As the satellite system becomes more complex, the probability of unpredictable failures may be increased due to design inadequacy, experience deficiency, lack of problem recognition. Poor quality control, improper testing, and workmanship fault. Consequently, these problems can lead to the reduction or end of the satellite mission lifetime. This article addresses general satellite failure modes and factors influencing satellite mission life. The mission life factors of LEO sun-synchronous KOMPSAT spacecraft are investigated, in which its mission life is predicted based on these factors. Since the end of mission due to random failures is not predictable, the predictable mission life factors such as power budget, propellant budget, battery charging/discharging cycle, radiation effects payload reliability, single point failure, and redundancy are primarily investigated.

High speed electric trains have nonlinear loads including converters and inverters for the control synchronous motors. Harmonic field measurements have shown that the harmonic contents of a waveform varies with time. Direct application of the harmonic assessment to the snapshot measurements would result in ambiguous conclusions depending on which instant is sampled. A cumulative probabilistic approach is the most commonly used method to solve time varying harmonics. This paper provides an in depth analysis on harmonics field measurement of the high speed electric train loads, harmonics assessment by the international harmonic standards IEC 61000-3-6 and IEEE Std. 519-1992, and harmonics simulation using EDSA program for the case study.

An open-end winding (OEW) permanent magnet synchronous motor with dual inverters can synthesize large voltages for a motor with the same DC link voltage. This ability has the advantage of reducing the use of DC/DC boost converters or high voltage batteries. However, zero-sequence voltage (ZSV), which is caused by the difference in the combined voltage between the primary and secondary inverters, can generate a zero-sequence current (ZSC) that increases system losses. Among the methods for eliminating this phenomenon, combining voltage vector eliminated ZSV cannot be accomplished by the conventional Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) method. In this study, a PWM carrier generation method using functionalization to generate a switching pattern to suppress ZSC is proposed and applied to analyze the control influence of the center-zero vector in the switching sequence about the current ripple.

Thanks to the data processing facilities of modern digital computers, the performances of radar has been promoted greatly as one of the main components of command and control systems along with the computer communications. In this study, radar data integrating and processing systems were designed for the data processing of various information from many kinds of radar in a single data processing system. The performance of the data integrating system was analyzed by applying queueing theory. A radar data integrating network was designed for synchronous relational operations among the information processing systems and the transmission characteristics were also analysed by specific models for each system. The designed data integrating systems can be divided into a simplex type and a distributed multiplex type.

A visual concurrent programming environment, called ESTGVP is designed and implemented, which is easy to understand, highly portable, and can represent parallel behaviors. For our purpose, a conventional state transition graph is extended so as to enable both of synchronous and asynchronous parallel operations. We call it extended state transition graph (ESTG). ESTGVP uses the ESTG and texts for programming, and makes it easy programming sequential and parallel behaviors. Also, it is easy to understand the control structure of a program because ESTGVP is a visual programming environment based on the graph. ESTGVP is written in Tel language and thus it is highly portable on various operating systems. It consists of three major components; edition, transformation and execution. If necessary, ESTG can be transformed into C or Tel language, and its execution is based on Tel.

LMTT (Linear Motor based Transfer Technology), which is a new type transfer system used in the maritime container terminal for the port automation, is driven by PM LSM (Permanent Magnetic Linear Synchronous Motor), and largely consists of a controller, shuttle car, and rail. The shuttle car is divided into the frame part, the driving part, and wheels. Because the shuttle car is supported by four wheels in opposition to have five times length for the width of it, a larger deflection than other transfer system using the linear motor occurs. This deflection changes the gap between the mover and the stator, and then brings on an ununiform thrust force. So in this study, we dealt with the structural design for the mover of the shuttle car to generate the uniform thrust force for the efficient control of it. For the investigation, the thickness for each beam of the mover was adopted as design variables, the weight of the mover as objective function, and stress and deflection of the mover as constraint condition.

In this dissertation, a complete model of commutatorless static Kramer type slip power recovery system of 3.phi. induction motor has been designed and tested in the laboratory, and the experimental results are compared with the numerical values. The main results of this study are summerized as follows. (1) Maintenance and repair of the mechanical commutator is obviated by adopting a thyristor commutator in place of the mechanical commutator in the conventional Kramer system. (2) The experimental results of developed torque, and stator current are generally coincided with the numerical values obtained by the derived equation, proving their validity. (3) This system is simulated and the following operational characteristics are obtained with suitable design values : (a) The speed control range of 7:1 is obtained when the turn ratio of induction motor is lowered to about 3:1 to 4:1 and the generating constant of auxiliary synchronous motor is increased to 120-175 range. (b) Its efficiency can be increased to 75-85%, the range for static Scherbius system and its power factor takes values in the range of 65-85%, which is twice of the range for static Scherbius system.
There are many types of grid-connected inverter controllers, PI controller based is the most popular methods. But, a common PI control is produced zero-steady state error and phase delay in sinusoidal reference. Synchronous reference frame or DQ transform based controller is capable for reducing both of zero-steady state error and phase delay is. But DQ transform based controller has cross-coupling component which difficult to analyze the system in single phase model. In this paper, to obtained single phase model of the system, DQ transform based controller is analyzed in two techniques. The first is by neglecting cross-coupling. The second is eliminated cross-coupling component by decoupling method. By these two techniques, single phase model is obtained. Then, the single phase model is analyzed to evaluate its performance in stability and frequency response, through Root Locus and Bode diagram, respectively. MATLAB and PSIM simulation is used to verify the analysis. Simulation result is shown; cross-coupling component has no significant influent to the controller.

The constraint conditions are the stator voltage and the stator current to operate the motor in the flux weakening region. The maximum current is limited by the inverter current rating and the machine thermal rating. Given DC link voltage to control the motor in the flux weakening the maximum voltage is determined by considering PWM strategy, dead time, voltage drop of the inverter switching device, and the margin of the voltage for current forcing. In this paper, the new method to determine the available maximum voltage is derived by the quantitative method and by considering the factors of the voltage drop. The proposed method to determine the maximum voltage is very useful to improve the stability of the motor system and to enlarge the speed operation region in the flux weakening operation. Therefore the utility of the maximum voltage is increased.

This paper proposes a novel method to reduce the torque ripple due to the non-ideality of the current sensing parts in vector-controlled inverter-fed AC motor drive systems. For PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor), motor output torque equations are derived in terms of their offset voltages and different voltage transducing gains. And the effects of phase current errors on motor torque are analyzed for both salient PMSM and non-salient PMSM. The proposed method can eliminate the torque ripple by nulling the offset voltages and setting the voltage transducing gains to the same value. To verify the proposed method, digital simulations are carried out for non-salient PMSM.
