In this thesis we concerned with the degree of similarity in pairs of scores having a common mean and variance could express similarity in terms of the absolute difference between the standardized scores. We particulary discussed the distribution of absolute differences between pairs of T scores among many standardized scores and demonstrated the procedures for calculating the lower limit of Med(│d│) values i. e. the maximum possible similarity with medians and correlation coefficients of the equivalent form tests by using the folded normal distribution, although other researchers expressed the degree of similarity using only the standard normal distribution. We also described many cases how to use those techniques and to apply effectively them in real evaluation fields.

Poly(A)+ RNA was selected from Canavalia lineata root nodule RNA through oligo(dT) cellulose column and used for construction of a cDNA library using λgt10-EcoRI arms. The size of the library was 7.2$\times$105 pfu/mL. A full length leghemoglobin (Lb) cDNA clone, pCILb1(687 bp) isolated with soybean Lb probe, contained one open reading frame (ORF) of 447 bp with 54 bp plus 186 bp at 5' and 3' untranslated region, respectively. A consensus sequence of plant translation start region (AAAATGGG) was found at 5' untranslated region, and two polyadenylation-related sequence (AATAAA, AATAAG) and a conserved motif between them (gACTTGTT) were found upstream of poly(A)+ tail consisted of 13 (A)s at 3' untranslated region. The ORF encoded a polypeptide consisted of 149 amino acids with a molecular weight of 16.2 kD. Deduced amino acid sequences showed high degree of homology values with those of other Lbs ranging from 66% (Casuarina glauca) to 85% (Glycine max).

This paper presents an easily used graphical procedure for simultaneous estimation of the index, skewness, scale, and location parameters of the stable laws. First, the index $\alpha$ and skewness $\beta$ are estimated through the joint use of a tail length statistic $\widetilde{K_t}$ and a skewness statistic $\widetilde{K_s}$, both of which are functions of order statistics. Next, the function of order statistics needed for estimation of scale $\sigma$ and location $\mu$ are determined from a nomogram indexed on the estimates of $\alpha$ and $\beta$. Some applications and examples are provided.

A 65-year-old woman presented with a history of severe lower back pain on forward-flexion for 2 months duration. Magnetic resonance Imaging revealed a high signal mass with a tail on T1-weighted images at the L3 level. A total surgical resection was performed via a posterior approach with the aid of a microscope. Histopathological examination of the tumor revealed two pathological components : lipoma and myxopapillary ependymoma. The presence of dual histological components in one spinal cord tumor is rare. There are no prior reports of both types of cells [adipose and ependymal] grown simultaneously in a single tumor of the filum terminale in the medical literature. We report a unique case of the co-existence of lipoma and myxopapillary ependymoma within the same tumor located at the filum terminale and review related literature.

$^{11}B$ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements have been performed to investigate electronic structures and vortex states of $M_gB_2$ superconductor. The central transition shows a narrow peak down to 25 K at 3.15 T. Below 25 K, an extra line starts to show up and dominates. The extra line is broad and asymmetric with a long tail in the high frequency side, which confirms that this originates from vortex pinning below the irreversibility temperature. From temperature evolution of the fraction and linewidth of the broad portion, temperature dependence of coherence length and penetration depth are extracted.

This paper presents the design of a new turn-off gate drive circuit for GTO which can accomplish faster turn-off switching. The major disadvantage of the conventional turn-off gate drive technique is that it has a difficulty in realizing high negative diS1GQT/dt because of VS1RGM(maximum reverse gate voltage) and stray inductances of turn-off gate drive circuit[1~2]. The new trun-off gate drive technique can overcome this problem by adding another turn-off gate drive circuit to the conventional turn-off gate drive circuit. Simulation and experimental results of the new turn-off gate drive circuit in conjunction with chopper circuit verify a faster turn-off switching performance.

We solve the momentum resolved d-wave Eliashberg equation employing the magnetic excitation spectrum from the inelastic neutron scattering on the LSCO superconductors reported by Vignolle et al. The magnetic excitation spectrum exhibits 2 peaks: a sharp incommensurate peak at 18 meV at momentum (${\pi}$, ${\pi}{\pm}{\delta}$) and (${\pi}{\pm}{\delta}$, ${\pi}$) and another broad peak near 40~70 meV at momentum (${\pi}$, ${\pi}$). Above 70 meV, the magnetic excitation spectrum has a long tail that is shaped into a circle centered at (${\pi}$, ${\pi}$) with ${\delta}$. The sign of the real part of the self-energy is determined by the momentum position of the peaks of the magnetic excitation spectrum and bare dispersion. We will discuss the effects of the each component of the magnetic excitation spectrum on the self-energy, the pairing self-energy.

In this paper new results are obtained for multivariate processes which help us to identify weak negative orthant dependent(WNOD) structures among hitting times of the processes. Furthermore, an approach to derive dependence properties among the processes is proposed and a partial solution to the question tat what kinds of the dependence properties, when they are imposed on processes, are reflected as analogous properties of corresponding hitting times is give. Examples are given to illustrate these concepts.

Identification of wave characteristics during current disruption events in the near-Earth geomagnetic tail region (~ 10 RE) is important to understand the substorm onset mechanism. In this paper, linear stability analysis in the ion-cyclotron grequency range, considering temperature anisotropy and cross-field flow is presented. It is found that the ion-cyclotron drift waves propagating in a quasi-perpendicular direction with respect to the ambient magnetic field are characterized by low frequencies ($\omega$ < $0.5{\Omega}ci$), while quasi-parallel waves have frequencies close to the ion-cyclotron frequency ($\omega{\sim}{\Omega}ci$). This finding is consistent with the observation by THEMIS spacecraft of a current disruption event in which a similar high- and low-frequency band structure is also present [A. T. Y. Lui, et al., J. Geophys. Res. 113, A00C06 (2008)]. It is also found that the quasi-perpendicular mode is excited by the ion cross-field flow.

This study comprised 13 cases having canine perianal adenoma at Veterinary Medical T~aching Hospital, Seoul National University from January 2000 to October 2003. All referred dogs were intact male and mean age of dogs was 11.5 years (ranged from 7 to 15 years). The most prevalent breed was Shih Tzu. The clinical signs were presence of 1 to 5 cm in diameter firm mass, perianal swelling, hemorrhage, pain and dyschezia. The masses were located either in the perineum (12 cases) or tail (5 cases). Five dogs had masses with ulceration. Concurrent prostatomegaly and seminoma was found in 5 and 1, respectively. Castration was performed in 5 cases. In 8 cases, surgical excision of the tumor was performed with castration. There was no recurrence in all cases after removal. In all cases with castration, perianal adenomas were regressed within 1-2 months. In one case among them, excision of the tumor was also performed because of persistent ulceration. According to these clinical results, perianal adenoma excellently responded to castration with or without surgical excision of the tumor.
