  • Recently, general purpose graphic processing units(GPUs) are being widely used in mobile embedded systems such as smart phone and tablet PCs. Because of architectural limitations of mobile GPGPUs, only a single program is allowed to occupy a GPU at a time in a non-preemptive way. As a result, it is difficult to meet performance requirements of applications such as frame rate or response time if applications running on a GPU are not scheduled properly. To tackle this difficulty, we propose to specify applications using synchronous data flow model of computation such that applications are formed with edges and nodes. Then nodes of applications are scheduled onto a GPU unlike conventional scheduling an application as a whole. This approach allows applications to share a GPU at a finer granularity, node (or task)-level, providing several benefits such as eliminating need for manually partitioning applications and better GPU utilization. Furthermore, any scheduling policy can be applied in response to the characteristics of applications.

  • As the demand for large flexible displays such as tablet computers continues to rise, there is an increasing need for cost-efficient colorless and optically transparent polyimide film that can meet the desired performance, particularly optical transmittance. In this study, we investigated a detailed procedure for achieving optimal optical transmittance using two different combinations of monomers: 6FDA+BAPB and 6FDA+BPA+TFDB. We employed a design of experiment method to systematically synthesize polymers, allowing for the optimization of optical transmittance. In addition, we were able to achieve uniform thickness in the films by using a doctor blade. By comparing the price and optical transmittance of four different monomer combinations, we obtained fundamental data on the production of polyimide films that can be customized to meet the specific price and performance requirements of manufacturers. This approach enables users to select the most suitable polyimide film based on their desired price and performance parameters while achieving optimal optical transmittance.

  • A transmission Raman spectroscopy-based quantitative model, which can analyze the content of a drug product containing naproxen sodium as its active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), was developed. Compared with the existing analytical method, i.e., high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), Raman spectroscopy exhibits high test efficiency owing to its shorter sample pre-treatment and measurement time. Raman spectroscopy is environmentally friendly since samples can be tested rapidly via a nondestructive method without sample preparation using solvent. Through this analysis method, rapid on-site analysis was possible and it could prevent the production of defective tablets with potency problems. The developed method was applied to the assays of the naproxen sodium of coated tablets that were manufactured in commercial scale and the content of naproxen sodium was accurately predicted by Raman spectroscopy and compared with the reference analytical method such as HPLC. The method validation of the new approach was also performed. Further, the specificity, linearity, accuracy, precision, and robustness tests were conducted, and all the results were within the criteria. The standard error of cross-validation and standard error of prediction values were determined as 0.949 % and 0.724 %, respectively.

  • Background: Radiodiagnosis is widely performed in medical institutions. All medical professionals, including nurses, are at risk of radiation exposure. This study developed an educational application for radiation medical professionals to visualize the distribution of scattered radiation using augmented reality. Materials and Methods: A Monte Carlo simulation code was used to simulate mobile chest and abdominal radiography. The calculation results were incorporated into an augmented reality application. The results of the Monte Carlo calculations were validated by comparing them with radiation measurements. An augmented reality application for tablet devices was developed in Unity that visualizes the scattered radiation dose. Results and Discussion: The application was developed by visualizing the distribution of scattered radiation in mobile radiography in augmented reality in three-dimensional real space. The calculation results were validated, and the error between the displayed radiation dose values and the measured radiation dose values was generally less than 10%. Conclusion: The developed application allows users to overlay quantitative values of imperceptible radiation exposure doses onto any real-world environment. This enables users to intuitively understand the relationship between the distance from a radiation source and the received dose, thereby contributing to a better understanding of radiation protection in clinical settings.
