  • In this study, it has been considered that the TEM wave is incident on the transverse slit in the upper plate of a short-ended parallel-plate waveguide (PPW). An equivalent slit admittance and complex power for the case of narrow slit are obtained. The conditions for the slit voltage and the complex power in case of the maximum coupling through the slit with a nearby scatterer exterior the PPW are checked.

  • The morphology of deformation induced dislocations in polycrystalline $Ni_3$(Al, Cr) containing $M_{23}C_6$ precipitates has been investigated in terms of transmission electron microscopy(TEM). Fine Polyhedral precipitates of $M_{23}C_6$ appeared in the matrix by aging at temperatures around 973 K after solution annealing at 1423 K. TEM examination revealed that the $M_{23}C_6$ phase and the matrix lattices have a cube-cube orientation relationship and keep partial atomic matching at the {111} interface. After deformation at temperature below 973 K, typical Orowan loops were observed surrounding the $M_{23}C_6$ particles. At higher deformation temperatures, the Orowan loops disappeared and the morphology of dislocations at the particle-matrix interfaces suggested the existence of attractive interaction between dislocations and particles. The change of the interaction modes between dislocation and particles with increasing deformation temperature can be considered as a result of strain relaxation at the interface bet ween matrix and particles.

  • Silica-gold composite particles were prepared by wet chemical route including impregnation method. The effect of precursor and solvent on the preparation of silica-gold particles was investigated. When spherical silica particles and PVP and hydrogentetrachloroaurate(III) hydrate aqueous solution were used as support material and precursor solution, silica-gold composite particles with light pink color successfully obtained. Obtained composite particles were characterized using FE-SEM, FE-TEM and XRD.

  • To enhancing efficiency of hard chrome plating solution more highly, cathode current efficiency were surveyed connected with hardness of deposits, surface morphology, TEM analysis and corrosion test of anode materials. Efficiency war increased up to 26% values by adding catalyst and two kind of additives. With given bath composition and 6$0^{\circ}C$, 60A/d$\m^2$ electrolosis conditionss bright and micro cracked deposits were well obtained, which showed HV 1000 values. From corrosion tests, anode materials such as Pb-Te (0.02%) and Pb-Ag(1%) showed most anti-corrosive results. Through SEM micrograph observations, ef-fects of additives on levelling, brightness and micro crack properties of hard chrome deposits could be con-firmed. Also, through TEM analysis the fact that deposits from crack free solution or high speed solution were more fine than from sargent solution could be confirmed.

  • Oxidation behavior of 304 and 316 stainless steels was studied. After solution heat treatment, specimens were polished up to 1$mu \textrm{m}$ using $Al_2O_3$ powder and then subjected to oxidation between $300^{\circ}C$ and 50$0^{\circ}C$ in dry air. TEM and EDS were used for analyzing the components and structure of oxide film. TEM analysis of oxide film revealed that thin amorphous Fe oxide ($Fe_2O_3$) was formed on the top of surface while polycrystalline (Cr, $Fe_2O_3$ was formed below the amorphous Fe oxide layer. The specimens oxidized at $500^{\circ}C$ showed that 316 stainless steel had higher oxidation resistance than 304 stainless steel. These results suggest that Mo component of 316 stainless steel suppresses the formation of Cr carbide which may result in a local Cr depleted area.

  • Chitosan oligosaccharide with an average degree of polymerization 2-3 was prepared by degradation reaction using sodium nitrite, and the resulting aldehyde group was reduced to hydroxy group. N-palmitoyl, O-palmitoyl chitosan oligosaccha was obtained from the reaction between palmitoyl chloride and oligosaccharide under DMAP catalyst. Alkaline hydrolysis was carried out to remove the O-palmitoyl group. After dispersion and ultrasonication in aqueous solution, N-palmitoyl chitosan oligosaccharide gives vesicle structure. Its structure and size was analyzed by TEM.

  • Magnetic nanoparticles of iron and iron oxide have been prepared in a modified upward thermal diffusion cloud chamber using pulsed laser evaporation. SEM/TEM studies of these particles reveal a size distribution with a mean diameter of about $60\;{\AA}$. FTIR spectrum measurements are used to investigate the difference in oxidation level between nanoparticles prepared at different partial oxygen pressures. The complex magnetic behaviour of these particles was studied using DC- and AC-susceptibility measurements. All samples exhibit superparamagnetism with blocking temperatures ranging from 50 K to above room temperature. The coercivity fields as well as the dependence of the blocking temperature on measuring frequency have been studied. magnetic anisotropy constants are found to be one order of magnitude higher than is known for the bulk values. The mean particle size estimated from the magnetic data is found to be in perfect agreement with the TEM observations.

  • The $Co_{3}Ti$ phase hardens appreciably by the fine precipitation of disordered fcc Co-rich phase upon aging after quenching from solution annealing temperature. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) observations revealed that the precipitates are platelet in shape, lying nearly parallel to the {100} planes of the $Ll_{2}$-ordered matrix, and perfectly coherent with the matrix lattice at the beginning of aging. The high temperature strength increases appreciably with the fine precipitation of disordered Co-rich phase over the whole temperature range investigated. TEM observations of the under-aged and deformed alloys revealed that superdislocations are pinned by precipitates indicating an attractive interaction between dislocations and precipitates. In the over-aged state, thin twins are introduced in the fcc Co-rich precipitates during deformation.

  • Pre-aging heat treatment after solution heat treatment (SHT) of Al-0.4 wt%Mg-1.2 wt%Si-0.1 wt%Mn alloy sheets for auto-bodies was carried out to investigate the effect of pre-aging and its conditions on the bake-hardening response. Mechanical properties were evaluated by a tensile and Vickers hardness test. Microstructural observation was also performed using a transmission electron microscope (TEM). It was revealed that pre-aging treatments play a great role in the bake-hardening response. In addition, it was found that the sphere-shaped nanosized clusters that can directly transit to the needle-shaped ${\beta}$" phase during the paint-bake process, not being dissolved into the matrix, are formed at 343 K. The result, reveals that the dominant factor of the bake-hardening response is the pre-aging temperature rather than the pre-aging time.
