  • In this study, the guanidine compound, 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene (TBD) was impregnated to three kinds of silica to prepare $CO_2$ adsorbents, and the $CO_2$ adsorption and physicochemical properties of the resulting adsorbents were investigated. The TBD amount of impregnation was changed and its effect on adsorption capacity and characteristics were studied. The physicochemical properties of TBD-impregnated silica were evaluated with $N_2$ adsorption/desorption, FT-IR, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis. The TBD-impregnated silica lowered the surface area and pore volume, and the increased impregnation amount of TBD made them further decrease. When TBD was 6 mmol/g, the $CO_2$ adsorption capacity was the highest at 7.3 wt%, and the adsorption capacity decreased due to the blocking phenomenon when the TBD amount increased.

  • This paper describes the technique for Radar Particle filter for TBD(Track Before Detect) processing. TBD technique is applied when target is difficult to detect due to low signal-to-noise ratio caused by strong clutter environments, small RCS targets and stealth targets. Particle filter is suitable for a recursive TBD algorithm and has improved estimation accuracy than Kalman filter. In this paper, we will present a new method of calculating particle weight, when observation values(including strong clutter) are received at the same time. Estimation error performance of the particle filter algorithm is analyzed by using the virtual radar observation scenario.

  • In this paper, a new design technique called Task Based Design (TBD) is proposed to design an optimal robot manipulator for a given task. Optimal design of a manipulator is difficult because it involves implicit and highly nonlinear functions of many design variables for a complex task. TBD designs an optimal manipulator which performs a given task best, by using a framework called Progressive Design which decomposes the complexity of the task into three steps: kinematic design, planning and kinematic control. An example of TBD is presented to demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of our framework.

  • This paper presents a new transient voltage blocking device (TBD) for commucation facilities with low power and high frequency bandwidth. Conventional protection devices have some problems such as low frequency bandwidth, low energy capacity and high remnant voltage. In order to improve these limitations, the new TBD, which consists of a gas tube, avalanche diodes and junction type field effect transistors (JFETs), was designed and fabricated JFETs were used as an active non-linear element and a high speed switching diode with low capacitance limits high current. Therefore the avalanche diodes with low energy capacity are protected from the high current, and the TBD has a very small input capacitance. From the performance test using surge generator, which can produce 1.2/50${\mu}\textrm{s}$ 4.2 k$V_{max}$, 8/20${\mu}\textrm{s}$ 2.1 kA$\sub$max/, it is confirmed that the proposed TBD has an excellent protection performance in tight clamping voltage and limiting current characteristics.

  • This paper deals with the design rule and performance results of the transient voltage blocking devices (TBD) for low-voltage mains on shipboard. The proposed TBD consists of metal oxide varistors (MOV) and L-C filter to improve noise-elimination performance. Three kinds of TBDs are fabricated and tested by using a combination surge generator which can produce the standard impulse current of 8/20${\mu}$s 2.1kA. As a reults, the proposed TBD with series L-C filter has more excellent transient blocking and noise reduction performance than the conventional TBDs.

  • Vision-based collision avoidance system for air traffic management requires a excellent multiple target detection algorithm under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) levels. The track-before-detect (TBD) approaches have significant applications such as detection of small and dim targets from an image sequence. In this paper, two detection algorithms with the TBD approaches are proposed to satisfy the multiple target detection requirements. The first algorithm, based on a dynamic programming approach, is designed to classify multiple targets by using a k-means clustering algorithm. In the second approach, a hidden Markov model (HMM) is slightly modified for detecting multiple targets sequentially. Both of the proposed approaches are used in numerical simulations with variations in target appearance properties to provide satisfactory performance as multiple target detection methods.

  • Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute The observation of particles and waves using a single satellite inherently suffers from space-time ambiguity. Recently, such ambiguity has often been resolved by multi-satellite observations; however, the inter-satellite distances were generally larger than 100 km. Hence, the ambiguity could be resolved only for large-scale (> 100 km) structures while numerous microscale phenomena have been observed at low altitude satellite orbits. In order to resolve those spatial and temporal variations of the microscale plasma structures on the topside ionosphere, SNIPE mission consisted of four (TBD) nanosatellites (~10 kg) will be launched into a polar orbit at an altitude of 700 km (TBD). Two pairs of satellites will be deployed on orbit and the distances between each satellite will be from 10 to 100 km controlled by a formation flying algorithm. The SNIPE mission is equipped with scientific payloads which can measure the following geophysical parameters: density/temperature of cold ionospheric electrons, energetic (~100 keV) electron flux, and magnetic field vectors. All the payloads will have high temporal resolution (~ 16 Hz (TBD)). This mission is planned to launch in 2020. The SNIPE mission aims to elucidate microscale (100 m-10 km) structures in the topside ionosphere (below altitude of 1,000 km), especially the fine-scale morphology of high-energy electron precipitation, cold plasma density/temperature, field-aligned currents, and electromagnetic waves. Hence, the mission will observe microscale structures of the following phenomena in geospace: high-latitude irregularities, such as polar-cap patches; field-aligned currents in the auroral oval; electro-magnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves; hundreds keV electrons' precipitations, such as electron microbursts; subauroral plasma density troughs; and low-latitude plasma irregularities, such as ionospheric blobs and bubbles. We have developed a 6U nanosatellite bus system as the basic platform for the SNIPE mission. Three basic plasma instruments shall be installed on all of each spacecraft, Particle Detector (PD), Langmuir Probe (LP), and Scientific MAGnetometer (SMAG). In addition we now discuss with NASA and JAXA to collaborate with the other payload opportunities into SNIPE mission.

  • This study was aimed to disclose the prevalence rate of tick-borne pathogens from ticks collected from cattle and wild animals in Tanzania in 2012. Ticks were collected from slaughtered cattle and dead wild animals from November 5 to December 23, 2012 and identified. PCR for detecting Anaplasmataceae, Piroplamidae, Rickettsiaceae, Borrelia spp., and Coxiella spp. were done. Among those tested, Rickettsiaceae, Piroplasmidae, and Anaplasmataceae, were detected in ticks from the 2 regions. Rickettsiaceae represented the major tick-borne pathogens of the 2 regions. Ticks from animals in Maswa were associated with a higher pathogen detection rate compared to that in ticks from Iringa. In addition, a higher pathogen detection rate was observed in ticks infesting cattle than in ticks infesting wild animals. All examined ticks of the genus Amblyomma were infected with diverse pathogens. Ticks of the genera Rhipicephalus and Hyalomma were infected with 1 or 2 pathogens. Collectively, this study provides important information regarding differences in pathogen status among various regions, hosts, and tick species in Tanzania. Results in this study will affect the programs to prevent tick-borne diseases (TBD) of humans and livestock in Tanzania.

  • In this work, sample loss of reduced sulfur compounds (RSC) was investigated with respect to bag sampling techniques. For comparison purpose, calibration slopes were obtained by analyzing standards prepared by 'within syringe dilution' (WSD) method against those made either by 'Tedlar bag dilution' (TBD) or by 'polyester aluminum bag dilution' (PBD) method. The results indicated that the recovery rate of TBD showed the mean values of about 87%, while those of PBD about 77%. Despite the fact that sample loss is inevitable, precise sampling of reduced sulfur compounds may still be possible, if one acknowledges and be prepared for such loss rates of bag sampling methods.
