  • Objectives: This study investigated the effects of physically damaged and resin-contaminated tips on radiant emittance, comparing them with new undamaged, non-contaminated tips using 3 pieces of spectrophotometric laboratory equipment. Materials and Methods: Nine tips with damage and/or resin contaminants from actual clinical situations were compared with a new tip without damage or contamination (control group). The radiant emittance was recorded using 3 spectrophotometric methods: a laboratory-grade thermopile, a laboratory-grade integrating sphere, and a portable light collector (checkMARC). Results: A significant difference between the laboratory-grade thermopile and the laboratory-grade integrating sphere was found when the radiant emittance values of the control or damaged/contaminated tips were investigated (p < 0.05), but both methods were comparable to checkMARC (p > 0.05). Regardless of the method used to quantify the light output, the mean radiant emittance values of the damaged/contaminated tips were significantly lower than those of the control (p < 0.05). The beam profile of the damaged/contaminated tips was less homogeneous than that of the control. Conclusions: Damaged/contaminated tips can reduce the radiant emittance output and the homogeneity of the beam, which may affect the energy delivered to composite restorations. The checkMARC spectrophotometer device can be used in dental offices, as it provided values close to those produced by a laboratory-grade integrated sphere spectrophotometer. Dentists should assess the radiant emittance of their light-curing units to ensure optimal curing in photoactivated, resin-based materials.

  • We investigated the electrical properties of tris-isopropylsilylethynyl (TIPS)-pentacene organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) employing Ni/Ag source/drain electrodes. The gap height between the gate insulator and S/D electrode was controlled by changing the thickness of Ag under-layer(20, 30, 40 and 50nm). After evaporating the Ni under-layer, TIPS pentacene channel material was dropping the gap between the gate insulator and SID electrodes. The electrical proprieties of OTFT such as filed-effect mobility, on/off ratio, threshold voltage and subthreshold slope were significantly influenced by the gap height.

  • In this paper, we investigated the electrical properties change of 6,13-bis(triisopropyl-silylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS-pentacene) depending on polymer blend. We fabricated organic thin film transistor (OTFT) using blending solution of small molecule and polymer. In this study poly(2-methoxy-5-(2-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene-vinylene) (MEH-PPV), poly (9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK), poly [N,N'-bis(4-butylphenyl)-N,N'-bis(phenyl)benzidine] (poly-TPD), poly(${\alpha}$-methyl styrene), Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) are used as a polymer. Fabricated OTFT with blending solution of TIPS-pentacene and PVK shows best performance in this experiment. OTFT fabricated by blending solution of TIPS-pentacene and PVK shows field effect mobility of 0.0189 $cm^2/V{\cdot}s$, on/off ratio of 1.9E-5 and threshold voltage of 7.4 V.

  • We investigated the influence of organic solvents on the droplet properties of 6,13-bis (triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS-pentacene), which was used for semiconductor of organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) and deposited by ink jet printing. From the result of the investigation, the conditions of a suitable solvent is that boiling point should be above $200^{\circ}C$ to reduce coffee stain and the surface tension above 32 dyn/cm to decrease the droplet size. Consequently, we selected tetralin which have a high boiling point ($207^{\circ}C$) and high surface tension (34.3 dyn/cm) as the solvent for TIPS-pentacene, and applied it to OTFTs. In fabrication process the conventional bank process employing photolithography and etching process was replaced by ink jet printed bank process, resulting in simplifying the process. Especially, polyvinylphenol was used for the bank, and the high hydrophobicity could improve the confinement of TIPS molecules inside the bank, enhancing the performance over the conventional hydrophilic polyvinylalcohol bank. The mobility was $0.18\;cm^2/Vs$, current on/off ratio $2.09{\times}10^5$, subthreshold slope 0.42 V/dec, and off state current $0.049\;pA/{\mu}m$.

  • We analysed interfacial traps in organic thin-film transistors (TFTs) in which pentacene and 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)-pentacene (TIPS-pentacene) organic semiconductors were deposited by means of vacuum-thermal evaporation and drop-coating methods, respectively. The thermally-deposited pentacene film consists of dentritic grains with the average grain size of around 1 m, while plate-like crystals over a few hundred microns are observed in the solution-processed TIPS-pentacene film. From the transfer characteristics of both TFTs, lower subthreshold slope of 1.02 V/decade was obtained in the TIPS-pentacene TFT, compared to that (2.63 V/decade) of the pentacene transistor. The interfacial trap density values calculated from the subthreshold slope are about $3.4{\times}10^{12}/cm^2$ and $9.4{\times}10^{12}/cm^2$ for the TIPS-pentacene and pentacene TFTs, respectively. Herein, lower subthreshold slope and less interfacial traps in TIPS-pentacene TFTs are attributed to less domain boundaries in the solution-processed TIPS-pentacene film.

  • An experimental investigation of the machining characteristics such as cutt- ing resistance, surface roughness and tool wear in turning the test pieces of SM45C steel with both coated and uncoated carbide tool tips under various cutting conditions was conducted. Also a specially designed simple vibration damping device was experimentally evaluated for its effectiveness on machined surface roughness and a vibration test was conducted to confirm its ability to reduce the amplitude. Based on these tests finding, the following conclusions are made; 1. The cutting resistance($\textrm{p}_{1}$) increases as the depth of cut(d) increases at fixed feed rate(f) over the cutting speed(v) range of 43-226 m/min and p decreses about 18% average when V is increased for fixed d and f. At V= 226m/min, $\textrm{p}_{1}$/for A, C tips are about the same level but $\textrm{p}_{1}$ for B tip is 15% less than A, C tips. 2. The specific cutting resistance(Ks) at V=226 m/min was derived for A, B, C tips respectively and the value of Ks for B rip is about 20% less than A, C tips. 3. The surface roughness(Ra) improves significantly as the cutting speed(V) is increased and this effect was greater when V>100 m/min. On the other hand, Ra deteriorates as the feed rate(f) is increased and this trend was accelerated when f>0.3 mm/rev. With regard to the difference of Ra values among A, B, C tips, at V=226m/min, d=0.4mm, and f=0.31-0.61mm/rev, Ra values for B.C tips are about 17% less than tip A. 4. The experimental tool wear equations were derived for A, B, C tips and from these equations, the tool life($\textrm{T}_{\textrm{L}}$) baced on the I.S.O. criteria was calculated to be $\textrm{T}_{\textrm{L}}$<$\textrm{T}_{\textrm{LB}}$<$\textrm{T}_{\textrm{LC}}$ for both flank wear($\textrm{V}_{\textrm{B}}$) and boundary wear($\textrm{V}_{\textrm{N}}$). Hence, the coated tips are superior to the uncoated tip and tip C is considered to be the best. 5. The cutting resistance may be slightly reduced and the surface rounghness improved when the damper is used especially when V>100 m/min. Therefore this damping device is considered to be effective and practical. The experimental surface roughness equations were also derived. Based on the vibration test, it is established that the surface roughness improvement was the result of amplitude reduction made possible by the damper.

  • A series of three-dimensional (3D) parametric finite element analyses have been performed to study the influence of the relative locations of pile tips with regards to the tunnel position on the behaviour of single piles and pile groups to adjacent tunnelling in weathered soil. When the pile tips are inside the influence zone, which considers the relative pile tip location with respect to the tunnel position, tunnelling-induced pile head settlements are larger than those computed from the Greenfield condition. However, when the pile tips are outside the influence zone, a reverse trend is obtained. When the pile tips are inside the influence zone, the tunnelling-induced tensile pile forces mobilised, but when the pile tips are outside the influence zone, compressive pile forces are induced because of tunnelling, depending on the shear stress transfer mechanism at the pile-soil interface. For piles connected to a cap, tensile and compressive forces are mobilised at the top of the centre and side piles, respectively. It has been shown that the increases in the tunnelling-induced pile head settlements have resulted in reductions of the apparent factor of safety up to approximately 43% when the pile tips are inside the influence zone, therefore severely affecting the serviceability of the piles. The pile behaviour, when considering the location of the pile tips with regards to the tunnel, has been analysed in great detail by taking the tunnelling-induced pile head settlements, axial pile forces, apparent factor of safety of the piles and shear transfer mechanism into account.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the fittness of Golden relation items was advocated by Ricketts whether or not it is applicable to the young adult Korean dentitions and also to evaluate the several new Golden relation items conducted by the author. The material was consisted of 81 dental casts (34 male, 47 female) with ideal occlusion, which never undergone orthodontic, prosthodontic procedures. Measurements were made on the arch dimensions using sliding caliper (Mitutoyo. Co) and data were computerized and analyzed. The findings of this study were as follows, 1. The Golden proportion advocated by Ricketts dose not seem to directly applicable to the Korean normal dentition, however, the modification from the Ricketts' original shows the Golden proportion as follow: A first series of progressive Golden relations was found on the Golden ratio among the lower central incisors width, the inter mesioincisal width of the upper lateral incisors, and the upper first premolars width. A second series was found on the Golden ratio among the lower lateral incisors width, lower inter canine tips width and theupper first molar distal cusp tips width. A third series was found on the Golden ratio between the inter distal aspect width of e lower canine and the mesial cusp tips width of the lower second molars or inter cusp tips width of upper second premolars. 2. In addition to Ricketts' original, 4 new Golden proportions were found in young adult Korean dentition, these are as follows; The tips of lower canine width had Golden relation with the width of the upper first premolar buccal cusp tips or the width of the lower first molar central fossae. The distal aspect of the lower first premolars had Golden relation with the buccal surface widths of the lower or upper second molars. The width of upper lateral incisors had Golden relation with the upper second molar height. The width of the lower canine tips had Golden relation with the lower second molar height.

  • The preservation of pear germplasm, like that of other clonal germplasms, is difficult because it requires conservation of whole plants or their tissues. Among the currently available methods for long-term conservation of clonal germplasm, cryopreservation of shoot tips is the most reliable and cost- and space-effective option. Alginate-coated axillary shoot tips from in vitro-grown pear were conserved successfully in liquid nitrogen (LN) following dehydration. Shoot recovery from cryopreserved shoot tips was improved greatly after 8 weeks of cold acclimation, but recovery decreased slightly after then. The highest regeneration rate was observed when in vitro shoot tips were preincubated in MS (Murashige and Skoog) medium with 0.3 M sucrose for 48 h, and when alginate-coated shoot tips were precultured in MS medium with increasing sucrose concentrations (0.5 M and 0.7 M) for 8 and 16 h, respectively. When the encapsulated beads were dehydrated for up to 7 h [25% water content (fresh weight basis)] under laminar flow, the highest regeneration rate was observed in "BaeYun No. 3" (55.7%) and "Whanggeum" (43.3%) after warming from LN. This technique is useful as a practical procedure to cryopreserve plant material that is sensitive to freezing of the surrounding cryoprotectant medium. Therefore, this technique appears to be promising for the cryopreservation of shoot tips from in vitro-grown plantlets of pear germplasm.
