  • The IEEE 802.11 protocol is the most mature technology for WLANs(Wireless Local Area Networks). However, as the number of stations increases, the delay and throughput performance of IEEE 802.11 MAC(Medium Access Control) degrades severely. In this paper, we present the comprehensive performance analysis of IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol by investigating the MAC layer packet service time when arrival packet sizes have a general probability distribution. We obtain the discrete probability distribution of the MAC layer service time. By using this, we analyze the system throughput and the MAC layer packet service time of IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol in wireless LAN environment. We take some numerical examples for the system throughput and the mean packet service time for several special distributions of arrival packet sizes.

  • In this paper, we investigate the throughput capacity of a multi-hop relay network with cognitive radio (CR) enabled relay stations (RS). We suggested a TDMA/FDMA based frame structure where RSs dynamically select unused channels to communicate with the base station (BS) using CR techniques to analyze the throughput capacity. We developed the throughput capacity model for the proposed system based on utilization factor. The analytical results based on those equations show significant improvement in throughput capacity for CR enabled multi-hop relay system.

  • This paper proposes a combination system of Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) and Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), which improves the throughput and has a better reliability. In addition, the system includes Precoding, Antenna Subset Selection and MIMO Mode Selection scheme. Finally, we make a performance analysis of the proposed system. The principal environmental parameters for the simulation experiment consist of a frequency non-selective rayleigh fading channel and a Spreading Factor (SF) of 16. Other parameters may be included in order to fulfill the requirements of the HSDP A Standard. The proposed system has a higher throughput and more reliability than the conventional system, which does not include MIMO Mode Selection scheme, Precoding or Antenna Subset Selection. According to the simulation results, the proposed system reaches the maximum throughput at 8dB, presentlng an improvement of 6dB and twice higher throughput, respect to the conventional system. Specifically, at the point of -6dB, the conventional system reaches 2.5Mbps, while the proposed system reaches 6.4Mbps at the same SNR. Also, at the point of 2dB, each system reaches 7.5Mbps (conventional system) and 15.3Mbps (proposed system), with near twice the difference. According to the results exposed above, we can conclude that the system proposed in this paper has, as the greatest contribution, the improvement of the throughput, especially, the average throughput.

  • Until now, much research on cooperative communications to increase system throughput at Ad Hoc networks has been provided. In this paper, in order to enhance system throughput much more at Ad Hoc networks, a network coding-enabled new MAC protocol, called NC-MAC protocol, is proposed and its performance is evaluated with a mathematical approach. Numerical results show that this scheme provides conspicuously enhanced system throughput compared to DCF scheme, and more increased system throughput by 48% than rDCF and CO-MAC schemes.

  • This paper considers a wideband cognitive radio network which can simultaneously sense multiple narrowband channels and thus aggregate the detected available channels for transmission and proposes a novel cognitive radio system that exhibits improved sensing throughput and can save power consumption of secondary user (SU) compared to the conventional cognitive radio system studied so far. More specifically, under the proposed cognitive radio system, we study the problem of designing the optimal sensing time and power allocation strategy, in order to maximize the ergodic throughput of the proposed cognitive radio system under two different schemes, namely the wideband sensing-based spectrum sharing scheme and the wideband opportunistic spectrum access scheme. In our analysis, besides the average interference power constraint at primary user, the average transmit power constraint of SU is also considered for the two schemes and then a subgradient algorithm is developed to obtain the optimal sensing time and the corresponding power allocation strategy. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to verify the performance of the two proposed schemes.

  • This paper focuses on the scheduling problem with the objective of maximizing system throughput, while guaranteeing long-term quality of service (QoS) constraints for non-realtime data users and short-term QoS constraints for realtime multimedia users in multiclass service high-speed uplink packet access (HSUPA) systems. After studying the feasible rate region for multiclass service HSUPA systems, we formulate this scheduling problem and propose a multi-constraints HSUPA opportunistic scheduling (MHOS) algorithm to solve this problem. The MHOS algorithm selects the optimal subset of users for transmission at each time slot to maximize system throughput, while guaranteeing the different constraints. The selection is made according to channel condition, feasible rate region, and user weights, which are adjusted by stochastic approximation algorithms to guarantee the different QoS constraints at different time scales. Simulation results show that the proposed MHOS algorithm guarantees QoS constraints, and achieves high system throughput.

  • In this paper, we propose a scheme that tunes the backoff period for enhancing the system throughput with estimating the number of devices in IEEE 802.15.4 slotted carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) networks. Since each device does not sense the channel always in IEEE 802.15.4 slotted CSMA/CA networks, a personal area network (PAN) coordinator is used to estimate the number of active devices. The PAN coordinator broadcasts an optimal backoff period for the estimated number of devices through a beacon frame. In order to estimate the number of devices in run time, a simple moving average filter is utilized. We show the performance of our proposed scheme in terms of the estimated number of devices and the system throughput. The simulation results show that our proposed scheme can obtain higher system throughput than the IEEE 802.15.4 standard.

  • The effect of spreading gain control on the throughput of a CDMA slotted ALOHA system is considered. Mobile users transmit packets over a shared channel, and the packets transmitted in the same time slot over the shared channel act as simultaneous access interference (SAI). When using spread-spectrum signal, a CDMA slotted ALOHA channel achieves high probability of capture due to the property of high title resolution, and the bit rate of user information is determined by spreading gain. When the SAI level gets larger, the high value of spreading gain enhances the packet throughput by increasing the probability of a successful packet transmission, while it degrades the of the effective throughput by reducing the user information bits carried within a packer. To solve the problem, we investigated the effect of the capture probability and the SAI level on these system throughputs, and evaluated the throughput performance of the system for each spreading gain control scheme. The results showed that the maximum effective throughput could be achieved with an unified method despite the variation of the SAI level by deriving an optimal value of the spreading gain according to 171e system states.

  • Atomic layer deposition (ALD)have been proven to be a very attractive technique for the fabrication of advanced gate dielectrics and DRAM insulators due to excellent conformality and precise control of film thickness and composition, However, one major disadvantages of ALD is its relatively low deposition rate (throughput) because the deposition rate is typically limited by the time required for purging process between the introduction of precursors. In order to improve its throughput, many efforts have been made by commercial companies, for example, the modification reactor and development of precursors. However, any promising solution has not reported to date. We developed a new concept ALD system(Lucida TM S200) with high-throughput. In this process, a continuous flow of ALD precursor and purging gas are simultaneously introduced from different locations in the ALD reactor. A cyclic ALD process is carried out by moving the wafer holder up and down. Therefore, the time required for ALD reaction cycle is determined by speed of the wafer holder and vapor pressure of precursors. We will present the operating principle of our system and results of deposition.
