  • In this paper, Air-interface protocols of ISO 18000-6 Type A and B applied to RFID system in UHF band are analyzed, and those algorithms are realized. Also, the improved anticollision algorithms for the Type A and B of ISO 18000-6 protocol are proposed and the performances are compared. As the results, reduction ratio of total tag recognition time of the improved ISO 18000-6 Type A algorithm is 35.2 % for 100 tags and 24.3% for 1000 tags with respect to standard algorithm, respectively. And the reduction ratio of the improved ISO 18000-6 Type B algorithm is 6.0% for 100 tags and 6.6% for 1000 tags. Therefore, the improved anticollision algorithm proposed in this paper is the advanced method improving the performance of tag recognition in the RFID system.

  • In many Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) applications, the reader recognizes the tags within its scope repeatedly. For these applications, some algorithms such as the adaptive query splitting algorithm (AQS) and the novel semi-blocking AQS (SBA) were proposed. In these algorithms, a staying tag retransmits its ID to the reader to be identified, even though the ID of the tag is stored in the reader's memory. When the length of tag ID is long, the reader consumes a long time to identify the staying tags. To overcome this deficiency, we propose a slot allocated blocking anti-collision algorithm (SABA). In SABA, the reader assigns a unique slot to each tag in its range by using a slot allocation mechanism. Based on the allocated slot, each staying tag only replies a short data to the reader in the identification process. As a result, the amount of data transmitted by the staying tags is reduced greatly and the identification rate of the reader is improved effectively. The identification rate and the data amount transmitted by tags of SABA are analyzed theoretically and verified by various simulations. The simulation and analysis results show that the performance of SABA is superior to the existing algorithms significantly.

  • Tag collection is one of the major functions in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems. IS0/IEC 18000-7 defines the tag collection algorithm using the anti-collision algorithm, based on the framed slotted ALOHA for active RFID systems. However, it has inefficiency problems that reduce tag collection performance by deciding non-optimum slot size or using point-to-point commands to put collected tags to sleep. In this paper, we propose two mechanisms to overcome the inefficiency problems and improve tag collection performance: 1) a new slot size decision mechanism to allow the reader to choose the optimum slot size flexibly and 2) a broadcast-based sleep mechanism to put collected tags to sleep effectively. We also implemented an active RFID system, composed of an active RFID reader and multiple tags, and the reader is designed to maximize tag collection performance when the proposed mechanisms are applied. In experiments, we evaluated the tag collection performance using one reader and 50 tags in the real-world environment. The experimental results show that when two mechanisms are applied and the initial number of slots is chosen appropriately, the performance of the proposed tag collection algorithm is greatly enhanced, compared with that of the standard.

  • In the RFID system, the reader transmits a query message to tags in order to identify a unique ID of tags within its detection range. The procedures for arbitrating a collision is essential because the multiple tags can response simultaneously in the same to the query of the Reader. This procedure is known as conflict resolution algorithm and it is a key technology in the RFID system. In this paper, we proposed a variable bits M-ary QT algorithm based on Manchester coding techniques. The proposed algorithm use the location information of the collision bits in the reader and tags. The proposed algorithm can reduce the number of the query-response cycle because it is capable of recognizing discontinuous bits and a variable number of bits. From computer simulation, the proposed method give better performance than the conventional M-ary QT techniques in terms of response, recognition efficiency, communication overhead.

  • RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) technology, automatic identification and data capture technologies in ubiquitous computing is an essential skill. Low-cost Radio Frequency Identification tags using memory and no physical contact due to the ease of use and maintenance of excellence are going to use expanded. However, it is possible to the illegal acquisition of the information between RFID tags and readers because RFID uses the RF signal, and the obtained information can be used for the purpose of location tracking and invasion of privacy. In this paper, we proposed the security scheme to protect against the illegal user location tracking and invasion of privacy. The security scheme proposed in this paper, using Gray Code and reduced the capacity of the calculation of the actual tags, However, it is impossible for the malicious attacker to track information because tag information transmitted from the reader is not fixed. Therefore, even if the tags information is obtained by a malicious way, our scheme provides more simple and safe user privacy than any other protection methods to protect user privacy, because not actual information but encrypted information is becoming exposed.

  • Localization is a essential technology for mobile robot to work well. Until now expensive sensors such as laser sensors have been used for mobile robot localization. We suggest RFID tag based localization system. RFID tag devices, antennas and tags are cheap and will be cheaper in the future. The RFID tag system is one of the most important elements in the ubiquitous system and RFID tag will be attached to all sorts of goods. Then, we can use this tags for mobile robot localization without additional costs. So, in this paper, the smart floor using passive RFID tags is proposed and, passive RFID tags are mainly used for identifying mobile robot's location and pose in the smart floor. We discuss a number of challenges related to this approach, such as tag distribution (density and structure), typing and clustering. When a mobile robot localizes in this smart floor, the localization error mainly results from the sensing range of the RFID reader, because the reader just ran know whether a tag is in the sensing range of the sensor. So, in this paper, we suggest two algorithms to reduce this error. We apply the particle filter based Monte Carlo localization algorithm to reduce the localization error. And with simulations and experiments, we show the possibility of our particle filter based Monte Carlo localization in the RFID tag based localization system.

  • Reducing the energy that consumed by tag is a key requirement for the wider acceptance of the active RFID systems that use battery constrained tags. When the reader is not interrogating, the active RFID standard protocols try to reduce energy consumption of tags by using sleep mode. On sleep mode tags is active by receiving a specific signals from reader, until tag receive a sleep mode command from the reader, a tag waste energy for remaining in RX mode. Overhearing is a state of a tag in which it wastes energy for maintaining active RX state while there is no frame destined to it. According to our analysis, the amount of energy consumed by a tag due to overhearing is several time larger than that consumed by the effective communication. We propose RANO(Reservation Aloha for No Overhearing) that is designed to inform a tag of its effective communication intervals to eliminate overhearing problem in active RFID communication. The performance of the proposed protocol was evaluated through the real world by changing the number of tags and size of data. The result of an experiment, the proposed protocol performed saving about 22 times less than the standard protocol did.

  • In the anti-collision scheme proposed by EPCglobal Class-1 Gen-2 standard, the frame size for a query round is determined by Q-algorithm. In the Q-algorithm, the reader calculates a frame size without estimating the number of tags in it's identification range. It uses only the slot status. Therefore, Q-algorithm has advantage that the reader's algorithm is simpler than other algorithms. However, it cannot allocate an optimized frame size because it does not consider the number of tags. Also, the conventional Q-algorithm does not define an optimized parameter value C for adjusting the frame size. In this paper, we propose a modified Q-algorithm and evaluate the performance with computer simulations. The proposed Q-algorithm estimates the number of tags at every query round, and determines the parameter value C based on the estimated number of tags.

  • Tag collection is one of the major concerns in radio frequency identification(RFID) system. All tags in RFID reader's transmission range send response message back to the reader in response to collection request message on the given rf channel. When multiple tags respond simultaneously, tag-collision may occur. Tag-collision problem is one of the most important issues in active RFID performance. To mitigate this problem, frame slotted ALOHA(FSA) anti-collision protocol is widely used in active RFID system. Several studies show that the maximum system efficiency of FSA anti-collision protocol is 36.8%. In this paper, we propose an efficient slotted CSMA/CA protocol to improve tag collection performance. We compare our protocol to the FSA anti-collision protocol. For the experiment, an 433MHz active RFID system is implemented, which is composed of an RFID reader and multiple tags. We evaluated the tag collection performance using one RFID reader and 40 tags in the real test bed. The experimental result shows that proposed protocol improves the tag collection time, round and collision probability by 18%, 37.4% and 77.8%, respectively.

  • Currenty, in the era of big data, text mining and opinion mining have been used in many domains, and one of their most important research issues is to extract significant information from social media. Thus in this paper, we propose a logistic regression ensemble method of finding the main body text from blog HTML. First, we extract structural features and text features from blog HTML tags. Then we construct a classification model with logistic regression and ensemble that can decide whether any given tags involve main body text or not. One of our important findings is that the main body text can be found through 'depth' features extracted from HTML tags. In our experiment using diverse topics of blog data collected from the web, our tag classification model achieved 99% in terms of accuracy, and it recalled 80.5% of documents that have tags involving the main body text.
