위하여 5 kW, 정격속도 2,300 rpm, 정격 토크 20 Nm의 전기자동차 구동용 BLDC 전동기의 코깅 토크 저감을 위한 강건 설계가 수행되었다. 또한 도출된 설계결과를 코깅 토크, 정격 토크 및 토크 리플에 대해 개념설계와 결정론적 최적설계 된 전동기들의 결과와 비교하였다.

  • The specific noise level of 18 rotary compressor mufflers were measured and these data were analyzed by the Taguchi robust design method and the neural network. The optimal design value obtained by the neural network generally showed good agreement with that by the Taguchi method. The effects of eight important design variables on the specific noise level were discussed.

  • A computer-aided robust design (CARD) technique is developed to search for the design variables, optimal as well as robust in the sense of Taguchi method. The CARD technique can effectively handle inequality problems by employing the variable penalty method, and dynamic problems with many design variables and/or with mixed discrete and continuous variables. It is also capable of providing contributions of each design variables to the object funtion and information for future designs. As the illustrative examples, two dynamic systems, engine mounting system and in-line feeder, are treated.
