This study suggests surface wave communication, which uses a metal surface as a medium, to provide wireless communication in the extreme environment due to surrounding metal materials on vessels. The test was conducted on a G/T 265 tons tug boat to confirm the possibility of surface wave communication between a bridge and each designated space in the ship. As a result, the transmission speed was 13Mbps on average. In a test case of the bridge via the engine room, the transmission speed was 4.3Mbps on engine running and 1.2Mbps on sailing. It overcame this by partially changing the equipment installation location. Surface wave communication in bow storage, a fully enclosed space, had 8Mbps better transmission speed than wireless communication; this confirmed the superiority of surface wave communication in confined spaces on a vessel. Additional surface wave generators were designed and applied to resolve the paint issue. It is expected to use surface wave communication to implement the new wireless solution for Maritime-IoT system on vessels.
Objective: The aim of this study was to report the effectiveness of traditional Korean medicine treatment with rehabilitation exercise on a chronic intracerebral hemorrhage patient with a severe gait disturbance. Method: The patient was treated with Korean herbal medicine (Gami-sibjeondaebo-tang) along with acupuncture, moxibustion, and rehabilitation exercise. The treatment effect was evaluated through the Manual Muscle Test (MMT) and the Korean version of the Modified Barthel Index (K-MBI). The gait of the patient was evaluated by Functional Ambulatory Category (FAC) and the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test. The spatiotemporal parameters were evaluated by a walkway system (GAITRite(R) system) and gait symmetry was evaluated by Symmetry Criterion (SC). Results: After 111 days of traditional Korean medicine treatment, the spatiotemporal parameters and symmetry of the patient's gait improved. Conclusion: This study suggested that traditional Korean medicine treatment with rehabilitation exercise could be effective for gait disturbance in patients with chronic intracerebral hemorrhage.
The study attempted to systematically and comprehensively analyze individual studies in which proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) was performed with chronic stroke patients. Selection criteria included type of participants (stroke patients), intervention (PNF), comparison (intervention group or non-intervention group), outcomes (effect on dynamic balance), and study design (randomized controlled trial). We searched seven literature databases, and selected 17 papers that met our selection criteria. For meta-analysis, effect size of each individual study was extracted using the R project for Statistical computing version 4.0.3. Rob 2.0 tool, developed by the Cochrane group, was used to evaluate the quality of each individual study. The overall effect size PNF with dynamic balance was 0.59 (95% CI=0.41-1.77), which was significantly different than the median effect size (p<0.05). The sub-group for dynamic balance was analyzed, for effect sizes of BBS (0.50), TUG (0.78), and FRT (0.51). Thus, PNF intervention has a positive impact on improve of dynamic balance by chronic stroke patients.

PURPOSE: This study was performed to investigate the effects of the whole-body vibration exercise combined with ankle joint mobilization on the gait and balancing ability in patients with hemiplegic stroke. METHODS: A total of 19 patients at a rehabilitation hospital who had suffered a hemiplegic stroke were randomly assigned to the experimental group (whole-body vibration exercise combined with ankle joint mobilization, n=10) or control group (whole-body vibration exercise, n=9). All participants underwent 30 min of comprehensive rehabilitation therapy (5 × /week for 6 weeks). Additionally, the experimental group performed the whole body vibration exercise and ankle joint mobilization (15 minutes each, 30 minutes total, 3 × / week for 6 weeks). In the control group, only the whole- body vibration exercise was performed in the same manner and not the ankle joint mobilization. The gait and balancing abilities were measured before and after the 6-week training. RESULTS: Significant improvements were observed in the 10-m walk test, timed up-and-go (TUG) test, center of pressure (COP) path length, and COP path velocity in the experimental group (p < .05). The experimental group showed a larger decrease in the COP path length and velocity than the control group (COP path length, -10.27 mm vs. -3.67 mm, p < .05; COP path velocity, -.33 cm/sec vs. -.13 cm/sec, p < .05, respectively). CONCLUSION: The whole-body vibration exercise combined with ankle joint mobilization could be effective in improving the gait and balancing ability of stroke patients and could also be more effective for improving the static balance ability than the general whole-body vibration exercise alone.

Barges that are towed by tugs do not have navigation capabilities and are usually connected to tugs. These kinds of combined navigation schemes have generated almost ten percent of all maritime accidents in the last five years. The study aims to reduce maritime accidents with barges towed by tugs by analyzing navigation characteristics and the current status of such combined navigation schemes. The analysis consists of the lesson learned from each verdict. The result of the study emphasizes that human factors continue to be the primary cause of maritime accidents with barges and tugs. Additionally, the research proposes that effective advertising for improving maritime safety by reducing towing barge maritime accidents should be created through associations of tugs and barges. Furthermore, relevant re-training must be conducted by maritime training institutions. The results of the study are expected to apply to the improvement of maritime safety through the advertisements to seafarers.

In this study, the dynamic characteristics of an offshore platform being installed and physical phenomena are analyzed from the perspective of interaction between operation and maneuvering simulation using a real-time Maneuvering & Operation simulator of Shipbuilding & Marine Simulation Center at Tongmyong University. It was simulated to install the semi-submersible drilling rig moored by 8 mooring lines according to a scenario that is similar to it on the real sea, and 4 tug boats for position keeping of the rig and an offshore support vessel for hook-up of the mooring lines were operated. During the simulation, the motion, trajectory, tension of the objects were output in real time, and they were analyzed at each work procedure. This study about the simultaneous simulation of operation and maneuvering showed the detailed motion of the offshore platform and ships on the operation procedure and the interaction between operation and maneuvering in specific environment condition. Also, it confirmed that the simulation can be utilized to determine the possibility of offshore platform installation in specific situations.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of strength exercise program(60 minutes/day, 3 times/week) on health-related fitness and the factor of metabolic syndrome in the older at senior care facilities during 12 weeks. Twenty-seven volunteers were recruited for the study and divided into two groups: 15 persons(82.6yrs) undertook a continuous 12 weeks strength exercise program(EG), and 12 persons(78.9yrs) served as a control group(CG). The data process of this study calculated as mean(M) and standard Deviation(SD) of all measured value, used repeated measure ANOVA, and paired t-test. The significant level of hypothesis verification is set-up as α=.05. After 12 weeks in EG, health-related fitness increased by an average of 15.2% for right grip strength(p<.05), 26.9% for left grip strength(p<.05), 32.7% for chair stand(p<.05), 92.5% for one leg stand(p<.05), 29.6% for sit and reach(p<.05), and 34.5% for TUG(p<.05); CG showed no difference between pre and post. In the factor of metabolic syndrome, Systolic BP(3.1mmHg) and fasting blood glucose(7.4mg/dl) decreased in the EG group(p<.05). In summary, the strength exercise program leads to a genuine increase in health-related fitness and decrease in the factor of metabolic syndrome in the older adults. The well planned strength exercise seems to be an important intervention to improve function fitness in this population.

Age related decrease of muscle strength, balance, and gait abilities bring about physical inactivity in the elderly. Virtual reality (VR) training has been used successfully to rehabilitate functional balance and mobility in elderly subjects. This study was aimed at determining the effect of VR-based exercise programs by using a video game on the muscle strength, balance, and gait abilities in the elderly. 48 old people were randomly divided into two groups; VR-group (men: 11, women: 14, age: 68.42yrs) and control group (men: 10, women: 13, age: 67.58yrs). VR-group performed an exercise program twice a week for 8 weeks and control group had no intervention. The VR-based exercise program was composed of warm up(10 mins), VR-program(40 mins), and cool down(10mins). It was performed by playstation eyetoy play that provided visual and auditory feedback as well as movements of the upper and lower extremities. Muscle strengths of the knee and ankle were measured using manual muscle tester. Static balance was estimated using computerized posturography. Dynamic balance was measured by Timed up and go test (TUG), Functional reach test (FRT). 10m walk test and 6-min walk test were used to assess gait abilities. After the completion of the VR-exercise program, muscle strength, balance, and gait abilities were improved significantly (p<0.05). In conclusion, the VR-based exercise program showed improvement on the muscle strength, balance, and gait ability in the elderly. This exercise program is both effective and interesting for this age group.
Before the Korean War, Korean mask dramas had been performed as parts of seasonal customs and had been passed down in connection with various seasonal events, such as village rites, tug of war, torch fighting, Jisinbabgi(stepping on evil spirits), Gilnori, and Sattonoreum. However, after the Korean War, the dramas were played independently regardless of those seasonal events; thus, they have lost their original functions and meanings. After the Korean War, the lion dance in the Bukcheong lion mask play included two lions (as opposed to one lion prior to the Korean War) and the Aeonesung and Sadang dances were added. The scene in which a lion eats a child changed to a lion eating a rabbit doll. Furthermore, whereas mask types used to be diverse, they are now standardized to one type of lion mask. In the Yangju Byulsandae-nori, eight monks and Waejangnye, Aesadang appeared in 'Aesadang Bubgonori', but now the Malddugi mask character is added. Current performances omit sexually suggestive scenes. In the pre-Korean War version of the old man and old woman act, the old man sang a song to the soul of the dead woman, but now a shaman appears and performs an exorcism. In the dialogues, vulgar and sexual statements have been shortened as many audience members are women and children. Regarding the appearance of the masks, the lotus leaf, the monk with Scabies, and sannim masks have been significantly changed. Bongsantalchum has also changed, especially in the old monk act. Previously, two Somu used to appear whereas now only one appears. The scene of the shoe seller's and the monkey's departure is also different. Furthermore, while the former masks once had big eye holes on each side of the nose, now the masks have smaller holes on the eyes.

In this study analyzed experimental data on noise interference caused by engine operating apply surface wave communication in the engine room. For the experiment, 7 areas of the engine room on 256 ton tug boat and measured noise during engine on off using signal analyzer for effect surface wave communication. In order to construct and actual communication network based on the analysis of the noise and confirm the characteristics of surface wave communication in the area made metal bulkheads the actual communication network installed communication equipment between three metal bulkheads and conducted a comparative experiment with wireless communication. The difference was confirmed. As a result, in the case of surface wave communication, there was no significant difference in the transmission and reception rates before and after engine operation in an environment with three bulkheads, but in the case of Wi-Fi using wireless, the performance deteriorated significantly during operation. was confirmed. As a result of analyzing the experimental data, it was confirmed that noise caused by engine operation affects wireless communication but does not affect surface wave communication. Therefore, even in the area with a lot of electromagnetic wave noise in the ship, when the surface wave communication system is configured using the ship's metal structure, it is possible to replace the wireless communication and furthermore, it is possible to apply the surface wave communication in the enclosed space and the engine room in the ship.
