  • The Gauranteed Frame Rate service category was proposed by the ATM Forum as an enhancement to the UBR service. This service aims to support minimum cell rate gaurantee for each virtual connection and allow any excess bandwidth in the network to be shared among the contending VCs in a fair manner. We propose a new buffer management algorithm for GFR service through FIFO queuing discipline. Proposed scheme can provide minimum bandwidth guarantee for GFR VCs as well as improve the fairness among the competing GFR VCs on a single FIFO queue. From simulation results, we demonstrate the proposed scheme fulfills the requirement of GFR service as well as improves the TCP throughput.

  • Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR), recently approved by the ATM Forum, expects to become an important service category to efficiently support TCP/IP traffic in ATM networks. The GFR service not only guarantees a minimum service rate at the frame level, but also supports a fair share of available bandwidth. We proposed new scheduling scheme for the GFR service. Proposed scheme provides priority to VCs and high priority to a VC which have more untagged cells in buffer. High priority VCs have much more serviced than low priority. Proposed scheme can provide MCR(minimum cell rate) guarantee and fair sharing to GFR VCs. Computer simulation results show that proposed scheduling scheme provide a much better performance in TCP goodput and fairness than previous scheme.

  • Multicast protocols are efficient methods of group communication, but they do not support the various transmission protocol services like a reliability guarantee, FTP, or Telnet that TCPs do. The purpose of this dissertation is to find a method to utilize sewer routers to form multicasts that can simultaneously transport multicast packets and TCP packets. For multicast network scalability and error recovery the existing SRM method has been used. Three packets per TCP transmission control window size are used for transport and an ACK is used for flow control. A CBR and a SRM is used for UDP traffic control. Divided on whether a UDP multicast packet and TCP unicast packet is used simultaneously or only a UDP multicast packet transport is used, the multicast receiver with the longest delay is measured on the number of packets and its data receiving rate. It can be seen that the UDP packet and the TCP's IP packet can be simultaneously used in a server router.

  • Recently, the high-speed Internet users increase rapidly and broadband networks have been widely deployed. However, the current TCP congestion control algorithm was designed for relatively narrowband network environments, and thus its performance is inefficient for traffic transport in broadband networks. To remedy this problem, the TCP having an enhanced congestion control algorithm is required for broadband networks. In this paper, we propose an improved TCP congestion control that can sufficiently utilize the large available bandwidth in broadband networks. The proposed algorithm predicts the available bandwidth by using ACK information and RTT variation, and prevents large packet losses by adjusting congestion window size appropriately. Also, it can rapidly utilize the large available bandwidth by enhancing the legacy TCP algorithm in congestion avoidance phase. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we use the ns-2 simulator. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm improves not only the utilization of the available bandwidth but also RTT fairness and the fairness between contending TCP flows better than the HSTCP in high bandwidth delay product network environment.

  • The performance in combination of wired and wireless mesh network which will be a main access network in future internet is directly linked with service quality to users. In this paper, we evaluate variant TCP performance and analyze traffic characteristics on Wireless (Seoul National University Mesh testbed) - Wired (KOREN/Abilene) - Wireless (HP Mesh testbed in the USA) Network. We found that RTT is proper in this network to serve a VoIP service. Also we propose an enhanced TCP protocol which can perform well in both wireless network which has many packet losses and wired network which has high bandwidth and long delay.

  • In this paper, we explain the development procedure for a WLAN (IEEE 802.l1b Wireless Lan) handoff simulator using OPNET Modeler 9.0 and analyze the handoff performance when TCP and UDP traffic is applied. Because the BSS (Basic Service Set) is set only once at the beginning of a simulation in WLAN model supported by OPNET Modeler 9.0, the discontinuation of the communication between MS (Mobile Station) and AP (Access Point) is occurred by the migration of the MS from one BSS to another. We implement a handoff simulator based on this WLAN model and analyze handoff performance in various scenarios Also, we propose a new handoff algorithm which prevents TCP timeout by analyzing the problems of the handoff using the simulator.

  • Unidirectional data transmission system, which allows physical one way transmission, removes the backward link physically to prevent the intrusion from the outside through the network. However, the system is difficult to apply to the environment requiring either backward transmissions or bi-directional communications. In this paper, we proposed Limited Two-way communications system, called as LimTway, which only allows outbound TCP two-way communications. LimTway uses two one-way links(forward, backward). While the forward one-way link is staying to be activated so that an allowed outbound UDP traffic could be transmitted one-way always, the backward one-way link is activated while allowed outbound TCP sessions are established. In order to prevent the intrusion from the outside during the period, the software of LimTway is designed to allow only the transmissions of both outbound TCP two-way communication traffics and outbound UDP traffics.

  • Recently, a safety control platform to monitor the safety of train operation in real time and prevent accidents and risks through control is under study. In the initial design, DDS communication method supporting distributed network is adopted for real-time processing of large amount of data according to the integration of existing distributed safety data. However, communication between server and console inside the safety control platform is applied to existing TCP socket communication. In the case of TCP socket communication, it is possible to process data for a small system of a safety control test bed by one-to-one communication. However, if the data is expanded all over the country in the future, it becomes difficult to cope with a case where communication traffic occurs due to vast amount of data. In this paper, we propose DDS communication method to support distributed network between server and console of security control platform, and demonstrate TCP socket and DDS method, and compare throughput and speed. As a result, we have found that the scalability and flexibility are improved in case of applying DDS communication to future systems.

  • This paper proposes an intelligent system performing an application with assistance of an Internet of Things (IoT) platform to control a traffic lights system. In our proposed systems, the traffic lights can be remotely controlled through the Internet. Based on IoT platform, the traffic conditions at different intersections of roads are collected and the traffic lights are controlled in a central manner. For the software part, the algorithm is designed based on the green wave theory to maximize the green bandwidth of arterial roads while addressing a challenging issue: the rapid changes of parameters including cycle time, splits, offset, non-fixed vehicles' velocities and traffic flow along arterial roads. The issue typically happens at some areas where the transportation system is not well organized like in Vietnam. For the hardware part, PLC S7-1200 are placed at the intersections for two purposes: to control traffic lights and to collect the parameters and transmit to a host machine at the operation center. For the communication part, the TCP/IP protocol can be done using a Profinet port embedded in the PLC. Some graphical user interface captures are also presented to illustrate the operation of our proposed system.

  • Traditional Internet applications such as FIP and E-mail are increasingly sharing bandwidth with newer, more demanding applications such as Web browsing, IP telephony, video conference and online games. These new applications require Quality of Service (QoS), in terms of delay, loss and throughput that are different from QoS requirements of traditional applications. Unfortunately, current Active Queue Management (AQM) approaches offer monolithic best-effort service to all Internet applications regardless of the current QoS requirements. This paper proposes and evaluates a new AQM technique, called MCDT that provides dynamic and separated buffer threshold for each Applications, those are FTP and e-mail on TCP traffic, streaming services on tagged UDP traffic, and the other services on untagged UDP traffic. Using a new QoS metric, our simulations demonstrate that MCDT yields higher QoS in terms of the delay variation and a packet loss than RED when there are heavy UDP traffics that include streaming applications and data applications. MCDT fits the current best-effort Internet environment without high complexity.
