Effects of the fitness among Entrepreneurship, Dynamic capabilities and Innovation activities on Business performance (기업가정신과 동적역량, 혁신활동의 적합성이 경영성과에 미치는 영향)

  • The purposes of this study is to examine the effect of fitness among entrepreneurship, dynamic capabilities and innovation activities on business performance. A survey was conducted and analyzed on small & medium manufacturing companies in Korea with the following result of the study. First, the fitness of entrepreneurship and dynamic capabilities, the fitness of dynamic capabilities and innovation activities, the fitness of entrepreneurship and innovation activities have a significant effect on business performance respectively. Second, the fitness of all the three variables also has a significant positive effect on the performance. Additional path analysis shows that dynamic capabilities and innovation activities have mediating roles between entrepreneurship and business performance. The results imply that not only each of the entrepreneurship, dynamic capabilities, and innovation activities has a positive effect on business performance but also the three factors in harmony have a synergic positive effect on the business performance.

Anti-platelet Aggregation Effect of Cheongpyesagan-tang In Vitro (청폐사간탕(淸肺瀉肝湯)의 혈소판 응집억제 작용에 대한 in vitro 연구)

  • Objective : The study was designed to test the anti-platelet effect of the extract Cheongpyesagan-tang and compare it with aspirin in vitro. Methods : The extract from Cheongpyesagan-tang was made by the pharmacy department of Kyung Hee Oriental Medical Hospital. The extract was investigated for inhibition against the collagen induced aggregation of human platelet suspensions on aggregometry. Aspirin and aspirin-Cheongpyesagan-tang were investigated together. Results : 1. In collagen induced human platelet aggregation test, the extract from Cheongpyesagan-tang significantly inhibited in concentration 30mg/ml (p<0.05), 40mg/ml, 50mg/ml (p<0.001) and the effect depended on concentration over 20mg/ml. 2. Aspirin and aspirin-Cheongpyesagan-tang inhibited collagen induced human platelet aggregation significantly (p<0.001). Aspirin-extract of Cheongpyesagan-tang inhibition rate was higher than aspirin only (p<0.05). Conclusions : The extract of Cheongpyesagan-tang has anti-platelet aggregation and synergic effect with aspirin on human platelet in vitro.

Synergistic effect of curcumin on epigallocatechin gallate-induced anticancer action in PC3 prostate cancer cells

  • Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and curcumin are well known to naturally-occurring anticancer agents. The aim of this study was to verify the combined beneficial anticancer effects of curcumin and EGCG on PC3 prostate cancer cells, which are resistant to chemotherapy drugs and apoptosis inducers. EGCG showed weaker inhibitory effect on PC3 cell proliferation than two other prostate cancer cell lines, LNCaP and DU145. Co-treatment of curcumin improved antiproliferative effect of EGCG on PC3 cells. The protein expressions of p21 were significantly increased by the co-treatment of EGCG and curcumin, whereas it was not changed by the treatment with each individual compound. Moreover, treatments of EGCG and curcumin arrested both S and G2/M phases of PC3 cells. These results suggest that the enhanced inhibitory effect of EGCG on PC3 cell proliferation by curcumin was mediated by the synergic up-regulation of p21-induced growth arrest and followed cell growth arrest. In Vitro Anti-inflammatory Effects of Hyunbulikyung-tang Aqueous Extracts on LPS activated Raw 264.7 Cells, and Synergic Effects with Piroxicam (LPS로 활성화된 대식세포에서 현부리경탕(玄附理經湯)의 시험관내 항염효과 및 Piroxicam과 병용효과)

  • Objectives: To observe the in vitro anti-inflammatory effects of Hyunbulikyung-tang aqueous extracts (HBLKT) and the possible synergic combination effects with a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, piroxicam. Methods: Anti-inflammatory effects of HBLKT (yield=16.17%) were observed on LPS activated raw 264.7 cells based on $ED_{50}$ to cell viability, NO, $PGE_2$, $TNF-{\alpha}$, $IL-1{\beta}$ and IL-6 productions as compared with piroxicam, in the present study. In addition, the combination effects of HBLKT with piroxicam were observed after treatment of HBLKT 1/4 $ED_{50}$ + piroxicam 1/4 $ED_{50}$, 1/8 $ED_{50}$, 1/16 $ED_{50}$, 1/32 $ED_{50}$ and 1/64 $ED_{50}$ concentrations, respectively. Results: Significant (p<0.01 or p<0.05) increases of cell viabilities and decreases of NO, $PGE_2$, $TNF-{\alpha}$, $IL-1{\beta}$ and IL-6 cytokine releases were detected in HBLKT 1/4 $ED_{50}$ + piroxicam 1/4 $ED_{50}$, 1/8 $ED_{50}$, 1/16 $ED_{50}$ and 1/32 $ED_{50}$ concentration co-treatment as compared with each of single 1/4 $ED_{50}$ concentration of piroxicam and HBLKT treatments, respectively. Although significant (p<0.01 or p<0.05) increases of cell viabilities and decreases of NO, $PGE_2$, $TNF-{\alpha}$, $IL-1{\beta}$ and IL-6 cytokine releases were also demonstrated in piroxicam 1/64 $ED_{50}$ + HBLKT 1/4 $ED_{50}$ co-treatment as compared with LPS control, no significant changes were detected as compared with each of single 1/4 $ED_{50}$ concentration of piroxicam and HBLKT treatments, in this experiment. Conclusions: Hyunbulikyung-tang showed cell protective and anti-inflammatory effects against LPS activated raw 264.7 cells. It, therefore, expected that HBLKT will be showed favorable effects to relieve dysmenorrhea related to over expressed inflammatory cytokines, and it also expected that the clinical dosages of piroxicam can be reduced as 1/8 levels as combination with HBLKT.

Up-regulation of Asiaticoside Biosynthesis by Methyl Jasmonate and Thidiazuron in Centella asiatica L. Urban

  • Centella asiatica accumulates large amounts of triterpene saponin, such as centellasaponin, asiaticoside, madecassoside. We examined the effect of two candidates, MJ (Methyl jasmonate) and TDZ (thidiazuron), on asiaticoside production and the accumulation of bAS mRNA associated with asiaticoside biosynthesis in leaves of cultured whole plants. The growth of whole plants treated with 0.1 mM MJ was found to decrease significantly, however, the growth of whole plants treated with 0.1 mM MJ plus 0.025 mg/l TDZ was better than that treated with MJ alone. When MJ alone was added to culture medium, asiaticoside contents in leaves were higher than that of control after 7 days of treatments. The maximum level of bAS $({\beta}-amyrin\;synthsae)$ mRNA in leaves of whole plant treated TDZ and MJ was transiently observed after exposure to 5 days. These results showed the up-regulation of bAS gene by adding TDZ and MJ at the molecular level, however, synergic effects of TDZ and MJ on asiaticoside biosynthesis were not testified.

(no cell survived) A double dilution of the fraction(10ug/ml) still showed strong activity.(0.2 cells survived) The ether fraction contained strong activity. Of the fraction which have veen obtained by a prcparative silicagel TLC I, II, III & IV were cytotoxic, but V and VI were inactive Howevcr, it is worthwhile to note that no one of these has no strong Cytotoxicity as the pertoleum ether fraction itself. This observation says that the active fractions could be additive or synergic to each other. The most active fraction, IV, was scrached out from the TLC and its UV-spectrum taken. The absorption maxima were 207 and 272 nm, indicating the presence of a flavanone strucuture.

  • Cyclophosphazene derivatives were synthesized in order to use as a non-halogen flame retardant for ABS. Chlorocyclophosphazene was reacted with phenol, catechol, aniline, 1,2-diaminobenzene respectively, and each product was characterized by UL94 and LOI test for ABS resin. The physical properties of the sample containing these flame retardants were also characterized. The derivative synthesized from catechol showed best flame retardancy, and the derivative from phenol exhibited the flame retardancy in which the synergic effect was shown with novolac.

  • Perilla [Perilla frutescens (L.) Britt] seedlings are easy to grow and eaten as the health vegetable sprout. Two day old perilla seedlings since germination were given a mild wounding using cell wall lytic NaOH/SDS solution for infiltration with recombinant Agrobacterium cells treated with phenolic compounds. In the analysis of fluorometric GUS gene expression for the transformed perilla seedlings, GUS enzyme activity was the highest by the combined treatments of 50 mM acetosyringone and 0.5% NaOH solution containing 0.01% SDS implying a synergic effect. This result could be successfully applied for demonstrating hepatitis B virus antigen (HBsAg) protein expression.

Blocking of Zeolite Pore by Loading Ni-Pt Nanoparticles for Maximization of Isomerization Selectivity

  • Zeolite HY is wet impregnated with Ni (0.1, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 wt%), Pt (0.1 wt%) and reduced in presence of hydrogen to form nanosized particles of Ni and Pt. All the catalysts were characterized by XRD, TEM, ESCA, NH3-TPD, Pyridine adsorbed FT-IR and BET. Characterization results confirm that the Ni and Pt fractions effectively rehabilitated the physio-chemical properties of the zeolite HY catalysts. Further, all the reduced catalyst were screened with hydroisomerization of m-xylene at LHSV = 2.0 h-1 in the temperature range 250-400 ℃ in steps of 50 ℃ in hydrogen atmosphere (20 ml/g). The addition of Ni to Pt catalyst increases hydroisomerization conversion, as well as maximizes p-xylene selectivity by restricting the pore size. The increasing trend in activity continues up to 0.3 wt% of Ni and 0.1 wt% Pt addition over zeolite HY. The increasing addition of Ni increases the total number of active metallic sites to exposed, which increases the metallic sites/acid sites ratio towards the optimum value for these reactions by better balance of synergic effect for stable activity. The rate of deactivation is pronounced on monometallic catalysts. The results confirm the threshold Ni addition is highly suitable for hydroisomerization reaction for product selectivity over Ni-Pt bimetallic/support catalysts.

Effects of In Vivo Synergism of Mawhangyounpye-tang and Ciprofloxacin against Klebsiella pneumoniae Respiratory Infections (마황윤폐양(麻黃潤肺揚)과 Ciprofloxacin의 병용투여(倂用投與)가 Klebsiella pneumoniae 호흡기(呼吸器) 감양(感梁)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • Objectives & Methods : In order to evaluate the in vivo synergic effect of Mawhangyounpye-tang which was a traditional poly-herbal formula has been used in the treatment of respiratory diseases in Korea, with quinolone antibiotic, ciprofloxacin (CPFX), the viable bacterial number and histopathological changes were monitored after experimental respiratory infection with Klebsiella peumoniae NCTC 9632. Results : The obtained results were as follows : 1. In CPFX group, the viable bacterial numbers were significantly decreased compared to that of control group and these were more dramatically decreased compared to that of single treatment with CPFX, respectively in concomitant treated groups with Mawhangyounpye-tang. 2. In control group, severe infiltration of inflammatory cells, hemorrhage and hypertrophy of alveolar linings were demonstrated at microscopical levels. However, these abnormal histopathological changes were significantly decreased compared to that of control group in CPFX group, and these were more dramatically decreased compared to that of single treatment with CPFX, respectively in concomitant treated groups with Mawhangyounpye-tang. 3. In CPFX group, the LSA (luminal surface of alveoli %) were significantly increased compared to that of control group and these were more dramatically decreased compared to that of single treatment with CPFX, respectively in concomitant treated groups with Mawhangyounpye-tang. Conclusions : It is considered that in vivo antibacterial activity of CPFX was dramatically increased by concomitant use of Mawhangyounpye-tang against Kebsiella pneumoniae NCTC 9632 infection of respiratory tract.
