Design concepts of light can be divided into two respects, visual plastic and metaphysical meaning. The current research focuses on the second respect. The meaning of light is abstract characteristics(for example, divinity, spirituality, or image) ultimately expressed by visual plastic. Because it makes architectural space abundant, it have been expressed frequently in architectural space until now. The purpose of this paper is to conceptualize and explain and arrange the meanings of light in the category that have been expressed in architectural space from ancient to current. The method of this study is content analysis and case study, and this is supplement by theoretical consideration on the meaning of light(relationship between perception and meaning, elements to form meaning etc.). This study consists of three steps. Firstly, through the content analysis of existing literature and documents, 17 meanings of light are confirmed. Secondly, these 17 meanings are defined and explained in 3 categories(symbolic, esthetic, and experiential character). Thirdly, they are additionally explained and articulated by case study. In the result, various meanings of light that have been fragmentarily expressed in architectural space until now is clearly arranged at a glance. Those suggested design concepts will be basic conferential material, available to the interior designers and students who want to utilize the organised study concepts.

색채는 침묵적인 언어이다. 영화 색채는 영화에서 하나의 중요한 표현 요소이자 또한 하나의 종합적인 언어적 시스템이다. 영화 색채는 아주 강한 상징성을 지닌다. 색채의 상징성 즉, 일정한 색으로 일종의 이성과 관념의 함의를 은유하는 것을 의미한다. 현재 수많은 감독들은 색채를 통해 그 상징적 의미를 표현하는데 큰 관심을 갖고 있다. 색채가 자연적인 물질의 형식 일수록 외관은 일종의 상당히 중요한 의미가 풍부한 조형적 요소로 승화된다. 이에 색채의 상징적 의미도 영화 색채와 기능에서 하나의 중요한 요소로 되었다. 장예모 감독의 영화 "영웅"과 Michelangelo Antonioni 감독의 영화 "빨간 사막" 두 영화에 나타난 색채에 대한 서로 다른 응용방식과 표현수단을 분석하여 영화에서 색채가 하나의 독특한 표현 언어로서의 중요성을 표현한다.

The Kut is the core of the traditional folk religion. The afterlife wedding Kut actually performs a traditional wedding ceremony by personifying the deceased in the process of performing the composition of Kut geori that cannot be observed from other Kuts, which is an important means to convey the situation of Kut more clearly. A traditional wedding ceremony performed in the Kut enables the audience to understand the meaning behind the Kut. The costume worn in the traditional wedding ceremony of the afterlife wedding Kut makes the audience understand the existence of the deceased by the use of a scarecrow dialect and makes them feel a vivid sense of the scene emitting from the Kut, which performs a traditional wedding ceremony in the composition of Kut geori. The results of this study showed that a shaman who led the afterlife wedding Kut had a scarecrow that symbolized the bride and a bridegroom wear the traditional wedding costume in order to visualize the deceased and express the symbol of a wedding which could not be made in this world. It can be interpreted that the traditional costume derived from the afterlife wedding Kut plays a symbolic role, which converts the deceased into a living person through the formal aspect of ceremonial costume and the cultural aspect of wedding ceremony.

한국은 오래전부터 '고양이 앙화'에 대한 선입견으로 고양이를 많이 꺼리는 문화였지만 근래 들어 반려동물로 고양이가 증가하고 고양이 소재로 그림책과 에세이, 웹툰 등이 국내 독자에게 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 사노 요코 그림책을 살펴보았을 때 국내 출판된 그림책의 약 50%가 고양이를 소재로 한 그림책이며 이중 '100만 번 산 고양이'는 전 세계적으로 밀리언셀러이다. 연구방법은 사노 요코 그림책에 표현된 고양이 캐릭터가 그림책 스토리 주인공 외에 다른 상징적 의미가 있는가? 를 중심으로 국내 번역 출판된 작가의 고양이 캐릭터 그림책 5권을 사례로 분석하였으며 결과로 도출된 그림책의 고양이 캐릭터 성격 및 상징적 의미와 표현기법을 이미지와 함께 제시하였다. 연구 결과로 사노는 고양이를 통해서 고양이가 고양이듯 우리 자신의 '자유의지'를 존중하며 사랑할 것을 그림책에 담고 있다. 결론으로 그림책에서 고양이 캐릭터의 상징적 의미는 대부분 작가자신이고 때로는 아들과 엄마로 상징됨을 알 수 있었다. 공통으로 사용된 캐릭터 색과 유사한 짙은 윤곽선은 온유한 캐릭터와 때로는 독선적인 강한 성격 그리고 정적이거나 동적인 움직임을 극화시키고 있다.

론 하워드 감독의 <뷰티플 마인드>는 세계적인 천재 수학자인 존 내쉬의 삶을 영화화 한 것이다. 주인공 존 내쉬는 환각과 망상이 동반된 정신분열병 환자이고 뚜렷한 3사람의 환상으로 나타난다. 이 3인에 대한 해석이 그동안 연구자들에 의해 서로 다른 주장을 해 왔지만 그 주장이 일관성을 상실하고 있는 부분이 많다. 특히 소녀에 대한 해석이 아예 없거나 늙지 않는 인물이어서 주인공이 환각속의 인물임을 인정하는 것으로 해석하고 있다. 이 영화에서 환상인물을 론 하워드 감독은 많이 알아야 많이 본다는 올더스 헉슬리의 이론을 채용하지는 않았지만 독특한 방법으로 이 인물들에 대한 해석을 해 놓음으로서 관객의 수준에 맞는 해석을 해도 무방하다는 태도이다. 환상인물은 주인공 존 내쉬의 머릿속에서 나온 가상의 인물이며 그가 갈망하고 원하는 인물로 표현된다. 인간의 가장 기본적인 욕망인 물욕, 성욕, 명예욕이 바로 그것이며 명석한 내쉬는 그 세 가지 욕망을 가상의 세계를 통하여 치밀하게 3인을 투영한다. 그 동안 논란이 되어온 3인의 환상의미에 대해서 명쾌하게 해석함으로 영화 속에 등장하는 환상인물들의 상징의미를 새롭게 제시하고자 한다.

Whitehead's discussion of language is not to be found in any one book or article. It is interwoven with his discussion of many other questions. He was, however, greatly concerned with the problem of symbolism in general and the uses of language. He regards language, spoken or written, as an instrument devised by men to aid them in their adjustment to the environment in which they live Language is used for many specific purposes in the process of this adjustment. Words are employed not only to refer to data and to express emotions. They may be used also to record experiences, and thoughts about these experiences. Worts also function as instruments in the organization of experiences as they are considered in retrospect. Thus words free us from the bondage of the immediate. And Whitehead's theory of meaning is implicit in his discussion of the functions of language. According to him, the human mind is functioning symbolically when some components of its experience elicit consciousness, beliefs, emotions, and usages, respecting other components of its experiences. The former set of components are the 'symbols', and the latter set constitute the 'meaning' of the symbols. Whitehead points out that one word may have several meanings, i.e. refer to several different data. In order to understand, thus, the meaning to which a word refers, it is sometimes very important to appreciate the system of thought within which a person is operating. Further, Whitehead's discussion of language includes a number of cogent warning the deficiencies of language, and hence the need for great care in the use of words. In fact, language developed gradually. For the most part we have created words designed to deal with practical problems. Attention focuses on the prominent features in a situation, in particular the changing aspects of things. With reference to such data our words are relatively adequate. However, this issues in an unfortunate superficiality. The enduring, the subtle, the complex and the general aspects of the universe do not have adequate verbal representation. for this reason, Whitehead's position concerning the uses of language in speculative philosophy is stated with pungent directness. The uncritical trust in the adequacy of language is one of the main errors to which philosophy is liable. Since ordinary language does not do justice to the generalities, profundities and complexities of life, it is obvious that philosophy requires new words and phrases, or at least the revision of familiar words and phrases. Proceeding to develop the theme Whitehead contends that words and phrases must be stretched towards a generality foreign to their ordinary usage. In the same vein Whitehead refers to the need to realize that language which is the tool of philosophy needs to be redesigned just as in physical science available physical apparatus needs to be redesigned. But even these words and phrases, stretched or redesigned, are never completely adequate in philosophical speculations. They are, in his opinion, merely a great improvement over ordinary language or the language science, mathematics or symbolic logic.

Jambangee's advertisements in spring 1998 attracted public attention by the differentiating message of 'nationalism'. The purpose of this paper is to interpret Korean youth's culture of consumption, value, thought and culture expressed in these advertisements. The semiotic analytic method of F. Saussure and R. Barthe were used. Metaphor and metonymy as interpretive tools were used. Two levels of meaning, denotation and connotation were examined, and idelogies and mythologies were sought. Contrary to the most of jean advertisements which show youth, characteristic style, western life style and westernized beauty, refinement, materialism, and social differentiation, Jambangee's advertisement showed nationalism and patriotism. These advertisements criticized that preference of imported goods and ostentation of purchasing power brought crisis of economy and I.M.F. system. Jambangee's jeans symbolized as the meaning of nationalism and patriotism were suggested as a way to save our country. Jambangee's advertisements are meaningful. Because we had accepted western fashion passively so far, but for the first time Jambangee applied Korean design elements to jeans and gave new meanings to them through the 'nationalism'campaign.

The paper is the principle of a curriculum, a recent method of teaching-learning in pedagogy, and intended for the exploration of the meaning of which reconstructs curriculum by narrative through practical exploration and narrative being discussed as the form of exploration. To date, Korean education showed an inclination of the traditional paradigm centered thinking and has emphasized the results by the method of scientific investigation. Even a curriculum reconstruction demonstrates documents that produce results without actually demonstrating the actual school setting. With communication one another is becoming increasingly important, we need the conversion of cognitive thinking that can express dilemma, contradictions, and complexities of the human world of which unexplainable by traditional paradigm mindset. Ultimately, the exploration of the direction that reflects a series of verbal, symbolic, and spiritual activities, which analyze lives of students, understanding and composing the meaning by using narrative, which talks about the experience of the human world in curriculums, is an important task for us.

In this paper I try to understand the meaning of "water" which plays an important role in the novels by Syusaku Endo and Sokyu Genyu. These two Japanese writers also have a deep interest in the interreligious dialogue, especially in the encounter between Christianity and the Buddhism. By analyzing Hukai Kawa(1993) of Endo and Mizu no Hesaki(2001) of Genyu, this paper sheds light on the symbolic meaning of "water", which I believe could contribute creatively to the theological debate on the religious pluralism.

이 연구는 애니메이션 Paprika에서 나타나는 'abjection'에 관한 해석을 시도하고 있다. Julia Kristeva의 'abjection'은 육체적이면서 상징적인 강력한 느낌으로 abject에 대한 주체의 반응이며 저항이다. 주체는 항상 분리를 갈망하면서도 분리되기 어려운 경계에서 갈등을 나타낸다. Julia Kristeva는 Freud와 Lacan의 정신분석학을 페미니즘으로 재해석하여 주체의 형성과정과 여기서 나타나는 정신분석학적 견해를 밝히고 있다. 이러한 견해는 프로이드와 라캉이 주장한 상징계로의 진입에 대한 견해를 부성중심에서 모성 중심으로 새로운 해석을 시도한 것이다. 이는 어머니의 몸은 상징계(the symbolic)에서 제외되어 전-오이디푸스적 영역에만 한정된 몸이 아니라, 상징계의 경계를 가로지르며 상징질서를 위협하는 힘으로서의 'abjection'이라는 것이다. 따라서 Julia Kristeva 이론에 근거한 'abjection'이 애니메이션을 통해 어떻게 나타나는지를 심층적으로 접근하고자 한다. 등장인물이 가지고 있는 욕망과 무의식의 세계에서 나타난 'abjection'은 등장인물들의 주체 형성과정에 어떤 영향을 미치고 있는 가를 파악하고 그 의미를 분석할 것이다.
