  • Game level design is one of the important parts in the commercial game development. Because of its complexity in combining game components, game design work could be classified into a non-linear problem. In this paper, we propose a new automated game level design system by using genetic algorithms. With our system, a game designer easily generates an optimized game level by designating the key parameters m the initial stage of game design. Our system can be useful in reducing the trial-errors in the initial game level design process.

  • Traditional text-based system engineering, which has been used in the design and application of passive residual heat removal system (PRHRS) for lead-cooled fast reactors, is prone to several problems such as low development efficiency, long iteration cycles, and model ambiguity. This study aims to effectively address the abovementioned problems by adopting a model-based system engineering (MBSE) method, which has been preliminarily applied to meet the design requirements of a PRHRS. The design process has been implemented based on the preliminary design of the system architecture and consists of three stages: top-level requirement analysis, functional requirements analysis, and design requirements synthesis. The results of the top-level requirements analysis and the corresponding use case diagram can determine the requirements, top-level use cases, and scenario flow of the system. During the functional requirements analysis, the sequence, activity, and state machine diagrams are used to develop the system function model and provide early confirmation. By comparing these sequence diagrams, the requirements for omissions and inconsistencies can be effectively checked. In the design requirements synthesis stage, the Analytic Hierarchy Process is used to conduct preliminary trade-off calculations on the system architecture, after which a white box model is established during the system architecture design. Through these two steps, the analysis and design of the system architecture are ultimately achieved. The resulting system architecture ensures the consistency of the design requirements. Ultimately, a functional hazard analysis was conducted for a specific incident to validate case requirements and further refine the system architecture. Future research can further reduce the design risk, improve the design efficiency, and provide a practical reference for the design and optimization of PRHRS in digital lead-cooled fast reactors.

  • The main aim of this study is to quantify the code seismic design coefficients of the RCS system, which consisted of reinforced concrete columns and steel beams, based on the FEMA P-695 methodology. The underlying intention is to evaluate the seismic performance of the RCS system at the system level rather than the connection level. A set of 24 archetype buildings with a various number of stories, beam span lengths, gravity load levels, and seismic load levels are selected and designed based on the prevailing code requirements. Nonlinear analytical models are developed and validated by experimental tests. The pushover and response history dynamic analyses are conducted to evaluate the required data in the performance quantification process. The results show that the design coefficients suggested by the code are acceptable. However, the level of conservatism is very high. Thus, it is possible to use a larger R-factor in the design process or make some relaxations in the design requirements related to this structural system.

  • This paper proposes a multi-level product modeling framework for long-term lifecycle products. The framework can help engineers to define product models and relate them to physical instances. The framework is defined in three levels; data, design model, modeling language. The data level represents real-world products, The model level describes design models of real-world products. The modeling language level defines concepts and relationships to describe product design models. The concepts and relationships in the modeling language level enable engineers to express the semantics of product models in an engineering-friendly way. The interactions between these three levels are explained to show how the framework can manage long-term lifecycle product information. A prototype system is provided for further understanding of the framework.

  • Recently, object-oriented techniques have been used more and more for developments of an information system. But, established object-oriented methodologies are hard to express a business process of various abstract degrees in the analysis level and independent components of the system. They have difficulties in developing a large-scale information system of manufacturing industry such as PDM and CIM. This paper proposes an information system development methodology that imports the object-oriented IDEF0 (OOIDEF0) function model in analysis level. This methodology is made up of requirements gathering, system analysis, system design, and implementation. In requirements gathering level, organization diagram and interview technique are used for input data of OOIDEF0 function model. The OOIDEF0 function model, the interface model and function descriptions are made out in analysis level. Information objects and implementation objects are designed on the basis of the OOIDEF0 function model in design level. The database is built and programming is accomplished in implementation level. In order to prove the consistency and efficiency of the proposed methodology, the PDM system for ship production is modeled and prototyped.

  • In this paper, the design process and the control method of the power conversion system (PCS) that consists of a bidirectional DC-DC converter and a 3-level T-type inverter for an energy storage system is presented. Especially the design method of the output LCL filter for a 3-lvel T-type inverter without complex mathematical process are proposed. The validity of the control method and design process in this paper are verified through simulation and experimental analysis.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of design parameters on the volume flow-rate and the noise level and to finally find the optimal design variables. Eighteen cross-flow fans were designed by the method of orthogonal array, and the flow-rate and the noise level were measured. These data were analyzed by the neural network system. The effects of eight design variables(scroll exit angle, scroll arc length et al.) on the fan performance and the noise level were valuated and discussed. This experiment shows that the design solutions suggested by neural network system may increase its volume flow-rate and reduce noise simultaneously.

  • Since 2014, MOLIT (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport) is carrying out a KASS project to develop and construct Korean SBAS. KASS can cause damage of human & properties if it has some problem during operation. Therefore, system safety assessment for KASS development is very important. Principal point of system safety assessment is the allocation of DAL(design assurance level) based on the hazard identification and classification. In this parer, the author conducts the allocation of DAL for KASS & its sub-systems based on the international standard(SAE ARP4761), which suggests a best practice of aviation system safety assessment. The result of this paper are the first step of system safety assessment, and can be used for further system safety assessment of KASS project.
