  • The purpose of this study is to find out the characteristics of landscape details in representing symbolic images in memorials on the themes of war, tragedy, and the democratization movement. In considering the characteristics of memorial landscapes, the researcher divided the characteristics of landscape details into 3 analysis categories. They are the symbolic application of landscape elements, the embodiment of landscape details, and the organization of landscape details to represent symbolic images, for example, memory, mourning, reflection, healing, glory, and identity. Among details in 24 memorials designed in or after 1970. 133 symbolic details were selected including 64 items in Korea. The analysis revealed that among 30 elements used by designers for memorialization, walls, ponds, sculptures were used more often than other elements in representing the meaning of mourning, reflection, and healing that are the basic function of memorial. In regard to detail form, the designers used basic shapes like circles, squares and rectangles, horizontal and vertical lines to heighten the symbolic effect of shapes in confined form. Stone and water utilized from nature were also used as main materials because of their materiality meaning of death, eternity, life, and healing. The techniques of using lighting, fire, and sound were introduced to make details more effective. Details were organized in harmony and repetition to represent the flew of time and space in symbolic images. The study identified the following characteristics of memorial landscapes in Korea that were different from other country first, in designing memorials, most designers in Korea have been more focused on the organization of space than the details in memorials, and so, they have been neglecting to deliver symbolic image through detail design, while depending mainly on the introduction of art works. Lastly, because they introduced traditional elements which have little relation with the symbolic image needed, there have been many details which inaccurately represent symbolic meanings.

The results revealed that the shape of the front display shape significantly influenced symbolic value, with circle shape and square shpae showing significantly higher symbolic value than rectangle shape. Wristband materials also had a significant impact on symbolic value, with metal and leather showing higher symbolic value among various materials. Additionally, an increase in product size was associated with higher symbolic value. Moreover, certain technical features such as activity tracker, alarm clock, and distance tracking influenced perceived functional value, while functions like time display, GPS, and email influenced perceived aesthetic value. Pedometer, GPS, and email were found to enhance perceived symbolic value. These findings provide valuable insights into consumer preferences for smart wristbands and smartwatches, serving as valuable information for product improvement and new product development.

  • This study investigated the type of fashion brand concepts and derived the components of fashion brand concepts. A total of 125 brand concept texts of women's wear brands were collected from "2012/2013 Korea Fashion Brand Annual" (S. M. Kim, 2012). A qualitative research method was employed. To investigate the types of fashion brand concepts, the texts were classified into three types such as functional, symbolic, and experiential concepts, and four complex types such as functional/symbolic, functional/experiential, symbolic/experiential, and functional/symbolic/experiential concepts. Open coding and axial coding provided the components of fashion brand concepts. The results were as follows. First, an investigation of the types of fashion brand concepts indicated differences in the types of fashion brand concepts and the types of general product brand concepts. One content of a fashion brand concept could be interpreted as more than two concept types; consequently, many fashion brand concepts did not fit the notion of the types of general product brand concept. Most fashion brand concepts simultaneously encompassed more than two types of brand concepts at once. Second, the components of fashion brand concepts consisted of 55 subjects, 7 sub-categories (physical/intrinsic product characteristics, symbolic/conceptual product characteristics, target demographics, target consumer behavior, brand capability, brand values, and brand management/marketing) and 3 categories (product, target consumer, and brand).

  • A research model was developed in this study from previous research to illustrate the relationship among perceived scarcity, assumed expensiveness of art products, perceived functional value, perceived symbolic value as well as purchase for self and others. 639 valid cases who have experienced NFT art products have been collected for data analyses. The R software has been chosen for analysis. The results have revealed that perceived scarcity was positively related to perceived functional value and perceived symbolic value, but it was assumed that the expensiveness of art products was not significantly related to perceived functional value or perceived symbolic value. Moreover, functional value was significantly related to the purchase intention of both self and others, while symbolic value only was significantly affected by the purchase intention of others. The results of this study have provided managerial implications for future studies.

First of all, the implications of the research were that mascots were more strongly expressing the "football" signifying element, the theme of events, rather than regional characteristics. Second, the use of 'national flag' was highlighted among the elements of expressing regional characteristics. Third, 'animal' was preferred for mascot material. Fourth, mascots have become integrated with 'cultural perfumes' and play an extended role in raising social awareness.
