  • The objective of the current study is to evaluate the effects depending on the types of reinforcing fibers being influential in view of mechanical properties and impact resistance of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete (HFRC) for applications to precast concrete structure. Hybrid fibers applied therefor were three types such as PP/MSF (polypropylene fiber+macro synthetic fiber), PVA/MAF (polyvinyl alcohol fiber+MSF) and JUTE/MSF (natural jute fiber+MSF), where the volume fraction of PP, PVA and natural jute was applied with 0.2 %, respectively, while based on 0.05 % volume fraction of MSF. The HFRC was tested for slump, compressive strength, flexural strength and impact resistance. The test result demonstrated that mixture of such hybrid fibers improve compressive strength, flexural strength and impact resistance of concrete. Moreover, it was found that HFRCs to which hydrophilic fibers, i.e. PVA/MSF and JUTE/MSF, were mixed show more improved features that HFRC to which non-hydrophilic fiber, i.e. PP/MSF was mixed. Meanwhile, the finding that PVA/MSF HFRC exhibited better performance than JUTE/MSF HFRC was attributed from the former having higher aspect ratio than that of the latter.

  • We prepared natural indigo/calcium hydroxide complex powder from tinctoria's leaf, according to the demand of developing new dyeing technique of natural fibre with natural indigo. FT- IR and UV/Visible spectra were operated to find the dyeing properties of synthetic indigo and natural indigo powder. Cotton, flax and silk fabrics were dyed with different pH, dye concentration and dyeing time. The colour yield of indigo dye was quite sensitive to dye bath pH and fabric. In synthetic indigo, the highest K/S value of dyed silk fabric was shown at near pH 9.0, and which of flax and cotton fabric were shown at pH 11.0. In other hand, in the case of natural indigo complex powder, the highest K/S value of dyed silk fabric was shown at near pH 8.0, and which of flax and cotton fabric were shown at pH 9.5∼pH 10. Mercerized cotton fabric dyed with natural indigo powder has a little antimicrobial activity.

  • Nylon was the first commercialized synthetic fiber. It is a polyamide, derived from a diamine and dicarboxylic acid. The nylon fiber has outstanding durability and excellent physical properties such as stiffness, wear and abrasion resistance, friction coefficient and chemical resistance. Due to these properties of nylon 66, nano-sized fibers are produced by electrospinning method in this study. During the past years the nylon 66 fibers have been prepared by conventional melt spining. • Lightweight polymer concrete with steel fiber can be used for thin panel, high building and large span structures due to its may advantages such as its durability, low weight, control of crack propagation, high strength and toughness. This study experimented about steel fiber reinforcement of lightweight polymer concrete using synthetic lightweight aggregate. The test result shows that the maximum strain and elastic modulus are in the range of $0.012{\sim}0.014\;and\;50.2{\times}10^3{\sim}51.0{\times}10^3kgf/cm^2$, respectively. The flexural load-deflection curves after maximum load are shown in smoothly with increase of steel fiber content

  • The cement-based composites have relatively low tensile strength and toughness. The fiber addition is one of the most important ways of increasing the toughness of concrete. The steel fibers have been used conventionally in the shotcrete of tunnel lining. Recently, the structural synthetic fibers were developed and used frequently in some actual tunnel shotcreting in foreign countries. There are so many method to evaluate a toughness; ASTM, JCI, EFNARC, etc. But these methods contain a few defects. So most researchers are studying to develope a new toughness evaluation method. A RTA is one of these methods. The purpose of this study is to explore the strength and toughness characteristic of the fiber reinforced concrete panel according to the geometry; diameter, thickness. The result were compared with those of steel fiber reinforced concrete.

  • This study was conducted to survey the end-use properties of the commercial men's socks. Date were obtained from 16 samples of men's socks gathered from department store, markets, specialty chain and variety store in street. Stretchness, performance of rib top, fiber contents, strength (abrasion and bursting), pilling properties and color fastness of socks tested in this study were as follows. 1. Stretchness of socks was sufficient but elongation of rib top was insufficient, therefore these facts are getting to become problem to consumers. 2. Fiber contents of samples were not in accord with the labelled item and criteria of Textile Fiber Product Identification Act. 3. Strength and pilling properties were vaious in according to fiber contents of socks. Socks blended of synthetic fibers were superior to that pure natural fibers in strength but not in pilling. 4. Color fastness to perspiration and rubbing were sufficient on the whole, but fastness to laundering in stain were very insufficient.

  • This paper depicts the development and characterizations of laminated composites made with cellulosic giant cane (Arundinaria gigantea) fiber mats and epoxy resin. Zirconia-toughened mullite (ZTM) is used as a filler material in the laminated composite which was prepared from sillimanite through plasma processing technique. The mechanical characterizations of this composite have been carried out as per ASTM standards to evaluate its usability as a structural material. The effects of varying weight percentages of the filler and two different fiber orientations namely, angle-ply [$+45^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}/+45^{\circ}$] and balanced cross-ply [$0^{\circ}/90^{\circ}/0^{\circ}$] on the physical and mechanical properties such as density, microhardness, impact strength, tensile strength and interlaminar shear strength of the layered composite specimens have been investigated. The study indicates that the inclusion of zirconia-toughened mullite in the composite laminate as filler improves its mechanical properties. Moreover, the use of giant cane fiber mat in the laminate is more eco-friendly than the synthetic fibers. This research also helps in generating additional data to enrich the repository of natural fiber reinforced laminated composites.

  • Recently, our circumstances are threatened by an accident that leakage of under ground storage tank and illegal dumping of synthetic organic compounds at chemical plants and many treatment methods, Activated carbon adsorption, Ozonization, Membrane filtration and Photocatalystic oxidation, are developed to remove such a synthetic organic compounds. And it has reported that Activated carbon adsorption have a great removal efficiency to nondegradable matters and organic compounds which have a high molecular weight. Comparing with other adsorbents, Activated carbon adsorption have a worse efficiency when ad desorption speed is low. Thus improved type of adsorbents was invented and one of those is Activated Carbon Filter. The purpose of this study was getting information about adsorption characteristic phenol which can be applied Activated Carbon Fiber and Granular Activated Carbon. In detail, With comparing removal characteristics of phenol in the presence Humic Acid using Activated Carbon Fiber(ACF) and Granular Activated. Carbon(GAC), it is to certify an effective application of Activated Carbon Fiber. At the range of this study, Batch test, Isotherm adsorption test and Factorial analysis, following conclusion were obtained from the results of this study. Batch test was carried to know time of adsorption equilibrium. In this study about time of adsorption equilibrium by ACF was faster than GAC's, for developed micropore of ACF. From the result of phenol adsorption test, High removal rate of adsorption is shown at pH 5. The result of lsotherm adsorption test, it has represented that the Freundlich's isotherm is most suitable one in others, that a ACF's adsorption capacity is more excellent than GAC's. Adsorption of phenol exiting humic acid is decreased getting raised humic acid concentration. Since ACF's micropore is developed at this time, an effect of high molecular humic acid is lower. Factorial analysis was carried to know about Main effect which was injection dosage of adsorbent in the range of this study.
