  • According to the structure characteristics of the non-uniform beam bridge, a practical model for calculating the vibration equation of the non-uniform beam bridge is given and the application scope of the model includes not only the beam bridge structure but also the non-uniform beam with added masses and elastic supports. Based on the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory, extending the application of the modal perturbation method and establishment of a semi-analytical method for solving the vibration equation of the non-uniform beam with added masses and elastic supports based is able to be made. In the modal subspace of the uniform beam with the elastic supports, the variable coefficient differential equation that describes the dynamic behavior of the non-uniform beam is converted to nonlinear algebraic equations. Extending the application of the modal perturbation method is suitable for solving the vibration equation of the simply supported and continuous non-uniform beam with its arbitrary added masses and elastic supports. The examples, that are analyzed, demonstrate the high precision and fast convergence speed of the method. Further study of the timesaving method for the dynamic characteristics of symmetrical beam and the symmetry of mode shape should be developed. Eventually, the effects of elastic supports and added masses on dynamic characteristics of the three-span non-uniform beam bridge are reported.

  • In this work, we show that the excessive lattice heating problem due to parasitic pnp transistor action in the diode electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection device in the diode input protection circuit, which is favorably used in CMOS RF ICs, can be solved by adopting a symmetrical cathode structure. To explain how the recipe works, we construct an equivalent circuit for input human-body model (HBM) test environment of a CMOS chip equipped with the diode protection circuit, and execute mixed-mode transient simulations utilizing a 2-dimensional device simulator. We attempt an in-depth comparison study by varying device structures to suggest valuable design guidelines in designing the protection diodes connected to the $V_{DD}$ and $V_{SS}$ buses. Even though this work is based on mixed-mode simulations utilizing device and circuit simulators, the analysis given in this work clearly explain the mechanism involved, which cannot be done by measurements.

  • Linear motors can drive a linear motion without intermediate gears, screws or crank shafts. Linear motors can successfully replace ball lead screw in machine tools because they have a high velocity, acceleration and good positioning accuracy. On the other hand, linear motors emit large amounts of heat and have low efficiency. In this paper, the thermal behavior of a synchronous linear motor with high velocity and force is analyzed. To improve the thermal characteristics of the linear motor, structure of linear motor and cooler is changed. Some effects of an integrated cooler, an U-cooler and a thermal symmetrical cooler are presented.

  • For space weather forecast, it is important to determine three-dimensional parameters of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). To estimate three-dimensional parameters of CMEs, we have developed a full ice-cream cone model which is a combination of a symmetrical flat cone and a hemisphere. By applying this model to 12 SOHO/LASCO halo CMEs, we find that three-dimensional parameters from our method are similar to those from other stereoscopic methods. For several geoeffective CME events, we determine CME mass by applying the Solarsoft procedure (e.g., cme_mass.pro) to SOHO/LASCO C3 images. CME volumes are estimated from the full ice-cream cone structure. We derive CME mean density as a function of CME height for these CMEs, which are approximately fitted to power-law functions. We find that the ICME mean densities extrapolated from the power law functions, are correlated with their corresponding ICME ones in logarithmic scales.

  • Engineering thermoplastics with useful properties at elevated temperatures usually contain aromatic units in its chemical structure, especially symmetrical aryl groups such as 1, 4-phenylene, 4, 4'-biphenylene, and 2, 6-naphthalene. Aromatic groups often impart molecular rigidity, which contributes to high glass transition temperature and good thermal stability, and also to high melting point in semicrystalline polymers. • The SCN-TLM method presented in this paper is another independent approaches for obtaining frequency domain results for microstrip line. The structure analysed with this TLM algorithm is step discontinuity microstrip line and the symmetrical condensed node is used. After numerical analysis, the frequency dependent scattering parameters of a step discontinuity microstrip line have been calculated by Fourier transform of the time domain data. From the time domain TLM numerical results, this numerical analysis is shown to be an efficient method for modelling complicated structure as step discontinuity microstrip line.

  • Reconfiguration and miniaturization of antennas have become key attributes in modern wireless communication systems. Reconfiguration of radiation pattern can alleviate the problems encountered in modern wireless communication systems such as multi-path problems. Physical limitation of miniaturization also can be overcome by using a zeroth-order resonance (ZOR) antenna based on metamaterial. In order to achieve reconfiguration and miniaturization of antennas at the same time, we propose a new pattern reconfigurable zeroth-order resonance (ZOR) antenna that reconfigures the radiation patterns by varying the position and the number of unit cells comprising the antenna. The antenna is fabricated in an equilateral triangular shaped symmetrical structure to increase pattern variety. This structure can easily provide eight different radiation patterns (two omnidirectional and six monopole like patterns).

  • In space weather forecast, it is important to determine three-dimensional properties of CMEs. Using 29 limb CMEs, we examine which cone type is close to a CME three-dimensional structure. We find that most CMEs have near full ice-cream cone structure which is a symmetrical circular cone combined with a hemisphere. We develop a full ice-cream cone model based on a new methodology that the full ice-cream cone consists of many flat cones with different heights and angular widths. By applying this model to 12 SOHO/LASCO halo CMEs, we find that 3D parameters from our method are similar to those from other stereoscopic methods (i.e., a triangulation method and a Graduated Cylindrical Shell model). In addition, we derive CME mean density (${\bar{\rho}_{CME}}={\frac{M_{total}}{V_{cone}}}$) based on the full ice-cream cone structure. For several limb events, we determine CME mass by applying the Solarsoft procedure (e.g., cme_mass.pro) to SOHO/LASCO C3 images. CME volumes are estimated from the full ice-cream cone structure. For the first time, we derive average CME densities as a function of CME height for several CMEs, which are well fitted to power-law functions. We will compare densities (front and average) of geoeffective CMEs and their corresponding ICME ones.

  • In this paper, an planar antenna which has omnidirectional radiation pattern in H-plane and low profile is proposed. By adding inductance elements of an ENG shell structure, a capacitance element of an electrically small antenna is easily achieved with impedance matching. An ENG shell structure is consist of a inductive loading structure which has symmetrical four stepped L-shape slots. The simulated result shows, the impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 150MHz (2.5 ~ 2.65GHz). The simulated maximum radiation gain of proposed antenna is 1.12 dBi at center frequency 2.56GHz. Omnidirectional radiation pattern is achieved. The proposed antenna will be applied to wireless lan access point system.

  • Using the extended Hackel molecular orbital method in connection with the tight binding model, we have studied electronic structure and related properties of the charged cluster models relating to superconducting $YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-x}$, crystals in which O-atoms in regular sites were selectively replaced with Se atoms. In analogy to the isomorphism problem with molecules, we discuss all possible combinations of Se-substitutions in O-sites with one, two, and four Se atoms. The calculations are carried out within charged cluster models for analogues of YBa-copper oxide. Our results suggest that the electronic structure of the symmetrically Se-substituted or Se-added compound is closer to that of the YBCO superconducting compound than that obtained from the unsymmetrical substitution. This applies in particular if O is replaced with Se around the Cu(1) site. Symmetrical substitutions in the $CuO_2$ layers give rise to large variations in the electronic structure of $YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7}$. This is consistent with the fact that superconductivity is very sensitive to the electronic population of the $CuO_2$ layers.
