Recently, Cesarean Section has been revealed as major events in maternity nursing, because it has influence on tile formatter of the self concept of cesarean section mothers as well as later coping mechanism and mother-child relationship including the mothering role. The study is conducted to clarify the relationships between the perceired family support and the self concept of cesarean section mothers, and to find out other Influencing factors on the formation of the self concept. Measuring instrument used in this study was Lee's scale to measure the self concept and the degree of perceived family support of the cesarean section mothers, The subject were 155 cesarean section mothers who were selected conveniently. Volunteers answered self reporting questionnaires which asked about their self concept. Data was analyzed as follows using SAS. The relationship between scores of the self concept and degree of the perceived family support was analyzed by Pearson's product moment correlation. In order to identify the influencing effects of demographic variables on the formation of self concept & F test were used. Result were summarized as follows : 1. Scores of self concept of cesarean section mothers were significantly correlated with scores of the perceived family support (r=0.3438, p<0.01) These results show that the family support is closely related to the self concept of cesarean mothers and has positive effects on their coping capacity. 2. Scores of self-concept of those who have lower ducation background and are multipara were significantly higher than those who have higher education background and are primipara(M=29.90$\pm$9.37, 27.69$\pm$3.89, t=2.006, df=105.8, p=0.0480: M=27.75$\pm$3.49. 29.46$\pm$8.68, t=-1.7183, 2. p=0.08).
Purpose: The study aimed to determine the effect of extra thoracic mobilization exercises on shoulder pain and function in patients who had undergone rotator cuff repair. Methods: Following the recording of baseline measurements, 20 subjects who had undergone rotator cuff repair were randomized into two groups: the experimental group (n = 10), which did thoracic mobilization exercises, and the control group (n = 10), which received traditional physical therapy. Each group participated in the intervention five times per week for two weeks. The pain (using the visual analogue scales [VAS]), the flexion and abduction range of motion (ROM), and the shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI) scores of both groups were recorded pre- and post-intervention. Paired t-tests were used to determine whether post-intervention scores were significantly different from pre-intervention scores, and independent t-tests were used to analyze differences in the dependent variables between the two groups. Results: After the two-week intervention, both groups experienced significantly decreased VAS and SPADI scores (p < 0.05) and significantly increased flexion and abduction ROM (p < 0.05). The experimental group that undertook the thoracic mobilization exercises showed greater improvements in pain, flexion and abduction ROM, and the SPADI than the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These results suggest that thoracic mobilization exercises reduce shoulder pain and disability and enhance function in patients who have undergone rotator cuff repair.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the visual acuity and the degree of vision-related knowledge and behaviors of the 1st and 2nd graders of primary school and their parents in a city. The research design was a descriptive study and the subjects were 579 pupils and their parents in Namwon City, Chonbuk province. Children's vision screening was conducted with Han's test by author, school nurse according to the guidelines. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, S.D., t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, $x^2$-test with SAS program. Subnormal visual acuity group (SVAG) in children was 17.3%, and was higher in girls and in the 2nd graders, but there were no significant differences statistically. The mean score of the vision-related knowledge in children was 6.8 points out of 10 points and that of vision-related behaviors was 23.5 points out of 33 points. The mean scores of the vision-related knowledge were significantly higher in 2nd graders (p= .02), in girls (p= .02) and SVAG (p= .01) and the group of high scores in vision-related knowledge presented significantly high scores in vision-related behaviors (p= .001). The mean score of the vision-related knowledge in parents was 6.4 points out of 10 points and that of vision-related behaviors was 28.4 points out of 33 points. The group with high scores of vision-related knowledge in parents presented significantly high scores in vision-related behaviors (p= .003). As SVAG were higher in 2nd graders and the group of high scores of vision-related knowledge showed also high scores in vision-related behaviors in both children and their parents, From the above results, the author suggests a school-based visual health program for them.

Direct removal of beak-type ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament at thoracic spine (T-OPLL) is a challenging surgical technique due to the potential risk of neural injury. Slipping off the cutting surface of a high-speed drill may result in entrapment in neural structures, leading to serious complications. Removal of T-OPLL with an ultrasonic osteotome, utilizing back and forth micro-motion of a blade rather than rotatory-motion of drill, may reduce such complications. We have applied the ultrasonic osteotome for posterior circumferential decompression of T-OPLL for three consecutive patients with beak-type OPLL and have described the surgical techniques and patient outcomes. The preoperative chief complaint was gait disturbance in all patients. Japanese orthopedic association scores (JOA) was used for functional assessment. Scores measured 2/11, 5/11, 2/11, and 4/11 for each patient. The ventral T-OPLL mass was exposed after posterior midline approach, laminotomy and transeversectomy. The T-OPLL mass was directly removed with an ultrasonic osteotome and instrumented segmental fixation was performed. The surgeries were uneventful. Detailed surgical techniques were presented. Gait disturbance was improved in all patients. Dural tear occurred in one patient without squeal. Postoperative JOA was 6/11, 10/11, 8/11, and 8/11 (recovery rate; 44%, 83%, 67%, and 43%) respectively at 18, 18, 10, and 1 months postoperative. T-OPLL was completely removed in all patients as confirmed with computed tomography scan. We hope that surgical difficulties in direct removal of T-OPLL might be reduced by utilizing ultrasonic osteotome.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects on knowledge and performance confidence of nursing students in the emergency care of patients with dyspnea after simulation education using a human simulator. Method: The research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. For the experimental group the human simulator was used to provide simulation. Also included were base learning with audio-visual material, explanations about simulation, using SimMan for human simulation, and debriefing. Pre and post-tests were conducted to compare differences in knowledge and performance confidence. Result: The (t=3.83, p<.000) than the control group. For the experimental group, the differences in pretest-posttest scores for knowledge (t=2.30, p=.025) and performance confidence (t=4.28, p<.000) were significantly higher than the experimental group had significantly higher scores for knowledge (t=3.03, p=.004) and performance confidence (t=3.83, p<.001knowledge (t=2.30, p=.025) and performance confidence (t=4.28, p<.000) were significantly higher than the control group. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that for student nurses, knowledge and performance confidence in emergency care of patients with dyspnea improve with human simulator simulation education. Further study is suggested to develop other scenarios for emergency care and identify the effects of critical thinking and satisfaction when using human simulator simulation education.
Purpose: This descriptive study compared the perceived parental stress levels between parents with very low birth weight infants (VLBWIs) and nurses in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Methods: In total, 83 parents of VLBWIs and 78 NICU nurses were enrolled. Data were collected with the Parental Stress Scale (PSS) and analyzed using the t-test and analysis of variance in SAS version 9.4. Results: The average PSS score was 3.31 among parents and 3.45 among nurses. The stress score was significantly higher among nurses with children (t=2.46, p=.016) and senior nurses (t=2.12, p=.037). There was a significant difference in the stress score according to parents' education (t=3.29, p=.002) and occupation (F=3.14, p=.049) in the sights and sounds subscale. Mothers had significantly higher stress scores than fathers in the parental role alterations subscale (t=2.32, p=.023). Parental stress scores were higher than those perceived by nurses in the infant's appearance and behaviors subscale for breathing patterns (t=2.95, p=.004), followed by jerky/ restless behavior (t=2.70, p=.008). Conclusion: Nurses should provide explanations to parents of VLBWIs in order to reduce parental stress about the appearances and behavior of VLBWIs. This is more important than aspect of the NICU environment and education about parental roles.
Purpose: This study was conducted to develop a program to help emergency nurses overcome compassion fatigue, and to analyze the effects of the program. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. There were 14 participants in the experimental group and 18 subjects in the control group. The program was comprised of five, weekly 80-minute sessions including understanding and assessment of compassion fatigue, enhancing positive affect, balancing work-life, planning self care, training in relaxation techniques and cognitive restructuring, and getting social support. Research variables were ego-resiliency, compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue of the ProQOL 5, and salivary cortisol. Data were analyzed using Chi-square test, independent t-test, and paired t-test. Results: The first hypothesis, "There will be a difference in scores for ego resiliency between the experimental group and the control group". was not supported. The second hypothesis, "There will be a difference in scores for compassion satisfaction between the experimental group and the control group" was supported (t=2.15, p=.046). The third hypothesis, "There will be a difference in scores for compassion fatigue between the experimental group and the control group" was not supported. Conclusion: The first program for emergency nurses to overcome compassion fatigue in Korea was effective in increasing emergency nurses' compassion satisfaction and decreasing salivary cortisol level in the experimental group. Therefore, this program for overcoming compassion fatigue is useful to increase emergency nurses' compassion satisfaction. However replication studies of short-term intensive program reflecting emergency nurses' opinion are needed.
Background Perforations in the nasal septum (NSP) give rise not only to disintegration of the septum anatomy but also impairment in normal nasal physiology. The successes of these surgical techniques are usually equated to anatomical closure of the perforation. The goal of this study is to evaluate the subjective and objective results of our surgical technique for septal perforation surgery. Methods All NSPs in the six patients were closed by inferior turbinate flap. The Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) instrument was used to evaluate the preoperative and postoperative subjective sensation of nasal obstruction. Measurement of preoperative and postoperative nasal airway resistance was performed using active anterior rhinomanometry which is an objective test. Wilcoxson signed rank test and Spearman correlation test were used to analyze correlation between NOSE scores and rhinomanometric measurements. Results The full closure of the septal perforations was noted in 100% of patients. The total NOSE score was 14 preoperatively and one postoperatively. The improvement in NOSE scores was statistically significant ($P{\leq}0.002$). The mean preoperative total resistance (ResT150) value was $0.13Pa/cm^3s^{-1}$, which is below the normal range ($0.16-0.31Pa/cm^3s^{-1}$), while the mean postoperative ResT150 value was $0.27Pa/cm^3s^{-1}$. The correlation between the improvement in NOSE scores and improvements in ResT150 values was statistically significant. Conclusions Surgical approaches should aim to solve both the anatomical and physiological problems of NSP. The application of subjective and objective tests in the postoperative period will help surgeons assess the applied techniques.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the eating disorder, physical symptoms and mood status among college women. Data has been analyzed by SPSS/PC using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient. The results of this study are as follows : 1. The mean of body weight and height of the subjects were 52.74kg, 163.10cm. 2. Depending upon BMI, the obesity subjects were very rare(2.2%) and the rest(97.8%) were underweight or normal. 3. The total mean score of anorexia nervosa was higher than bulimia nervosa. 4. The total mean score of perceived physical symptoms was 20.68 and subjects in this study showed the tendency giving the highest core on the item of autonomic nerve system and mensural status. 5. The total mean score of mood status was 58.49. 6. The scores of eating behavior differed significantly by the BMI : The score was highest in the group of normal body weighted(t=5.75, p<.05). 7. The scores of physical symptoms differed significantly by the BMI : The score was highest in the group of the underweight(t=7.35, p<.01). 8. No significant difference was found on over all mood status scores according to the BMI. 9. There was high positive correlation between BMI and eating disorder(r=.1633, p<.01), between eating disorder and physical symptoms(r=.2497, p<.0001), between eating disorder and mood status(r=.2328, p<.0001), and between symptoms and mood status(r=.5051, p<.0001). From the results of this study, the eating disorder among college woman was very serious and the perception of their body weight was distorted. Therefore, to prevent the eating disorder, professional intervention is needed.

Objective : Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is an effective treatment for chronic neuropathic pain. However, its clinical efficacy in regard to specific types of pain has not been well studied. The primary objective of this study was to retrospectively analyze the clinical outcomes of paddle-type SCS according to the type of neuropathic pain. Methods : Seventeen patients who underwent paddle-lead SCS at our hospital were examined. Clinical outcomes were evaluated pre- and postoperatively (3 months, 1 year, and last follow-up) using the Neuropathic Pain Symptom Inventory (NPSI). The NPSI categorizes pain as superficial, deep, paroxysmal, evoked, or dysesthesia and assess the duration of the pain (pain time score). Changes in NPSI scores were compared with change in Visual analogue scale (VAS) scores. Results : After SCS, the pain time score improved by 45% (independent t-test, p=0.0002) and the deep pain score improved by 58% (independent t-test, p=0.001). Improvements in the pain time score significantly correlated with improvements in the VAS score (r=0.667, p=0.003, Spearman correlation). Additionally, the morphine milligram equivalent value was markedly lower after vs. before surgery (~49 mg, pared t-test, p=0.002). No preoperative value was associated with clinical outcome. Conclusion : The NPSI is a useful tool for evaluating the therapeutic effects of SCS. Chronic use of a paddle-type spinal cord stimulation improved the deep pain and the pain time scores.
