  • This paper analyze the characteristics of three multipliers in finite fields GF(2m) from the point of view of processing time and area complexity. First, we analyze structure of three multipliers; 1) LSB-first systolic array, 2) LFSR structure, and 3) CA structure. To make performance analysis, each multiplier was modeled in VHDL and was synthesized for FPGA implementation. The simulation results show that LFSR structure is best from the point of view of area complexity, and LSB systolic array is best from the point of view of processing time per clock.

  • In this paper, we propose a multiplexer based scheme that performs modular AB2 multiplication using redundant basis over finite field. Then we propose an efficient multiplexer based semi-systolic AB2 multiplier using proposed scheme. We derive a method that allows the multiplexers to perform the operations in the cell of the modular AB2 multiplier. The cell of the multiplier is implemented using multiplexers to reduce cell latency. As compared to the existing related structures, the proposed AB2 multiplier saves about 80.9%, 61.8%, 61.8%, and 9.5% AT complexity of the multipliers of Liu et al., Lee et al., Ting et al., and Kim-Kim, respectively. Therefore, the proposed multiplier is well suited for VLSI implementation and can be easily applied to various applications.

  • Finite field operations have played an important role in error correcting codes and cryptosystems. Recently, the necessity of efficient computation processing is increasing for security in cyber physics systems. Therefore, efficient implementation of finite field arithmetics is more urgently needed. These operations include addition, multiplication, division and inversion. Addition is very simple and can be implemented with XOR operation. The others are somewhat more complicated than addition. Among these operations, multiplication is the most important, since time-consuming operations, such as exponentiation, division, and computing multiplicative inverse, can be performed through iterative multiplications. In this paper, we propose a multiplexer based parallel computation algorithm that performs Montgomery multiplication over finite field using redundant basis. Then we propose an efficient multiplexer based semi-systolic multiplier over finite field using redundant basis. The proposed multiplier has less area-time (AT) complexity than related multipliers. In detail, the AT complexity of the proposed multiplier is improved by approximately 19% and 65% compared to the multipliers of Kim-Han and Choi-Lee, respectively. Therefore, our multiplier is suitable for VLSI implementation and can be easily applied as the basic building block for various applications.

  • In this paper we, implement LSB-first digit-serial systolic multiplier for computing modular multiplication $A({\times})B$mod G ({\times})in finite fields GF $(2^m)$. If input data come in continuously, the implemented multiplier can produce multiplication results at a rate of one every [m/L] clock cycles, where L is the selected digit size. The analysis results show that the proposed architecture leads to a reduction of computational delay time and it has more simple structure than existing digit-serial systolic multiplier. Furthermore, since the propose architecture has the features of regularity, modularity, and unidirectional data flow, it shows good extension characteristics with respect to m and L.

  • This paper presents a MSB-first digit-serial systolic array for computing modular multiplication of A(x)B(x) mod G(x) in finite fields $GF(2^m)$. From the MSB-first multiplication algorithm in $GF(2^m)$, we obtain a new data dependence graph and design an efficient digit-serial systolic multiplier. For circuit synthesis, we obtain VHDL code for multiplier, If input data come in continuously, the implemented multiplier can produce multiplication results at a rate of one every [m/L] clock cycles, where L is the selected digit size. The analysis results show that the proposed architecture leads to a reduction of computational delay time and it has much more simple structure than existing digit-serial systolic multiplier. Furthermore, since the propose architecture has the features of unidirectional data flow and regularity, it shows good extension characteristics with respect to m and L.

  • Many cryptographic and error control coding algorithms rely on finite field GF(2m) arithmetic. Hardware implementation of these algorithms needs an efficient realization of finite field arithmetic operations. Finite field multiplication is complicated among the basic operations, and it is employed in field exponentiation and division operations. Various algorithms and architectures are proposed in the literature for hardware implementation of finite field multiplication to achieve a reduction in area and delay. In this paper, a low area and delay efficient semi-systolic multiplier over finite fields GF(2m) using the modified Montgomery modular multiplication (MMM) is presented. The least significant bit (LSB)-first multiplication and two-level parallel computing scheme are considered to improve the cell delay, latency, and area-time (AT) complexity. The proposed method has the features of regularity, modularity, and unidirectional data flow and offers a considerable improvement in AT complexity compared with related multipliers. The proposed multiplier can be used as a kernel circuit for exponentiation/division and multiplication.

  • Most public key cryptosystems are constructed based on a modular exponentiation, which is further decomposed into a series of modular multiplications. We design a new systolic array multiplier to speed up modular multiplication using Montgomery algorithm. This multiplier with simple circuit for each processing element will save about 14% logic gates of hardware and 20% execution time compared with previous one.

  • In this paper, an efficient digit-serial systolic array is proposed for multiplication in finite field GF($2^m$) using the polynomial basis representation. The proposed systolic array is based on the most significant digit first (MSD-first) multiplication algorithm and produces multiplication results at a rate of one every "m/D" clock cycles, where D is the selected digit size. Since the inner structure of the proposed multiplier is tree-type, critical path increases logarithmically proportional to D. Therefore, the computation delay of the proposed architecture is significantly less than previously proposed digit-serial systolic multipliers whose critical path increases proportional to D. Furthermore, since the new architecture has the features of a high regularity, modularity, and unidirectional data flow, it is well suited to VLSI implementation.

  • Efficient finite field arithmetic is essential for fast implementation of error correcting codes and cryptographic applications. Among the arithmetic operations over finite fields, the multiplication is one of the basic arithmetic operations. Therefore an efficient design of a finite field multiplier is required. In this paper, two new bit-parallel systolic multipliers for $GF(2^m)$ fields defined by AOP(all-one polynomial) have proposed. The proposed multipliers have a little bit greater space complexity but save at least 22% area complexity and 13% area-time (AT) complexity as compared to the existing multipliers using AOP. As compared to related works, we have shown that our multipliers have lower area-time complexity, cell delay, and latency. So, we expect that our multipliers are well suited to VLSI implementation.
