This study investigates whether urban expansion can act as a cause of the decline of the original city center through the Space Syntax methodology. The urban spatial structure analysis was conducted targeting the downtown area of Jeju-eupseong. The time points for longitudinal analysis were set at five points between 1914 and 2021 including the Japanese colonial period when the cadastral map was drawn up in Jeju City, and the urban spatial structure was analyzed and compared for each time point. ASA (Angular Segment Analysis) was used as a technique for urban spatial structure analysis. This study shows that urban expansion is a cause of the decline of the original downtown. The original city center has moved away from the center as the urban structural change due to the urban expansion. The urban structure of the eastern part of Jeju City has undergone a major transformation between 1914 and 2021. As the old Jeju area where the original city center was located is geographically in contact with the sea, urban sprawl has been made toward Halla Mountain and further to the south of Jeju. Accordingly, the city center has transformed from a monocentric to a polycentric structure. Due to the dynamics of the urban sprawl, the old downtown of Jeju became one of the peripheral neighbourhoods in the Greater Metropolitan of Jeju.
A Korean adverb '거의(geoui)' modifies predicates to generate complex predicates which have meanings of 'nearly' complete or typical properties of the modified predicates in quantities, degrees, and frequencies. The modified predicates 'complete' or 'typical' properties are referred counterfactually as standards for the generated predicates' meanings of deficiencies. These counterfactual standards can be formalized by a counterfactual conditional operator of the intensional semantics in Cresswell(1990). The deficiencies in the quantities, degrees, or frequencies of the properties can be expressed formally introducing a world-independent measure of comparison. The measure can be manufactured out of relations between intensional things at indices and their equivalence classes. The world-independent measure of comparison has a semantic structure under-specified in quantity, degree, and frequency, and seems very well-suited in describing lexical meaning of '거의(geoui)'. The lexical-semantic analysis of '거의(geoui)' shows explicitly the plausibility of the indispensable existence of the comparing measure which works across real and counterfactual worlds in natural language meaning. On the other hand, we examined Kim, young-hee(1985)'s proposal of a transition of quantificational meaning for Korean degree adverbs, where he tried to explain the quantificational meaning of Korean degree adverbs in general including '거의(geoui)' with several syntactic and semantic constraints of 'contextual deletion'. But it is shown that the quantificational meanings of the degree adverbs which Kim(1985) discussed are also explained better by their under-specified meanings in quantities, frequencies and degrees with the world-independent measure of comparison applied to their paradigmatic lexical constraint rather than Kim(1985)'s transition of meaning.
In this paper, we present a Korean partial parser based on rules, which is used for running applications such as a grammar checker and a machine translation. Basically partial parsers construct one or more morphemes and/or words into one syntactical unit, but not complete syntactic trees, and accomplish some additional operations for syntactical parsing. The system described in this paper adopts a set of about 140 manually-written rules for partial parsing. Each rule consists of conditional statements and action statement that defines which one is head node and also describes an additional action to do if necessary. To observe that this approach can improve the efficiency of overall processing, we make simple experiments. The experimental results have shown that the average number of edges generated in processing without the partial parser is about 2 times more than that with the partial parser.
Currently, there are many software tools that can generate 3D human figure models and animations based on the advancement of computer graphics technology. However, we still have problems in interoperability of human data models in different applications because common data models do not exist. To address this issue, the Web3D Consortium and the ISO/IEC JTC1 SC24 WG6 have developed the H-Anim standard. However, H-Anim does not include human motion data formats although it defines the structure of a human figure. This research is intended to obtain interoperable human animation by defining the data for human motions in H- Anim figures. In this paper, we describe a syntactic method to define motion data for the H-Anim figure and its implementation. In addition, we describe a method of specifying motion parameters necessary for generating animations by using an arbitrary character model data set created by a general graphics tool.
In this paper, we describe the answer pattern for definitional question-answering system. The .answer extraction method of a definitional question-answering system is different from the general answer extraction method because it presents the descriptive answer for a definitional question. The definitional answer extraction using the definitional answer pattern can extract the definitional answer correctly without the semantic analysis. The definitional answer pattern is consist of answer pattern, conditional rule and priority to extract the correct definitional answer. We extract the answer pattern from the definitional training corpus and determine the optimum conditional rule using F-measure. Next, we determine the priority of answer patterns using precision and syntactic structure. Our experiments show that our approach results in the precision(0.8207), the recall(0.9268) and the F-measure(0.8705). It means that our approach can be used efficiently for a definitional question-answering system.
The syntactic and semantic characteristics of a computer program can be represented by the keywords sequence extracted from the source code. Therefore the similarity and the difference between two programs can be clearly figured out by comparing the keyword sequences obtained from the given programs. Various methods for measuring the similarity of two different sequences have been intensively studied already in bioinformatics on biological genetic sequence manipulation. In this paper, we propose a new method for measuring the similarity of two different programs and detecting the partial plagiarism by exploiting the sequence alignment techniques. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we experimented with the actual Program codes submitted by 70 students attending a Data Structure course )tow 2001. The experimental results show that the proposed method is more effective and powerful than the fingerprint method which is the most commonly used for the Plagiarism detection.
This paper deals with a class of Middle English impersonal constructions that involve verbs of two-place argument structure. As is generally understood, the term 'impersonal' is notoriously murky, and after all those researches that have been performed in this area, quite a few issues still remain controversial. The issues we center around in the present study concern the following two. In the type of impersonal constructions we consider, the two arguments-Cause and Experiencer-are both expressed in oblique case, posing the problem of determining which of them functions as the grammatical subject. The issue, however. is not how an argument in oblique case can be taken as the subject: it is well blown that the so called 'dative subject Experiencer' already occurred in Old English. The real issue is why both of the arguments are syntactically realized as nonnominative. The other issue concerns the 3rd-person singular form of the verb. Here again, the crux of the problem may be blurred by the fact that impersonal construction is often defined as one in which the verb has 3rd-person singular form with no apparent nominative W controlling verb concord. But this definition is more nebulous than clear because the notion 'subjectless' is itself highly controversial. Thus, for an expression like me thinketh that-S, it may well be that the verb thinketh ('seems') is 3rd-person singular because the that-clause is the subject. What should be explained of the data brought up here is why the impersonal verb is 3rd-person singular when neither of the NPs associated with it is 3rd person or singular. I argue that we can account for our paradigm examples by looking upon them as 'mixed construction' in which semantic interpretation conflicts with syntactic parsing as a result of case syncretism and gradual establishment of SVO word order. This amounts to saying that the peculiarities of the construction originate with the confused use of impersonal verbs between the sense of 'give an impression' and that of 'receive and impression.'

The Feature model can not be guaranteed the syntactic accuracy of its model and be difficult the validation using automatic tool for its syntax, because this model is expressed by a graphical and informal structure in itself. Therefore, there is a need to formalize and check for the feature model, to precisely define syntax for construct of the model. This paper presents a Z formal specification and a model checking mechanism of the feature model to guarantee the correctness of the model. It first defines the translation rules between feature model and Z, and then converts the syntax of the feature model into the Z schema specification by applying these rules. Finally, the Z schema specification is checked syntax, type, and domain errors using the Z/Eves validation tool to assure the correctness of its specification, With the use of the proposed method, we may express more precisely the construct of the feature model. Moreover the domain analyst are able to usefully verify the errors of the generated feature model.

Many researchers have been studied to reveal human natural language to let machine understand its meaning by text based, page rank based or more. Particularly, it has been considered that URL and HTML Tag information in web documents are attracting people' attention again to analyze huge amount of web document automatically. In this paper, we propose a STW (Semantic Term Weight) approach based on syntactic and linguistic structure of web documents in order to classify what genres are. For the evaluation, we analyzed more than 1,000 documents from 20-Genre-collection corpus for training the documents based on SVM algorithm. Afterwards, we tested KI-04 corpus to evaluate performance of our proposed method. This paper measured their accuracy by classifying them into an experiment using STW and one without u sing STW. As the results, the proposed STW based approach showed approximately 10.2% which Is higher than one without use of STW.
There is a close interaction between the linguistic-syntactic representation system and the affective representation system that appear in the mathematical process. On the other hand, since the mathematical conceptual system is fundamentally metaphoric, the analysis of the mathematical concept structure through linguistic representation can help to identify the source of cognitive and affective obstacles that interfere with mathematics learning. In this study, we analyzed the problem-solving protocols of mathematical gifted children from the perspective of cognitive language and meta-affect to identify the relationship between the functional characteristics of the text and metaphor they use and the functional characteristics of meta-affect. As a result, the behavior of the cognitive and affective characteristics of mathematically gifted children differed according to the success of problem solving. In the case of unsuccessful problem-solving, the use of metaphor as an internal representation system was relatively more frequent than in the successful case. In addition, while the cognitive linguistic aspects of metaphors play an important role in problem-solving, meta-affective attributes are closely related to the external representation of metaphors.
