  • With the advance of radar technologies, the availability of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images increases. To improve application of SAR images, a management system for SAR images is proposed in this paper. The system provides trainable land cover classification module and display of SAR images on the map. Users of the system can create their own classifier with their data, and obtain the classified results of newly captured SAR images by applying the classifier to the images. The classifier is based on convolutional neural network structure. Since there are differences among SAR images depending on capturing method and devices, a fixed classifier cannot cover all types of SAR land cover classification problems. Thus, it is adopted to create each user's classifier. In our experiments, it is shown that the module works well with two different SAR datasets. With this system, SAR data and land cover classification results are managed and easily displayed.

  • This paper presents the structural design of a planar synthetic aperture radar (SAR) antenna applied to a microsatellite. For micro-satellite applications, the SAR antenna structure must be lightweight, flat, and designed to withstand the launch environment. To satisfy these conditions, our novel antenna structure was designed using aluminium (AL) alloy. Structural analysis was performed for quasi-static load, random vibration, and shock load to verify its robustness in the launch environment, and the results are presented here.

  • Line may receiver contains an ambiguity on conjugate bearings, because of lacking aperture in transverse direction. To solve the left/right bearing ambiguity of line-array receiver we used line-array with cardioid beam. In addition, the synthetic aperture method adopts coherent processing of sub-aperture signals at successive time intervals in the beam domain. We presented performances about division of left/right bearing ambiguity according to array synthetic number of times in this paper.

  • Synthetic Aperture Sonar is a technique of extending Physically limited length of an array by signal processing to enhance bearing resolution of a system. The previous techniques estimate most or away shapes as linear. so when towed array shapes are distorted. this can create a deviation from actual situation. In this paper. we estimated perturbed away shapes. and compensated distortion by using estimated array shapes and synthesized arrays in aperture domain. As experimental data, we used the one obtained from towed array in neighboring waters of the Korean peninsula. We extended array by compensating differences in time and spatial position between overlapped subarrays by using SAS techniques. In simulation results. we confirmed that the bearing resolution was enhanced.

  • With advancements in satellite technology, interest in target detection and identification is increasing quantitatively and qualitatively. Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) images, which can be acquired regardless of weather conditions, have been applied to various areas combined with machine learning based detection algorithms. However, conventional studies primarily focused on the detection of stationary targets. In this study, we proposed a method to identify moving targets using an algorithm that integrates sub-aperture SAR images and cosine similarity calculations. Utilizing a transformer-based deep learning target detection model, we extracted the bounding box of each target, designated the area as a region of interest (ROI), estimated the similarity between sub-aperture SAR images, and determined movement based on a predefined similarity threshold. Through the proposed algorithm, the quantitative evaluation of target identification capability enhanced its accuracy compared to when training with the targets with two different classes. It signified the effectiveness of our approach in maintaining accuracy while reliably discerning whether a target is in motion.

  • Detection and processing techniques for small objects on seabed by the active synthetic aperture sonar can be increased the detection performance because it can be used by short sensor array in small unmanned underwater systems that are spatially constrained. But the limited conditions on constant speed and straight movement of the platform cause a large error in the number of external environmental factors and exact phase synthesis process. In this study, analyzed the applicability of active synthetic aperture processing that is mounted on such a system, and compared detection resolution change in accordance with the phase difference mismatch caused by the along track disturbance. Various simulations were performed as a coherently focus processing model by adding along track disturbance mismatched parameter on the configuring simulator. As the result, detection performance of active synthetic processing for small objects on seabed was found a number of changes by the phase difference mismatch errors according to track disturbances and S/N ratio variations.

  • This paper reports the preliminary results on the study of radargrammetry especially for a high-resolution satellite synthetic aperture radar system. Theoretical configurations for radargrammetry in terms of coverage, orbit selection, incidence angles, height sensitivity of parallax and height resolution of DEM were calculated according to the proposed orbit characteristics and the imaging modes of KOMPSAT-5 SAR. Possible imaging strategies and mission scenarios for coverage versus rapidity are suggested for a future mission dedicated to radargrammetry.

  • Since the range and Doppler resolution of the synthetic aperture radar(SAR) image becomes very high, the target detection accuracy can be significantly increased, but the computational burden is also increased. The conventional single-cell based CFAR detector performs the target detection on every single cell basis, thus it causes the serious increment of the computational load. In this paper, the improved two-step MCA-CFAR detector is proposed for the improvement of the target detection as well as the reduction of computational load: the first step is to use the MCA-CFAR, and the second step is to use the single-cell based CFAR detection in the expected target area for final decision. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with the conventional single-cell based CFAR and MCA-CFAR on SAR images.
