  • Hand shape is one of important elements in Korean Sign Language (KSL), which is a communication method for the deaf. To express sign motion in a virtual reality environment based on OpenGL, we need an editor which can insert and modify sign motion data. However, it is very difficult that people, who lack knowledge of sign 1anguage, exactly edit and express hand shape using the existing editors. We also need a program to efficiently construct and store the hand shape data because the number of data is very large in a sign word dictionary. In this paper we developed a KSL hand shape editor to easily construct and edit hand shape by a graphical user interface (GUI), and to store it in a database. Hand shape codes are used in a sign word editor to synthesize sign motion and decreases total amount of KSL data.

  • In this paper we design STBC-OFDM systems by applying several STBC schemes to the OFEM system and show their comparative analysis results obtained through computer simulations under Rayleigh fading environments, considering the effect of channel estimation error. We first consider the space-time coding algorithms of major STBC schemes, together with their demodulation algorithms. We then select the OFDMparameters considering mobile environments and design the STBC-OFDM systems by choosing one of digital modulation schemes such as QPSK, BPSK, 16QAM, 64QAM, and 256QAM according to the transmission rate, and describe the block diagrams of the demodulator and channel estimator. We finally compare and analyze the BER performances of the STBC-OFDM systems according to the transmission rate and the number of receive antennas.

  • Current seismic design code is based on the assumption that the designed structures would be behaved inelastically during a severe earthquake ground motion. For this reason, seismic design forces calculated by seismic codes are much lower than the forces generated by design earthquakes which makes structures responding elastically. Present procedures for calculating seismic design forces are based on the use of elastic spectra reduced by a strength reduction factors known as "response modificaion factor". Because these factors were determined empirically, it is difficult to know how much inelastic behaviors of the structures exhibit. In this study, lateral strength required to maintain target ductility ratio was first calculated from nonlinear dynamic analysis of the single degree of freedom system. At the following step, base shear foeces specified in seismic design code compare with above results. If the base shear force required to maintain target ductility ratio was higher than the code specified one, the lack of required strength should be filled by overstrength and/or redundancy. Therefore, overstrength of moment resisting frame structure will be estimated from the results of push-over analysis.

  • The focus of this article is on the assessment of vertical wind vector components and their aerodynamic impact on lattice framework, specifically two distinct sections of a guyed transmission tower. Thunderstorm winds, notably very localized events such as convective downdrafts (including downbursts) and tornadoes, result in a different load on a tower's structural system in terms of magnitude and spatial distribution when compared to horizontal synoptic winds. Findings of previous model-scale experiments are outlined and their results considered for the development of a testing rig that allows for rotation about multiple body axes through a series of wind tunnel tests. Experimental results for the wind loads on two unique experimental models are presented and the difference in behaviour discussed. For a model cross arm with a solidity ratio of approximately 30%, the drag load was increased by 14% when at a pitch angle of $20^{\circ}$. Although the effects of rotation about the vertical body axis, or the traditional 'angle of attack', are recognized by design codes as being significant, provisions for vertical winds are absent from each set of wind loading specifications examined. The inclusion of a factor to relate winds with a vertical component to the horizontal speed is evaluated as a vertical wind factor applicable to load calculations. Member complexity and asymmetric geometry often complicate the use of lattice wind loading provisions, which is a challenge that extends to future studies and codification. Nevertheless, the present work is intended to establish a basis for such studies.

  • Adsorption of metal elements onto illite and halloysite was investigated at $25^{\circ}C$ using pollutant water collected from the gold-bearing metal mine. Incipient solution of pH 3.19 was reacted with clay minerals as a function of time: 10 minute, 30 minute, 1 hour, 12 hour, 24 hour, 1 day, 2 day, 1 week, and 2 week. Twenty-seven cations and six anions from solutions were analyzed by AAs (atomic absorption spectrometer), ICP(induced-coupled plasma), and IC (ion chromatography). Speciation and saturation index of solutions were calculated by WATEQ4F and MINTEQA2 codes, indicating that most of metal ions exist as free ions and that there is little difference in chemical species and relative abundances between initial solution and reacted solutions. The adsorption results showed that the adsorption extent of elements varies depending on mineral types and reaction time. As for illite, adsorption after 1 hour-reaction occurs in the order of As>Pb>Ge>Li>Co, Pb, Cr, Ba>Cs for trace elements and Fe>K>Na>Mn>Al>Ca>Si for major elements, respectively. As for halloysite, adsorption after 1 hour-reaction occurs in the order of Cu>Pb>Li>Ge>Cr>Zn>As>Ba>Ti>Cd>Co for trace elements and Fe>K>Mn>Ca>Al>Na>Si for major elements, respectively. After 2 week-reaction, the adsorption occurs in the order of Cu>As>Zn>Li>Ge>Co>Ti>Ba>Ni>Pb>Cr>Cd>Se for trace elements and Fe>K>Mn>Al, Mg>Ca>Na, Si for major elements, respectively. No significant adsorption as well as selectivity was found for anions. Although halloysite has a 1:1 layer structure, its capacity of adsorption is greater than that of illite with 2:1 structure, probably due to its peculiar mineralogical characteristics. According to FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) results, there was no shift in the OH-stretching bond for illite, but the ν1 bond at 3695 cm-1 for halloysite was found to be stronger. In the viewpoint of adsorption, illite is characterized by an inner-sphere complex, whereas halloysite by an outer-sphere complex, respectively. Initial ion activity and dissociation constant of metal elements are regarded as the main factors that control the adsorption behaviors in a natural system containing multicomponents at the acidic condition.

  • Prestressed hollow-core (PHC) slabs are structurally-optimized lightweight precast floor members for long-span concrete structures, which are widely used in construction markets. In Korea, the PHC slabs have been often used with cast-in-place (CIP) topping concrete as a composite slab system. However, the PHC slab members produced by extrusion method use concrete having very low slump, and it is very difficult to make sufficient roughness on the surface as well as to provide shear connectors. In this study, a large number of push-off tests was conducted to evaluate interfacial shear strengths between PHC slabs and CIP topping concrete with the key variable of surface roughness. In addition, the horizontal shear strengths specified in the various design codes were evaluated by comparing to the test results that were collected from literature.

  • Before occupation of an apartment housing, the builders are required to inform the test result of IAQ to the public. However, there is no simplified method to predict IAQ before measurement of pollutant concentration. In this study, a simplified way of predicting IAQ based on the distribution of indoor pollutant concentration is proposed. 7 different cases of air change rate have been simulated through CFD analysis to get the distribution ratio of each pollutant material and then simplified functions were used with CRIAQ1 values derived from CFD simulation to evaluate by comparing the influence of each material in the indoor pollutant concentration. Again, a lot of efforts which can improve the indoor air quality have been performed. Materials used in indoor space are labeled with their pollutant emission level. Installation of ventilation system in residential buildings will be regulated by a building codes sooner or later. But it is important to understand the fact that layout of walls, location or size of openings will influence the indoor air flow and pollutant concentration. And location of emitting material influences to indoor air pollutants distribution. But until now there is few recognition and consideration of these factors. Therefore, in this paper the effects of these factors is proved and some kind of guideline is made for designers after a comparison of typical apartment floor plan and a new type plan with their average pollutant concentration and its distribution of each room. CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) program was used to show the indoor air flow and pollutant concentration distribution. For this purpose, a typical $100m^2$ apartment floor plan was chosen as a case study model and several alternatives were reviewed to improve the IAQ performance. The simulation took place in the condition of natural ventilation through windows.

  • In this paper, we propose a full rate quasi-orthogonal space-time-frequency block coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(QOSTF-OFDM) that can achieve full symbol rate with four transmit antennas. Sincr: the proposed QOSTF-OFDM can not achieve full diversity, we use diversity advantage collection with zero forcing (DAC-ZF) decoder to compensate the diversity loss at receive side. At the same frequency efficiency, compared with linear orthogonal space-time codes which can not achieve full rate with four transmit antennas over complex constellations, low level modulation can be employed by proposed scheme due to its full rate, i.e., modulation advantage can be achieved. Due to modulation advantage and collected diversify advantage, the proposed scheme exhibits better BER performance than other orthogonal schemes.

  • The JavaScript engine is a module that receives JavaScript code as input and processes it, among many functions that are loaded into web browsers and display web pages. Many fuzzing test studies have been conducted as vulnerabilities in JavaScript engines could threaten the system security of end-users running JavaScript through browsers. Some of them have increased fuzzing efficiency by guiding test coverage in JavaScript engines, but no coverage guided fuzzing of optimized, dynamically generated machine code was attempted. Optimized JavaScript codes are difficult to perform sufficient iterative testing through fuzzing due to the function of runtime guards to free the code in the event of exceptional control flow. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a method of performing fuzzing tests on optimized machine code by avoiding deoptimization. In addition, we propose a method to measure the coverage of runtime-guards by the dynamic binary instrumentation and to guide increment of runtime-guard coverage. In our experiment, our method has outperformed the existing method at two measures: runtime coverage and iteration by time.

  • Recently, STC techniques have been considered to be candidate to support multimedia services in the next generation mobile radio communications and have been developed the many communications systems in order to achieve the high data rates. In this paper, we propose the Trellis-Coded Differential Space Time Modulation system with multiple symbol detection. The Trellis-code performs the set partition with unitary group codes. The Viterbi decoder containing new branch metrics is introduced in order to improve the bit error rate (BER) in the differential detection of the unitary differential space time modulation. Also, we describe the Viterbi algorithm in order to use this branch metrics. Our study shows that such a Viterbi decoder improves BER performance without sacrificing bandwidth and power efficiency.
