  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a new concept of the absolute sound level system in order to basically solve all the irrational aspects from the mastering stage to the output stage during the process of producing a sound source. Through this absolute sound level system, all the input absolute sound levels of sound sources become standardized based on 60 dB(S), and then sound source producers can implement a sound level they intend by using the differential sound level tag. Besides, by matching the output absolute sound level with the input absolute sound level, a target sound level can be implemented as a listener intends. With this system introduced, sound source producers are able to focus on the completion of a sound source itself without an unnecessary competition for sound levels, and only by inputting the differential reduction tag, they can implement a sound level balance as intended. At the same time, listeners are able to appreciate all kinds of sound sources fit for the standard of absolute s ound levels they want to listen to, without a process of trial and error, no matter what kinds of listening environments and sound systems they have.

  • Recently, folksonomy-based image-sharing sites where users cooperatively make and utilize tags of image annotation have been gaining popularity. Typically, these sites retrieve images for a user request using simple text-based matching and display retrieved images in the form of photo stream. However, these tags are personal and subjective and images are not categorized, which results in poor retrieval accuracy and low user satisfaction. In this paper, we propose a categorization scheme for folksonomy images which can improve the retrieval accuracy in the tag-based image retrieval systems. Consequently, images are classified by the semantic similarity using text-information and image-information generated on the folksonomy. To evaluate the performance of our proposed scheme, we collect folksonomy images and categorize them using text features and image features. And then, we compare its retrieval accuracy with that of existing systems.

  • This paper proposes a virtual target overlay technique for a realistic training simulation which projects a virtual target on ground-based CCD images according to an appointed scenario. This method creates a realistic 3D model for instructors by using high resolution GeoTIFF (Geographic Tag Image File Format) satellite images and DTED(Digital Terrain Elevation Data), and it extracts road areas from the given CCD images for both instructors and trainees, Since there is much difference in observation position, resolution, and scale between satellite Images and ground-based sensor images, feature-based matching faces difficulty, Hence, we propose a moving synchronization technique that projects the targets on sensor images according to the moving paths marked on 3D satellite images. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm with satellite and sensor images of Daejoen.

  • In this paper, we report the design of UHF RFID ceramic antenna using HFSS, one of the widely used RFID design tools. Of the developed antenna system, we analyze its Return Loss using HFSS and its characteristics using Smith Chart methodology. We built the ceramic antenna system based on the HFSS design, and analyzed its performance by measuring the impedence matching and gains using Network Analyzer. We attach the developed prototype to UHF RFID portable terminal, and performed distance measuring for five widely used types of RFID tags to verify the performance of our proposed antenna system.

  • This study has designed a circular polarization antenna for UHF bandwidth RFID reader. As a result of performance test of the antenna designed it is found that return loss (S11) is about -45.529dB at 914MHz, which is relatively small, and antenna gain is about 6.09dBi. It has also been confirmed that $50{\Omega}$ impedance matching is about $50.48{$\Omega}$ and it can be applied to every RFID reader. Therefore, the antenna is designed to have higher gain of circular polarization by improving reception, which is one of the most important parameters of RFID reader and is expected to be extensively used to recognize multi-tag in the distance.

  • In this paper, we explore the inductively coupled concept and propose a class of electrically small planar antennas. The antennas are optimized using NEC in conjunction with a Pareto GA. These antennas show good efficiency and bandwidth performance without any additional matching network. Several optimized designs are fabricated and measured. We explain the operating principle of these antennas using a simple lumped element circuit model. The proposed antennas are translated as printed lines on Duroid for RFID tag antennas.

  • In this paper, we analyze the location accuracy of real-time locating systems (RTLSs) in multipath environments in which the RTLSs comply with the ISO/IEC 24730-2 international standard. To analyze the location error of RTLS in multipath environments, we consider a direct path and indirect path, in which time and phase are delayed, and also white Gaussian noise is added. The location error depends strongly on both the noise level and phase difference under a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime, but only on the noise level under a high SNR regime. The phase difference effect can be minimized by matching it to the time delay difference at a ratio of 180 degrees per 1 chip time delay (Tc). At a relatively high SNR of 10 dB, a location error of less than 3 m is expected at any phase and time delay value of an indirect signal. At a low SNR regime, the location error range increases to 8.1 m at a 0.5 Tc, and to 7.3 m at a 1.5 Tc. However, if the correlation energy is accumulated for an 8-bit period, the location error can be reduced to 3.9 m and 2.5 m, respectively.

  • We developed a RFID terminal to voice guide the blind who have difficulties in reaching out to the pharmaceutical information. In this work, we used RFID technology to instruct the pharmaceutical information to the blind. The voice guidance reader was made to read the RFID tag attached to the drugs and announced the pharmaceutical information matching to the tag specific ID. We had the reader to obtain the pharmaceutical information from the ezDrug site operated by Korea Food & Drug Association. The voice guidance reader was fabricated as necklace type for the easy carry, and we added mp3 player as dual uses. ARM series Cortex M3 chip was used for the reader's core chip and low power MFRC523 chipset of NXP was used to construct RFID circuit. MFRC523 chip uses low power to meet the mobile application. We used VS1003B MP3 Decoder IC to make the voice generation circuit and CC2500 chipset for the wireless communication to the pharmaceutical information server. We also developed the system that can support ISO 14443A type and ISO 14443B type so that the system can be used to extend to various RFID protocols. Utilization of this system can conveniently convey the pharmaceutical information to the blind and reduce the drug abuse.

  • Most IoT-related approaches have tried to establish the relation by connecting the network between things. The proposed research will present how the pervasive interaction of eco-system formed by touching the objects between humans and things can be recognized on purpose. By collecting and sharing the detected patterns among all kinds of things, we can construct the environment which enables individualized interactions of different objects. To perform the aforementioned, we are going to utilize technical procedures such as event-driven signal processing, pattern matching for signal recognition, and hardware in the loop simulation. We will also aim to implement the prototype of sensor processor based on Arduino MCU, which can be integrated with system using Arduino-Matlab/Simulink hybrid-interoperation environment. In the experiment, we use piezo transducer to detect the vibration or vibrates the surface using acoustic wave, which has specific frequency spectrum and individualized signal shape in terms of time axis. The signal distortion in time and frequency domain is recorded into memory tracer within sensor processor to extract the meaningful pattern by comparing the stored with lookup table(LUT). In this paper, we will contribute the initial prototypes for the acoustic touch processor by using off-the-shelf MCU and the integrated framework based on Matlab/Simulink model to provide the individualization of the touch-sensing for the user on purpose.

  • This research is for early extraction and utilization of semantic information from the tags in tagged Web image retrieval. Generally, users attach a tag to a Web image with little thought of the order, up to over 100 ones. In this paper, we suggest a method of selecting prior tags based on their importance when tagged images are uploaded, and using them in image retrieval. Ideas came from the recognition of the important tags which give a better description of the image as the tags sharing more semantic information with other tags of the same image. This method includes calculation of relation scores between tags based on WordNet and multilevel search of tagged images with the scores. For evaluation, we compared the suggested method and other retrieval methods searching images with simple matching of tags to a given keyword. As the results, we found the superiority of our method in precision and recall rate.
