  • Unintentional islanding results in safety hazards, reliability, and many other issues. Therefore, the islanding detection of a power conditioning system of a distributed generation, such as a grid-connected photovoltaic inverter, is a key function for standard compliance. Currently, many anti-islanding schemes have been examined, but existing anti-islanding schemes have poor power quality and non-detection zone issues. Therefore, this study analyzes the non-detection zone in a more deliberate manner than the existing analysis of the non-detection zone and proposes a new anti-islanding scheme, which has negligible power quality degradation and no non-detection zone. Simulation and experimental results validate that the proposed scheme shows much better performance than other existing schemes.

  • This paper investigates the stability and performance of model predictive controlled active-front-end (AFE) rectifiers for energy storage systems, which has been increasingly applied in power distribution sectors and in renewable energy sources to ensure an uninterruptable power supply. The model predictive control (MPC) algorithm utilizes the discrete behavior of power converters to determine appropriate switching states by defining a cost function. The stability of the MPC algorithm is analyzed with the discrete z-domain response and the nonlinear simulation model. The results confirms that the control method of the active-front-end (AFE) rectifier is stable, and that is operates with an infinite gain margin and a very fast dynamic response. Moreover, the performance of the MPC controlled AFE rectifier is verified with a 3.0 kW experimental system. This shows that the MPC controlled AFE rectifier operates with a unity power factor, an acceptable THD (4.0 %) level for the input current and a very low DC voltage ripple. Finally, an efficiency comparison is performed between the MPC and the VOC-based PWM controllers for AFE rectifiers. This comparison demonstrates the effectiveness of the MPC controller.

  • Grid Connected inverter is produced current to deliver power to grid. To provide low THD current, LCL filters is effective to filter high frequency component of current output from inverter. To provide sinusoidal waveform, there are many researchers have been proposed several controllers for grid-connected inverter controllers. Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF)-based controller is the most popular methods. SRF-based controller is capable for reducing both of zero-steady state error and phase delay. But SRF based controller is contained cross-coupling components, which generate some difficulties to analyze. In this paper, SRF based controller is analyzed. By applying decoupling control, cross-coupling component is eliminated and single phase model of the system is obtained. Through this single phase model, gain controller is designed. To reduce steady state error, proportional gain is set as high as possible, but it may produce instability. To compromise between a minimum steady state error and stability, the single phase model is evaluate through Root Locus and Bode diagram. PSIM simulation is used to verify the analysis.

  • For producing iron or steel products with good quality, the concentration of the material components should be analyzed quickly with high relability using XRF(Fluorescent X-Ray Spectrometer). Since the analysis results are much dependent upon the surface con- dition, the samples have to be prepared to have good test condition. This study presents an image processing system for inspecting the surface condition of the iron test sample. In order to use thd computer vision system, we need to develop a lighting device and image processing algorithm. For the adequate lighting device of inspection system, the indirect lighting device is contrived to cut the external light and provide uniform, stable and cold light. The image processing algorithm is aimed to reduce inspection time and to get similar analyzing results to those of the experienced operators. At first, the image processing algorithm checks whether the surface of the iron sample is ground well or not. Then, the defects; hole or dig are conted and surface condition is evaluated. In addition, the algorithm gives the reliability of the analyzing results in order to help operator's decision.

  • The increasing use of power electronic equipment in distribution system has been the reason for the greater concern about a harmonic in recent time. Therefore, it is necessary for measurement and modelling to analyze a harmonic level and a transfer characteristic in distribution system. In this paper, the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) is selected to analyze harmonic characteristic of distribution system by IEC 61000-3-6. Harmonic voltage and orient were measured at the PCC of real distribution system Harmonic distribution, nonlinear load component and Total Harmonic Distortion(THD) were verified. The effective and accurate modelling of real distribution system were proved through a analysis of harmonic impedance, voltage and current under steady-state. Harmonic transfer characteristic were investigated through a analysis of harmonic voltage and current under harmonic current source.

  • Wireless power transfer (WPT) technology has been the focus of a lot of research due to its safety and convenience. The Z-source inverter (ZSI) was introduced into WPT systems to realize improved system performance. The ZSI regulates the dc-rail voltage in WPT systems without front-end converters and makes the inverter bridge immune to shoot-through states. However, when the WPT system is combined with a ZSI, the system parameters must be configured to prevent the ZSI from entering an "accidental shoot-through" (AST) state. This state can increase the THD and decrease system power and efficiency. This paper presents a mathematical analysis for the characteristics of a WPT system and a ZSI while addressing the causes of the AST state. To deal with this issue, the impact of the system parameters on the output are analyzed under two control algorithms and the primary compensation capacitance range is derived in detail. To validate the analysis, both simulations and experiments are carried out and the obtained results are presented.

  • This paper presents about energy input and output modeling for a flywheel energy storage system that can store and supply mechanical energy, which is emerging as one of clean energy sources, and the analysis and control of a PWM inverter system. Moreover, this paper describes flywheel's characteristics related to variations of mechanical and electrical parameters like as voltage and current versus speed characteristics formed as numerical formula and thus simulate behaviour-status of flywheel energy. Also for comparison and analysis between PI control and PDFF control, the modeling, design and analysis to the single-phase full bridge inverter with double loop feedback control is accomplished through numerical description and simulation. Finally, under load condition 0.1[pu], 1[pu]. it is validated that harmonic characteristics for voltage and current wave is controlled within 5% below even dynamics condition.

  • The study of human erroneous actions has traditionally taken place along two different lines of approach. One has been concerned with finding and explaining the causes of erroneous actions, such as studies in the psychology of "error". The other has been concerned with the qualitative and quantitative prediction of possible erroneous actions, exemplified by the field of human reliability analysis (HRA). Another distinction is also that the former approach has been dominated by an academic point of view, hence emphasising theories, models, and experiments, while the latter has been of a more pragmatic nature, hence putting greater emphasis on data and methods. We have been developing a method to make predictions about error modes. The input to the method is a detailed task description of a set of scenarios for an experiment. This description is then analysed to characterise thd nature of the individual task steps, as well as the conditions under which they must be carried out. The task steps are expressed in terms of a predefined set of cognitive activity types. Following that each task step is examined in terms of a systematic classification of possible error modes and the likely error modes are identified. This effectively constitutes a qualitative analysis of the possibilities for erroneous action in a given task. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the predictions, the data from a large scale experiment were analysed. The experiment used the full-scale nuclear power plant simulator in the Halden Man-Machine Systems Laboratory (HAMMLAB) and used six crews of systematic performance observations by experts using a pre-defined task description, as well as audio and video recordings. The purpose of the analysis was to determine how well the predictions matiched the actually observed performance failures. The results indicated a very acceptable rate of accuracy. The emphasis in this experiment has been to develop a practical method for qualitative performance prediction, i.e., a method that did not require too many resources or specialised human factors knowledge. If such methods are to become practical tools, it is important that they are valid, reliable, and robust.

  • In this paper, the inductor current distortion in a boost PFC (Power Factor Correction) converter under light load is mathematically analyzed, and its reasons are defined. In the average current mode control under light load, the inductor current is discontinuous, resulting in an inaccurate inductor current average value being reflected in the current control. In predictive current mode control, the current ripple is relatively large compared to the inductor current, leading to severe current distortion. In addition, the switch is turned off near the peak of the inductor current when model predictive current control is applied. Inductor current distortion must be addressed because it leads to an increase in total harmonic distortion and a decrease in power factor. In this paper, the design procedure to mitigate the light load current distortion in boost PFC converter is selected based on the mathematical analysis. Finally, a comparative analysis of control methods under light load is performed using hardware-in-the-loop simulation.
