  • The-steady-state creep mechanism and behavior of Zircaloy-4 used as cladding materials in PWR have been investigated in air environment over the temp, ranges from 600 to $645^{\circ}C$ and stress ranges from 4 to $7kg/mm^2$. The stress exponents for the creep deformation of this alloy, n were decreased 4.81, 4.71, 4.64, and 4.56 at 600, 615, 630 and $645^{\circ}C$, respectively; the stress exponents decreased with increasing the temperature and got closer to about 5. The apparent activation energies, Q, were 62.1, 60.0, 57.9 and 55.4 kcal/mole at stresses of 4, 5, 6, $7kg/mm^2$, respectively; the activation energies decreased with increasing the stress and were close to those of volume self diffusion of Zr in Zr-Sn-Fe-Cr system. In results, it can be considered that the creep deformation for Zircaloy-4 was controlled by the dislocation climb over the ranges of this experimental conditions. Larson-Miller parameter, P, for the crept specimens was obtained as P=(T+460)(logt,+23). The failure plane observed by SEM slightly showed up intergranular fracture at this experiment ranges. However, it was essentially dominated by the dimple phenomenon, which was a characteristics of the transgranular fracture.

  • The effect of grain size on the deformation induced martensite transformation and mechanical properties in austenitic stainless steel with high amount of Mn was studied. a'-martensite was formed by deformation and deformation induced martensite was formed with surface relief. With increase of grain size, volume fraction of deformation induced martensite was increased. With the increase in degree of cold rolling, hardness, and tensile strength was rapidly increased with linear relationship, while, elongation was decreased rapidly and then decreased slowly. With increase of grain size, hardness and tensile strength was rapidly increased with linear relationship, while elongation was decreased rapidly. The hardness, tensile strengths, and elongation were more strongly influenced by deformation induced martensite than the grain size.

  • Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the ad libitum and restricted feeding regimen on fasting heat production (FHP) and body composition. Methods: Twelve Hubbard broilers breeders were selected with the same body weight and submitted in two feeding regimes: Restricted (T1) with feed intake of 150 g/bird/d and ad libitum (T2). The birds were randomly distributed on the treatments in two runs with three replications per treatment (per run). The birds were adapted to the feed regimens for ten days. After that, they were allocated in the open-circuit chambers and kept for three days for adaptation. On the last day, oxygen consumption (VO2) and carbon dioxide production (VCO2) were measured by 30 h under fasting. The respiratory quotient (RQ) was calculated as the VCO2/VO2 ratio, and the heat production (HP) was obtained using the Brower equation (1985). The FHP was estimated throughout the plateau of HP 12 hours after the feed deprivation. The body composition was analyzed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scanning at the end of each period. Data were analyzed for one-way analysis of variance using the Minitab software. Results: The daily feed intake was 30 g higher to T2 (p<0.01) than the T1. Also, the birds of the T2 had significatively (p<0.05) more oxygen consumption (+3.1 L/kg0.75/d) and CO2 production (+2.2 L/kg0.75/d). That resulted in a higher FHP 359±14 kJ/kg0.75/d for T2 than T1 296±17.23 kJ/kg0.75/d. In contrast, the RQ was not different between treatments, with an average of 0.77 for the fasting condition. In addition, protein and fat composition were not affected by the treatment, while a tendency (p<0.1) was shown to higher bone mineral content on the T1. Conclusion: The birds under ad libitum feeding had a higher maintenance energy requirement but their body composition was not affected compared to restricted feeding.

  • When Radiofrequency energy is applied to the human body, the vibration width is very short. Therefore, the electrolyte burn generated when using the direct current does not occur. Ion molecules, polarized molecules, etc., vibrate more than 40,000 times per second, converting them into frictional heat to generate deep heat. The blood flow of capillaries increases 4-5 times more than at rest, increasing the supply of oxygen, nutrients, antibodies, and white blood cells. In addition, the electrochemical reaction does not occur because the vibration width and the pulsation period are very short. It is a physical factor treatment method that does not stimulate the sensory nerves and motor nerves. In this study, an isotonic exercise is performed in a young normal adult using a Radiofrequency pain treatment device. The purpose of this study is to integrate rehabilitation therapy by measuring electromyography data during isotonic exercise and confirming the effect on changes in motor neuron response. The EMG data generated when isotonic exercise of the forearm biceps muscle and the EMG data measured after the use of a Radiofrequency pain treatment device after exercise were RMS, respectively, and verified through t-test. It was confirmed that there was a significant difference in both men and women because the t-value was smaller than the significance level p (<.05).

  • The morphological changes of primary solid particles as a fuction of process time on Al-Si alloys during semi-solid state processing with a shear rate of 200s were studied. In hypereutectic Al-15.5wt%Si alloy, it was observed that primary Si crystals are fragmented in the early stage of stirring and morphologies of primary Si crystals change from faceted to spherical during isothermal shearing for 60 minutes. In quaternary Al-12.5wt%Si-2.9wt%Cu-0.7wt%Mg alloy system, it was observed both primary silicon and ${\alpha}$-alumunum particles. Microstructural evolution of primary Si crystals was similar to that of the hypereutectic Al-Si alloy but equiaxed ${\alpha}$-Al dendrites are broken into nearly spherical at the early stage of shearing and later stage of the isothermal shearing ${\alpha}$- Al particles are slightly coarsoned by Ostwald ripening. Mechanical properties of Al-Si-Cu-Mg alloy were compared to those from other processes (squeeze casting and gravity casting). After T6 heat treatment, comparable values of hardness were obtained while slightly lower compressive strength values were observed in rheocast alloy. The elongation, on the other hand, exhibited significant increasement of 15% over gravity cast alloy.

  • Following Silicon Carbide, single crystal diamond continues to attract attention as a next-generation semiconductor substrate material. In addition to excellent physical properties, large area and productivity are very important for semiconductor substrate materials. Research on the increase in area and productivity of single crystal diamonds has been carried out using various devices such as HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) and MPECVD (Microwave Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition). We hit the limits of growth rate and internal defects. However, HFCVD (Hot Filament Chemical Vapor Deposition) can be replaced due to the previous problem. In this study, HFCVD confirmed the distance between the substrate and the filament, the accompanying growth rate, the surface shape, and the Raman shift of the substrate after vapor deposition according to the vapor deposition temperature change. As a result, it was confirmed that the difference in the growth rate of the single crystal substrate due to the change in the vapor deposition temperature was gained up to 5 times, and that as the vapor deposition temperature increased, a large amount of polycrystalline diamond tended to be generated on the surface.

  • The sub micron sized spherical $MgB_2$ powders were synthesized by spray reaction method. $MgB_2$ tapes with Al addition were fabricated by Powder in Tube (PIT) method. The superconducting property and microstructure of Al doped $MgB_2$ tapes were characterized by X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy and transport measurement under magnetic field. The $J_c$ value of $MgB_2$ tapes was increased with 10 vol. % Al addition. The $J_c$ value of 5,500 A/$cm^2$ and 11,000 A/$cm^2$ at 4.2 K and 5 T were obtained for the $MgB_2$ tape and 10 vol. % of Al added $MgB_2$ tape without heat treatment, respectively. The $J_c$ value of 8,000 A/$cm^2$ and 33,000 A/$cm^2$ at 4.2 K and 5 T were obtained for the $MgB_2$ tape and 10 vol. % of Al added $MgB_2$ tape with heat treatment, respectively. The $J_c$-B curves show enhancement in $J_c$ (B), which suggests that the microstructure and transport properties of $MgB_2$ tapes have been improved with Al addition.

  • For the aerospace structural application of high-strength 2xxx series aluminum alloys, stress corrosion cracking(SCC) behavior in aggressive environments needs to be well understood. In this study, the SCC sensitivities of 2024-T62, 2124-T851 and 2050-T84 alloys in a 3.5 % NaCl solution are measured using a constant load testing method without polarization and a slow strain rate test(SSRT) method at a strain rate of 10-6 /sec under a cathodic applied potential. When the specimens are exposed to a 3.5 % NaCl solution under a constant load for 10 days, the decrease in tensile ductility is negligible for 2124-T851 and 2050-T84 specimens, proving that T8 heat treatment is beneficial in improving the SCC resistance of 2xxx series aluminum alloys. The specimens are also susceptible to SCC in a hydrogen-generating environment at a slow strain rate of $10^{-6}/sec$ in a 3.5 % NaCl solution under a cathodic applied potential. Regardless of the test method, low impurity 2124-T851 and high Cu/Mg ratio 2050-T84 alloys are found to have relatively lower SCC sensitivity than 2024-T62. The SCC behavior of 2xxx series aluminum alloys in the 3.5 % NaCl solution is discussed based on fractographic and micrographic observations.
