  • Sequiterpene lactone (1) has determined by spectroscopic analysis. This compound (1) inhibited the growth of the dermatophytic fungus Trichophyton mentagrophytes (ATCC 28185, 2 mm zone at $15{\mu}g/disk$), cytotoxic to murine leukaemia cell lines ATCC CCL 46 P388Dl, ($IC_{50}$ 1,125 ng/mL at $7.5{\mu}g/disk$) and BSC monkey kidney cell lines (100% of well at $15{\mu}g/disk$).

  • A new triterpene lactose named patrinolide A (7) has been isolated from the roots of Patrinia scabiosaefolia (Valerianaceae). Its structure was determined to be 11$\beta$,21$\beta$-dihydroxy-3-oxooleanan-28,13$\beta$-olide on the basis of spectral analysis, including 2D-NMR techniques.

  • The enantiomerically pure (2R,3S)- and (2R,3R)-3-amino-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutanoic acids (AHPBA) 1 and 3 are readily obtained from D-glucono-a-lactone. Both AHPBAs are the structural key units of KMI derivatives which are the potent inhibitors of BACE 1 ($\beta$-secretase) and HIV protease. Additionally, the obtained AHPBAs 1 and 3 are converted to dipeptides of bestatin stereoisomers 2 and 4.

  • The biocontrol agent, Serratia plymuthica A21-4, has been developed for controlling pepper Phytophthora blight. Serratia plymuthica A21-4 strongly inhibits the mycelial growth, zoospore formation, and cyst germination of Phytophthora capsici in vitro. The application of a cell suspension of strain A21-4 to pepper plants in pot experiments and in greenhouse successfully controlled the disease. The bacteria produced a potent antifungal substance which was a key factor in the suppression of Phytophthora capsici. The most active chemical com-pound was isolated and purified by antifungal activity-guided fractionation. The chemical structure was identified as a chlorinated macrolide $(C_{23}H_{31}O_8Cl)$ by spectroscopic (UV, IR, MS, and NMR) data, and was named macrocyclic lactone A21-4. The active compound significantly inhibited the formation of zoosporangia and zoospore and germination of cyst of P. capsici at concentrations lower than $0.0625{\mu}g/ml$. The effective concentrations of the macrocyclic lactone A21-4 for $ED_{50}$ of mycelial growth inhibition were $0.25{\mu}g/ml,\;0.25{\mu}g/ml,\;0.30{\mu}g/ml \;and\;0.75{\mu}g/ml$ against P. capsici, Pythium ultimum, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and Botrytis cinerea, respectively.

  • Costunolide. a sesquiterpene lactone is isolated from Magnolia Sieboldi. It is known to possess antitumour and anti-inflammatory activities. This compound is synthesized from Ihe easily available decalin dione using the ring cleavage approach to construct the ten-membered ring system. The two keys points in this work are the chiral inductionon the allyl alcohol moiety using Sharpless epoxidation reaction and opening of the eopxide with an organocuprate reagent which leads to a $\alpha$-exomethylene lactone. Fluoran계 염료의 열변색 현상에 관한 열역학적 분석 (A thermodynamic analysis on thermochromism of fluoran dyes)

  • 기능성 염료의 일종인 fluoran계 염료의 열 변색현상으로부터 열역학적인 함수들을 구하였다. 양성자성 용매와 비양성자성 용매에서 온도변화에 따른 UV-Vis 스펙트럼을 측정함으로서 평형상수와 엔탈피 값을 측정하였다. 양성자성 용매에서는 락톤형으로만 존재하나 비양성자성 용매에서는 락톤형과 쯔비터 이온형이 같이 존재함을 확인하였다. 평형 상수를 결정하는 요인은 용매의 극성도가 아니라 수소결합 주게의 성질에 큰 영향을 받음을 확인하였다. 엔탈피 변화량도 측정하였다. 온도 변화에 따라 열 변색 현상이 잘 일어나므로 엔탈피 변화량은 약 -2.0 kJ/mol정도이며, 따라서 열린형이 닫힌형보다도 에너지가 안정함을 확인하였다. 산에 의한 엔탈피 변화량은 양성자성 용매에서는 거의 0 kJ/mol에 가까우며 비양성자성 용매에서는 일정한 경향성을 찾기 어려웠으며. 또한 엔트로피와 깁스 자유에너지도 일정한 경향성을 보이지 않았다. 이러한 열역학적인 분석 결과는 기능성 염료의 디자인이나 합성에서 중요한 정보를 제공할 수 있다.

  • The phytochemical study of the aerial parts of Artemisia sylvatica (Asteraceae) led to the isolation of nine sesquiterpene lactones, l$\alpha$-hydroperoxy-rupicolin A acetate (1), rupicolin B acetate (2), rupicolin A acetate (3), l$\alpha$-hydroxy-4$\alpha$-hydroperoxy-bishopsolicepolide (4), 1$\alpha$-hydroperoxy-4$\beta$-hydroxy-8$\alpha$-acetoxy-guaia-2,9,11 (13)-triene-6$\alpha$,12-oxide (5), 1$\alpha$-hydroperoxy-4$\alpha$-hydroxybishopsolicepolide (6), l$\alpha$,4$\beta$-dihydroxy-8$\alpha$-acetoxy-guaia-2,9,11(13)-triene-6$\alpha$,12-olive (7), rupicolin A (8) and l$\alpha$,4$\alpha$-dihydroxy-bishopsolicepolide (9). Their structures were established by chemical and spectroscopic methods.

이성분 혼합응고제에 의한 두부의 물성 변화 (Effect of Mixed Coagulant on the Rheological Properties of Soybean Curd)

  • Soy curd was prepared using imported soybean(U.S.grade A) and changes in quality were evaluated using different types and mixtures of coagulants(CaCl$_2$, CaSO$_4$, MgCl$_2$, MgSO$_4$, and glucono-$\delta$-lactone). Quality of soy curd was determined by rheological properties, yield, and color. Based upon the characteristics of each coagulant, mixtures of two coagulants were prepared in various ratios. The mixture of CaSO$_4$or MgCl$_2$with glucono-$\delta$-lactone(GDL), and that of CaSO$_4$or MgCl$_2$with MgSO$_4$resulted in soy curd of good quality in terms of rheological properties and yield.

  • Nine sesquiterpene lactones, which were isolated from Hemisteptia lyrata Bunge. Chrysanthemum zawadskii Herbich var. latilobum Kitamura and Chrysanthemum boreale Makino were evaluated for the farnesyl-protein transferase (FPTase) inhibitor, conducted by the scintillation proximity assay (SPA). The angeloylcumambrin B and tigloylcumambrin B inhibited a recombinant rat FPTase with $IC_{50}$ value of $78\;{\mu}g/ml$ $(225\;{\mu}M)$ and $90\;{\mu}g/ml$ $(260 \;{\mu}M)$, respectively.
