  • The study documents the analysis on characters and symbols shown in the pavement markings in the perspective of mathematics educators. The purpose of this study is to propose a pavement marking method that can enhance readability from the driver's eye position. To this end, this study analyzed the figure of the pavement markings that can be actually recognized by the projective geometry perspective. As a result, it proposed alternatives to the current pavement markings by introducing the concept of the compression ratio. Results of the study are as follows. First, the rule was established to obtain the compression ratio. If the observation of two viewing angles are x and y, then the compression ratio S is ${\sin}y/{\cos}\(\frac{x-y}{2}\)$. Second, we presented two alternatives to the pavement marking method for the displayed information. One is a method for improving the pavement markings in terms of the compression ratio, the other is a method by varying vertical length of the pavement markings while holding its width constant. Based on the outcomes from this study, a mathematical analysis can be further studied for the perception of speed according to the types of pavement marking line.

  • In post-industrial society, the ability to feel and express emotion is becoming ever more important. In diverse areas of our lives such as economic, social, political and cultural activities, we are witnessing an increased application of the emotional dimension. This paper deals with the human experiences in emotional designs. Literature reviews and case analyses have been used as the main research methods. I first examine the aspects of emotional experience in designs, and then go on to analyze the components of each aspect. Emotional experience in designs has three basic aspects : (a) initially there exist user's emotional needs (b) then these emotions are delivered through design, (c) finally, emotions expressed in designs are experienced by the user. Followings are the related components for each aspect : (a) Physiological, psychological, social and cultural factors cause one to feel emotional needs. (b) Emotion is delivered either through visual symbols, experience, interaction and participation. (c) Emotion is experienced by sensing, feeling, thinking, acting and relating.

  • The Charm is composed of various kind of ancient signs, letters and systematic characters so that they delivers messages with many expressions. They, compared with the experimental typography, are more logical and experimental than we generally think. Also, they have meanings and attributes as characters do, in which there are symbols, hieroglyphs, pictures and other similar words. Each attribute diverse from symbolic meaning, associates to deconstruction of letters. It is needed to review the experimental attributes of charms with the view of structural typography for potentialities of expression. The purpose of the study is to analyze and classify the morphologic construction of charms so that we can find the possibilities of applying the attributes to visual languages and typography. Future study seems to be extending the area of expressing of typography fit for our own culture, not for Western

  • The purpose of the study is to understand the symbolic meaning of jewelry. Among various characteristics of symbols, the symbolic meaning represents the correlation between meanings. Wearing jewelry is an instinctive action that can be witnessed from ancient civilizations. Man used jewelry for various purposes, as an ornament, an amulet, a symbol of wealth or power or as a token of love. In this study, I have researched the symbolic meaning of jewelry in its historic background focusing on rings that show the strongest symbolic characteristic among jewelries. Whereas the symbolic meaning of jewelry was strongly accentuated in the ancient and medieval times, it was gradually weakened in the modern time. Also, while jewelry in the ancient and medieval times showed commonness and universality, jewelry in modern time expressed individuality. Although the meaning of jewelry changed progressively by interacting with the external environment, jewelry has always roused sense and symbolism from our hearts and has acted as a means to express ideas and emotions of human beings.

  • The decay of the Old Chinese Dynasty, Tang in the 10th century caused the collapse of the political order of Southeast Asia and the neighboring countries began to try to go their own way. Japan abolished the system called "Yudangsa" and nourished the culture of Japanese style. The fang age had a respect of the′Japanese Character Culture", in which when we expressed the sound, they developed the Japanese letters ,that is, reduced Chinese characters, and systematized them as linguistic symbols and developed them into one of letter design styles. The Japanese letters which was mainly the media of the expression of the female literature were delicately shaped ′as natural materials, which finally resulted in Japan′s oldest letter modeling, Asite Letter Design Style. The Japanese letters were blended with ′Reeds around the Lake", "Sea Birds", "Birds′flying", and "Rocks", mixed with the overall shapes of the objects and assimilated into one part, and became a means for the main entertainment of the nobility such as "Singing Festival", "Conference", and "Ceremonial Events" According to the relics, the Japanese feeling of a small cosmos was represented with the fabulous skills of artifacts. In audition, "Play Painting"in the countryside is also a kind of Asite the ordinary people accepted as wit and satire. What we will have to notice is about exchange of the Chinese letter designs, when the thought focused ′on the letter design, Jobcheso was popular. The letter design Jobcheso is -a kind of letter design which represents -natural objects and was popular at the time of Yukjo Dynasty, and there are some documents of that period left both in Japan and Korea. "Hyojedo" in Korea is supposed to have been influenced by the letter design. Asite- is also considered to have been "Japanese Letter Jobcheso." Therefore, the purpose of this study is to look into the origin of the letter designs in the Chinese character culture circle, in terms of the letter design of Jobcheso.

  • The aims of this study is figure out the characteristics of justification patterns and mathematical representation which are derived from 14 mathematically gifted middle school students in the process of solving the spatial tasks on Archimedean solid. This study shows that mathematically gifted students apply different types of justification such as empirical, or deductive justification and partial or whole justification. It would be necessary to pay attention to the value of informal justification, by comparing the response of student who understood the entire transformation process and provided a reasonable explanation considering all component factors although presenting informal justification and that of student who showed formalization process based on partial analysis. Visual representation plays an valuable role in finding out the Idea of solving the problem and grasping the entire structure of the problem. We found that gifted students tried to create elaborated symbols by consolidating mathematical concepts into symbolic re-presentations and modifying them while gradually developing symbolic representations. This study on justification patterns and mathematical representation of mathematically gifted students dealing with spatial geometry tasks provided an opportunity for understanding their the characteristics of spacial geometrical thinking and expending their thinking.

  • Arts is the expression of reasoning and conscious life of human and arouse human the concept of existence, utmost emotion and excellent thoughts. Also it makes humans life very abundant. I make it come first to get rid of the art thirst on the opposite sight of technical one for hair as on part of humans body. Next purpose is that to confirm the esthetic value of 'hair arts' by solidify the academic ground of beauty arts through creating 'hair arts' works and learning and make the direction for the beauty industry and education of the next generation. In this study I investigated the Greek myth(the background and develop)and the hair styles of ancient Greek Goddesses. On the basis of that symbols I elaborated hair formative works made of metal and studied, analyzed and displayed that. Work No.1 'Aphrodite' is the sculpture showing the win of love which animated. I formed it very active and vigorous. Next 'Birth of Venus', No.2, involves fineness and freshness. 'Fear of Medusa', the third piece, displays the very second when medusa was executed as a beautiful and active scene not a scary one. And lastly in 'Lovely Medusa' Medusa finally find the stability and it was expressed her beautiful and shining hair. So this study conducted based on the concept of practical hair and have made efforts to be close to theoretical manufacturing research needed at making hair arts works and academic one needed at organic design composition for pioneering new field, 'art hair.' I hope these 'hair arts' works make creativity of the practise hair alive. It will be very thankful to me if this study can help even though slightly for splendid beauty arts to make its status firm as a one part of arts, and there are following studies.

  • In order to suggest the useful information of fishing ground, a data base system on 32bit personal computer was developed and handled by using the catch data of Korean tuna long -line. This data base system was programmed using Quick Basic, and consisted of three kinds of programs, one for displaying the catch rate on the fishing ground by fishing area and year ranges, another for indicating the catch rate or number on table or graph, and the other for estimating the fishing ground in economical points, mainly targeting total tunas, yellowfin and bigeye tuna respectively. When this system was started, the map of oceans such as the Pacific, the Indian and the Atlantic, is drawn on the monitor. And then the catch rates of all species and each one are indicated by the figured symbols on the sea divisions of$5^{\circ}$ space of latitute and longitude.

  • A Study on the Characteristics of the Modern Chair Design The features of the modern chair design results from the diverse life style unfolded as per the 20th century social structure and the change of the residential space, and new design has been being developed by the scientists and the artists in various fields through their cooperated work in a way. The field of the scientific or technical study and creation of arts can be developed where they can evoke the sympathy in the circumstances under which the various styles of both arts and science meet across, complement crash together, and grow up. The operation which can control in the network of such pluralistic sphere has been needed for a long period and it has been facing the needs from a time and society. The engineering furniture as the counterplan of the above has brought the value of materials into relief to the forms of human life by making the properties of matter the maximum value or changing it. It can be summarized as following characteristics in its materials and forms along as well as the 3 types (handycrafty, mechanical, and ecological expression) in process through the 20th century. 1. Characteristics in Materials elasticity of the chair as per the changes of the flexibility in the steel pipe development of systematic chair using the plasticity of the plywood, plastic, and wire lightweight due to the materials such as aluminum. 2. Formative characteristics formative simplicity for the increase of the function and the quality improvement such as sociality, productivity, environmental and aesthetic nature emphasis on the structure as per the architectural environment and tecniques pursuit of the forms as a container of the human body seeking for the formative values as the cultural symbols coping with the needs from thepluralistic social structure Furniture is not the makeup for convenience sake but most importantexpression as necessaries of our environments. It should identify itself always as per these kind of needs and also it should be able to used to keep the relation of such mutual division, otherwise the purchase of new furniture should be necessary according to every change of the existing situatiov. Our residence doesn't need the specific style but expresses only the properties of the dwellers.

  • After the modern age, the rapid urbanizationhad a big impact on the then architecture. R. Venturi and A. Rossi are two of the leading architects, developing architecture in cities in the US and Europe respectively. This study shed light on a tangible and intangible meaning and interpretation of urban landscapes through their architectural thoughts and architectures. The followings are the physical and intangible meaning and interpretation in architectural thoughts and works of those two architects. Venturi understood that iconological landscapes at the roadside in large citiesare the nature of physical landscapes. To Venturi, the façades of buildings at the roadside are a part of signage such as traffic lights and road signs, and those façades have the meaning of symbolic systems beyond simple physical landscapes. To A. Rossi, types of buildings as physical townscapes are a key role supporting raw data of classification in architecture. And also, those types have significance of the basic data shedding light on the principles and history of cities. For intangible factors in R. Venturi's architecture, daily routine, function and use, time, a use for a building and others form complex architecture. And also, those factors describe shared values of the same period as the façades of buildings and complex symbols and formative lexicons in metaphorical terms. For A. Rossi's intangible factors, 'collective memory' is buried in inhabitants of the city, and with that, the city is a place for memory to its inhabitants. What is more, cities' monuments have intangible landscapes like 'sustainability', 'permanence' and so on. With lots of events happening throughoutcities, those monuments are the whole images of cities giving the value to the urban buildings that reside in cities. Finally, R. Venturi's all-encompassing complex architecture concept was extended on a tangible and intangible point of townscapes. It was found that A. Rossi's tangible thought was formed from the whole landscape of historic cities in then Italy as the background of time and place. Also, With types of urban buildings and 'collective memory', A. Rossi drew architectural norms and formats of unchangeable types.
