  • A regenerative cooling system has been designed through empirical 1-D analysis for a liquid rocket engine of 30-ton-level thrust. The hot-gas-side wall temperature from 1-D analysis shows 100K difference compared to 3D CFD analysis. Two variations of design with same cooling performance are suggested for different maximum channel widths i.e., 4mm and 2mm. The coolant pressure drop of the latter design is higher by 20%. The maximum liner temperature is about 700K when TBC and the thermal resistance of carbon deposit are considered. So film cooling is recommended to increase the cooling capacity as the present cooling capacity is insufficient

  • Inthis paper, we design 4$\times$4 optical star coupler with tapered coupling structure. The 4$\times$4 optical star coupler consists of four 3dB couplers and a 100% coupler with tapered structure. This star coupler is designed by the 2 dimension FD-BPM(finite difference beam propagation method) using TBC(transparent boundary condition). consequently, the maximum power unbalance ratios of relative output power from each of the output waveguides for each of input guides are less than 0.1dB, and the transmission efficiency is more than 99%.

  • The aim of this study was to develop a portable electronic nose system for freshness measurement of stored pork. An electronic nose system was constructed using seven different MOS sensor array. To determine the quality change of pork with storage time, the samples were divided into ten groups in terms of storage time with an increment of 2 day up to 19 storage days. GC-MS, total bacteria's count (TBC), thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS), and pH analyses as well as the analysis of the electronic nose system measurement were performed to monitor the freshness change of the samples. To investigate the performance of the electronic nose system for detecting the change of freshness of pork, the acquired signal values of the system were compared with those of GC-MS, TBC, TBARS, and pH analysis values. According to principal component analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) with the signals of the electronic nose system for the pork samples, the sample groups were clearly separated into two groups of 1-9 days and 11-19 days, and four groups of 1-3 days, 5-9 days, 11 days, and 13-19 days respectively. The results show that the electronic nose system has potential for evaluating freshness of pork.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the freshness of chicken meat during 19 d of storage at $4^{\circ}C$ using a portable electronic nose. The portable system consisted of six different metal oxide sensors and a moisture sensor. Determination of volatile compounds with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, total bacterial count (TBC), and 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) monitored the quality change of the samples. These results were compared with the results measured by the electronic nose system. TBC and TBARS measurements could be separated into five groups and seven groups, respectively, among ten groups. According to principal component analysis and linear discriminant analysis with the signals of the portable electronic nose, the sample groups could be clearly separated into eight groups and nine groups, respectively, among ten groups. The portable electronic nose demonstrated potential for evaluating freshness of stored chicken.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) effect for pH values affecting Berkshire meat quality. A total of 39,603 SNPs from 1,978 heads after quality control and 882 pH values were used estimate SNP effect by single step genomic best linear unbiased prediction (ssGBLUP) method. The average physical distance between adjacent SNP pairs was 61.7kbp and the number and proportion of SNPs whose minor allele frequency was below 10% were 9,573 and 24.2%, respectively. The average of observed heterozygosity and polymorphic information content was 0.32 ± 0.16 and 0.26 ± 0.11, respectively and the estimate for average linkage disequilibrium was 0.40. The heritability of pH45m and pH24h were 0.10 and 0.15 respectively. SNPs with an absolute value more than 4 standard deviations from the mean were selected as threshold markers, among the selected SNPs, protein-coding genes of pH45m and pH24h were detected in 6 and 4 SNPs, respectively. The distribution of coding genes were detected at pH45m and were detected at pH24h.

  • Gas turbine combustors is critical part due to high temperature operating conditions and the optimization of cooling design is required to avoid combustor failure. In gas turbine combustor, effusion cooling, impingement cooling and thermal barrier coating (TBC) are commonly used to improve cooling characteristics. In conceptual design, these cooling schemes are designed by 1D heat transfer calculation. Therefore, these design should be validated ted by nemurical or experiment methods. In this study, Conjugate Heat Transfer (CHT) analysis is performed for validation of gas turbine combustor cooling design.

  • The twenty seven wrap-up vegetables (13 Compositae, 14 Brassicaceae) and seven herbs (6 Labiatae, 1 Umbelliferae) were cultivated with a deep flow technique (DFT) hydroponic beds and treated with 3 levels of nutrient solution concentrations of 1.2, 2.4, and $3.6dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in summer and autumn season. The pH and electrical conductivity (EC) change of nutrient solution, fresh weight, and mineral contents of plants were investigated. The pH was maintained lower in high electrical conductivity (EC) treatment and in summer than autumn. EC of nutrient solution in EC $3.6dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ treatment increased up to $4.8dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ during the growing period in summer season. The growth of tested plants showed high variations by plant species and nutrient solution concentrations. The coefficient variation (CV) of the shoot fresh weight of plants was higher in summer than autumn. The growth of Compostiae and herbs was better at EC $1.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, and 14 Brassicaceae was better at EC $2.4dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in summer. In autumn, the growth was better at EC $2.4dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in all plants except kale 'TBC F1' and red rape 'honchaetae'. In mineral contents, total nitrogen and potassium were higher in autumn than summer. Total nitrogen, potassium, calcium, magnesium were higher in Brassicaceae than others. Iron and manganese, however, were higher in Compositae. As the results, this study suggests that mixed planting of 27 wrap-up vegetables and 7 herbs in DFT hydroponics in two seasons was possible and EC $1.2dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in summer and EC $2.4dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ in autumn be recommended as for the nutrient solution concentration to produce them safely year round.

  • 1,3-butadiene is classified as suspected human carcinogen, group A2(American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists, ACGIH). In Korea, 1,3-butadiene has been used as a raw material; monomer, homopolymer, polybutadiene latex, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS) and styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR), in the petrochemistry and precision chemistry industry. As petrochemistry industry in Korea has been developed, the potential exposure possibility of 1,3-butadiene to workers can be increased. Therefore the purpose of this study is to evaluate airborne 1,3-butadiene concentration and workers' exposure levels in the workplace using 1,3-butadiene. Air samples were collected with 4-tert-butyl catechol(TBC) charcoal tube(100 mg/50 mg) and were analyzed by gas chromatograph/flame ionization detector(GC/FID) according to the Choi's method(2002). Geometric mean (GM) and arithmetic mean (AM) of total 59 workers' exposure concentrations to airborne 1.3-butadiene were 0.042 ppm and 1.51 ppm, respectively. Although most samples were lower than 1ppm, 2 samples(21.5ppm and 33.1ppm as 8hr-TWA) were exceeded the Korean standard(2ppm) over 10 times at the repair process in synthetic rubber and resin manufacture industry. 14 samples(41%) of total 34 short-term air samples were exceeded the Korean standard(10ppm as STEL) of Ministry Labor. 1,3-butadiene concentration(GM) in the synthetic rubber and resin manufacture industry(7.87ppm) was significantly higher than that in the monomer manufacure industry (0.35ppm)(p<0.05). Also in the sampling and repair process, each GM(range) was 1.39ppm(N.D.-469.6ppm) and 7.85ppm(N.D.-410.2ppm). In conclusion, it depends on the industry and process, 1,3-butadiene can be exposed to workers as high concentration for short-term.
