Prestressed hollow-core slabs (HCS) are widely used for modern lightweight precast floor structures because they are cost-efficient by reducing materials, and have excellent flexural strength and stiffness by using prestressing tendons, compared to reinforced concrete (RC) floor system. According to the recently revised ACI318-08, the web-shear capacity of HCS members exceeding 315 mm in depth without the minimum shear reinforcement should be reduced by half. It is, however, difficult to provide shear reinforcement in HCS members produced by the extrusion method due to their unique concrete casting methods, and thus, their shear design is significantly affected by the minimum shear reinforcement provision in ACI318-08. In this study, a large number of shear test data on HCS members has been collected and analyzed to examine their web-shear capacity with consideration on the minimum shear reinforcement requirement in ACI318-08. The analysis results indicates that the minimum shear reinforcement requirement for deep HCS members are too severe, and that the web-shear strength equation in ACI318-08 does not provide good estimation of shear strengths for HCS members. Thus, in this paper, a rational web-shear strength equation for HCS members was derived in a simple manner, which provides a consistent margin of safety on shear strength for the HCS members up to 500 mm deep. More shear test data would be required to apply the proposed shear strength equation for the HCS members over 500 mm in depth though.
One of the most important issues in structural systems is evaluation of the margin of safety in low and mid-rise buildings against the progressive collapse mechanism due to the earthquake loads. In this paper, modeling of collapse propagation in structural elements of RC frame buildings is evaluated by tracing down the collapse points in beam and column structural elements, one after another, under earthquake loads and the influence of column removal is investigated on how the collapse expansion in beam and column structural members. For this reason, progressive collapse phenomenon is studied in 3-story and 5-story intermediate moment resisting frame buildings due to the corner and edge column removal in presence of the earthquake loads. In this way, distribution and propagation of the collapse in progressive collapse mechanism is studied, from the first element of the structure to the collapse of a large part of the building with investigating and comparing the results of nonlinear time history analyses (NLTHA) in presence of two-component accelograms proposed by FEMA_P695. Evaluation of the results, including the statistical survey of the number and sequence of the collapsed points in process of the collapse distribution in structural system, show that the progressive collapse distribution are special and similar in low-rise and mid-rise RC buildings due to the simultaneous effects of the column removal and the earthquake loads and various patterns of the progressive collapse distribution are proposed and presented to predict the collapse propagation in structural elements of similar buildings. So, the results of collapse distribution patterns and comparing the values of collapse can be utilized to provide practical methods in codes and guidelines to enhance the structural resistance against the progressive collapse mechanism and eventually, the value of damage can be controlled and minimized in similar buildings.

The stability, energetic efficiency and walking volume are affected by the geometric structure of legs of a walking robot. A quadruped walking robot is considered to have large stability margin among the walking robots and pantograph leg permits large walk stroke and mutually independent vertical and horizontal movements, but the kinematic characteristics are difficult to analyze. Graphical method may be useful to characterize three dimensional legged motion of the pantograph mechanism. We present the modelling method for three different quadruped robots with pantograph legs that have different joints mechanism. The modeled robots are animated by a path that is planned with respect to the center of body. In particular, graphical animation incorporates leg control to rotation and side walking and uses the window of Sun-3 system for displaying joint information.
In order to quantify the flow distribution characteristics of APR+ reactor, a test was performed on a test facility, ACOP ($\underline{A}$PR+ $\underline{C}$ore Flow & $\underline{P}$ressure Test Facility), having a length scale of 1/5 referring to the prototype plant. The major parameters are core inlet flow and outlet pressure distribution and sectional pressure drops along the major flow path inside reactor vessel. To preserve the flow characteristics of prototype plant, the test facility was designed based on a preservation of major flow path geometry. An Euler number is considered as primary dimensionless parameter, which is conserved with a 1/40.9 of Reynolds number scaling ratio. ACOP simplifies each fuel assembly into a hydraulic simulator having the same axial flow resistance and lateral cross flow characteristics. In order to supply boundary condition to estimate thermal margins of the reactor, the distribution of inlet core flow and core exit pressure were measured in each of 257 fuel assembly simulators. In total, 584 points of static pressure and differential pressures were measured with a limited number of differential pressure transmitters by developing a sequential operation system of valves. In the current study, reactor flow characteristics under the balanced four-cold leg flow conditions at each of the cold legs were quantified, which is a part of the test matrix composing the APR+ flow distribution test program. The final identification of the reactor flow distribution was obtained by ensemble averaging 15 independent test data. The details of the design of the test facility, experiment, and data analysis are included in the current paper.
This study was aimed to verify a comparison by dental alloys upon the marginal fitness of dental prosthesis. Firstly, we waxed up on 45 epoxy resin dies, pressed the margin with hands, and identified the marginal fitness with microscope. And we made a single direct spruing system type of sprue by 3 dental alloys - metal crown alloys, PFM crown alloys, and gold crown alloys - each 15, total 45 waxing up, adjusting W/P ratio and invested the cast ring. Then, we made the dental prosthesis using the electric casting machine. In these processes we followed the manufacturer's instructions, in order to maintain the other conditions from the inner and outer, which included investment and burning out. After we tried on the dental prosthesis on epoxy resin dies, we have got the means of marginal gap at 9 points with same distances, around the cervical line which was checked already, using microscope($\times$300). The results of this study were as follows : 1. Metal crown alloys showed 2.9% better in marginal fitness than PFM crown alloys, and the difference was not statistically significant(P=0.497). 2. Gold crown alloys showed 31.3% better in marginal fitness than Metal crown alloys, and the difference was statistically significant(P=0.004). 3. Gold crown alloys showed 32.4% better in marginal fitness than PFM crown alloys, and the difference was statistically significant(P=0.002). 4. We saw that Gold crown alloys was the best dental alloys in the marginal fitness among the three.(P=0.049).

Various process piping usually carries out high flammable and explosible gas under high pressure and high temperature. Due to frequent change of design and structure it becomes more complicated and compactly located. The safety management level is relatively low since it is considered as simply designed component. In this study a safety assessment procedure is proposed for complicated piping system around a mixing drum in which natural gas and by-product gases were mixed. According to ASME code, pipe stress analysis was conducted for determining design margin at some key locations of the piping. These high stress locations can be used as major inspection points for managing the pipe integrity. Sensitivity analysis with outside temperature of the pipe and support constraint condition. Possible effect of hydroen gas to the pipe steel during the previous use of the by-product gas was also discussed.
PURPOSE. Cement-retained implant prostheses can lack proper retrievability during repair, and residual cement can cause peri-implantitis. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the influence of abutment height and convergence angle on the retrievability of cement-retained implant prostheses with lingual slots, known as retrievable cement-type slots (RCS). MATERIALS AND METHODS. We fabricated six types of titanium abutments (10 of each type) with two different heights (4 mm and 6 mm), three different convergence angles ($8^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$, and $12^{\circ}$), a sloped shoulder margin (0.6 mm depth), a rectangular shape ($6mm{\times}6.5mm$) with rounded edges, and a rectangular ledge ($2mm{\times}1mm$) for the RCS. One monolithic zirconia crown was fabricated for each abutment using a dental computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing system. The abutments and crowns were permanently cemented together with dual-curing resin cement, followed by 24 hours in demineralized water at room temperature. Using a custom-made device with a slot driver and torque gauge, we recorded the torque ($N{\cdot}cm$) required to remove the crowns. Statistical analysis was conducted using multiple regression analysis and Mann-Whitney U tests (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. Removal torques significantly decreased as convergence angles increased. Multiple regression analysis showed no significant interaction between the abutment height and the convergence angle (Durbin-Watson ratio: 2.186). CONCLUSION. Within the limitations of this in vitro study, we suggest that the retrievability of cement-retained implant prostheses with RCS can be maintained by adjusting the abutment height and convergence angle, even when they are permanently cemented together.
Dual-polarization means to use two orthogonal polarizations, namely two independent channels in communication. This can be used to deal with high datarate caused by large amount of observed data in future LEO satellite. However, when two orthogonal polarizations are not perfectly independent to each other in practical, interference is probably raised in each channel, meaning that noise level in passband increases. XPD (Cross-Polarization Discrimination) is the ratio of the signal level at the output of a receiving antenna that is nominally co-polarized to the transmitting antenna to the output of a receiving antenna of the same gain but nominally orthogonal polarized to the transmitting antenna. In this paper, the influence of XPD on the communication between satellite and ground station was analyzed under the assumption that X-Band dual-polarization was applied to KOMPSAT-2 (KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite-2). Through analysis, it was shown that more than 3dB of link margin was still achievable despite of worst axial ratio, 2.5dB, at ground station antenna when axial ratio of satellite antenna was about 0.5dB under 99% of environmental availability.

In a grid connected variable speed wind turbine, the PCC voltage and the wind power fluctuate as the wind velocity changed. And this voltage variation is changed due to location of PCC. This paper calculate the value of PCC voltage variation which is proportional to the product of the line impedance from the ideal generator to the PCC and the wind turbine output current. And to reduce this PCC voltage variation, this paper calculate the required reactive power analytically using the vector diagram method. Output reactive current is changed, if the reactive current is limited by inverter capacity or grid code have the margin of voltage variation. If the grid connected inverter is controlled by proposed algorithm, the PCC voltage variation is minimized though the wind turbine output change at random. To verify calculated voltage variation and required reactive power, this paper utilized Matlab and PSCAD/EMTDC simulation and real small wind turbine and power system in Sapsido, island in the Yellow Sea.

Quench behavior of resistive superconducting fault current limiters (SFCLs) with various pattern shapes was investigated. The pattern shapes employed were meander, bi-spiral, and spiral shapes of identical line width, gap and margin. SFCLs were fabricated from YBCO thin films grown on two-inch diameter $Al_2O_3$ substrates under the same conditions. Resistance rise of current limiting elements was low at a spiral shape before the whole quench completion, which may act as a disadvantage for simultaneous quench in serial connection between current limiting elements, but the temperature tended to have similar values at higher voltages. On the other hand, bi-spiral shape was severe at insulation level between current limiting lines. When these aspects were considered, we concluded that a meander shape was appropriate to design for a resistive SFCL based on thin films except the concentration of electric field at edge areas of strip lines.
