  • In this paper, inductive coupled LC balun has been desi gned and simulated for embedding into an organic packaging substrate. Inductive coupling method was applied to obtain wide band characteristics, and high dielectric film was utilized to reduce a size of the balun. The proposed balun has a novel scheme which consists of three embedded LC resonators with inductive coupling. This proposed balun has relatively small inductance and capacitance values which can be easily embedded into the organic packaging substrate. Furthermore, it has a good phase imbalance characteristic. The simulated results of proposed balun are an insertion loss of 1.2 dB, a return loss of 10 dB, a phase imbalance of 1 degree at frequency bandwidth of 750 MHz ranged from 1.8 GHz to 2.55 GHz, respectively. This balun has an area of $2mm{\tims}3.5mm{\times}0.66mm$ (height).

  • Elemental analysis of 40 glass samples from the Northern Tomb and the Southern Tomb of Hwangnam-daech'ong No. 98 was performed. Fourteen compositions of each sample were analyzed quantitatively by SEM-EDS and glass samples were classified by multivariate analysis such as PCA. All of 40 samples were confirmed to be Na2O-CaO-SiO2 system with about 20% of Na2O. Samples were classified into two groups by doing PCA on concentrations of 5 major elements(SiO2, Al2O3, Na2O, CaO and K2O). Samples included in group I showed the concentration of Al2O3 is about 9.7% and that of CaO, about 2.2%. In group II, concentration of Al2O3 is about 3.2% and that of CaO, about 4.9%. Especially yellow grains embedded in sample No. 12 were shown to be PbSnO3 by micro XRD, which was the first coloring material ever found in Korea. Lead isotope ratios of samples No. 12 and No. 17 which contained lead were measured by TIMS. The origin of lead was traced by means of multivariate analysis such as SLDA. The result showed that lead from southern China and southern Korea had been used for making glass.

  • The chemical compositions and lead isotope ratio of Poong-Tag(wind bell) bell excavated from Wanggyeong site, Gyeongju have analyzed by ICP and TIMS. The analysis result of chemical composition of Poong-Tag shows that it consists of 92:4 ratio of Cu:Sn. Other 8 minor elements(Pb, Zn, Fe, Ag, Ni, As, Sb and Co) show the concentration of below 0.2% respectively. This result means that Poong-Tag have made using highly purified Cu and Sn ore. For the study of provenance of raw material with the lead isotope ratio, the origin of the raw material of Poong-Tag can not be presumed owing to beyond the scope. The observation result of microstructure of Poong-Tag show the dendrite structure made through casting process. The chemical composition, microstructure, and lead isotope ratio of Poong-Tag excavated from Wanggyeong site, Gyeongju can be used as fundamental data to compare with other Poong-Tag of different regions and periods.

  • Chemical and Pb isotope analysis were performed in order to determine the origin of bronze artefacts excavated from the Inyongsaji site in South Korea. The result of ICP-MS shows that they are tin bronzes in which lead was not intentionally added during production. Pb isotope data analyzed by TIMS are plotted in the southern region of Korea and China of the distribution map drawn by Mabuchi(1985). On the other hand, the identical isotope data are plotted in the Taebaek basin and the Olcheon metamorphic belt correspondent to zone2 and zone3 respectively. It is believed that the isotope data on the tin bronzes which have very low lead content can be used to trace the origin of copper ore rather than those of either lead or tin ore. Pb istope analysis allows diverse interpretation as it can be applied to any object containing trace amounts of lead. In addition, accumulation of isotope data as well as further studies will improve reliability of the provenance studies.

  • The Conservation Science Team of National Museum of Korea has established the data base of lead isotope ratio as the scientific research of bronze patina, which was acquired from conservation process of metal objects, and based on this result, it intends to conduct the research related to the production places of raw material for the bronze objects. As the equipment for analysis of lead isotope ratio of the bronze patina, the thermal ionization mass spectrometer (TIMS) was used. As part of the research, in 2007, the 11 samples of the bronze Patina from the objects, believed to belong to of Nangnang(Lelang), the 6 items of bronze patina from the flower-shaped bronze dishes, belong to Unified Silla period and 4 items from the Goryeo bronze bell were acquired and analyzed the lead isotope ratio. Based on the data of the lead isotope ratio from the galena of Korea, China and Japan, the provenance raw materials were estimated through the comparison of their lead isotope ratios. In the future, the Conservation Science Team of the National Museum of Korea will collect as much bronze patina as possible from the process of conservation treatment of metal objects, and analyze them in order to conduct the study of provenance with the type, period and the region of the objects.
